What is Tinubu Hiding from Nigerians, Covering from the Global Community?

What is Tinubu Hiding from Nigerians, Covering from the Global Community?

By Citizen Bolaji O. Akinyemi

A Presidency of Paradox

When Bola Ahmed Tinubu rode into power under the slogan of Renewed Hope, Nigerians expected a restoration of governance at home and credibility abroad. But two years down the line, what do we see? A President constantly on the move—shuttling between world capitals—while the very springboards of Nigeria’s diplomacy, its embassies and high commissions, remain headless and hollow.

This paradox begs the question: what is Tinubu hiding from Nigerians, and what is he trying to cover from the global community?

The Intellectual Spark: Dr. Ola Olateju’s Intervention

This question is not raised in a vacuum. It emerges from the detailed and courageous analysis of Dr. Ola Olateju in Political Panorama, Issue No. 17 (June 2, 2025), titled “Nigeria Without Ambassadors: A Silent Crisis in Tinubu’s Foreign Policy Vision.”

Olateju, a seasoned political scientist with a PhD from Swansea University and an impressive record of scholarship and civic engagement, laid bare the subsisting emptiness of our foreign embassies. His piece, meticulously researched, stripped away the excuses of “financial constraints” and “security vetting delays,” showing instead how Nigeria’s prolonged absence from global representation is a self-inflicted wound.

It is his intellectual labour that provides the canvas upon which I now paint this sharper, more conscience-pricking interrogation: if our embassies are empty, while our President is busy globe-trotting, then should we not ask—what exactly is being hidden, and from whom?

The Empty Embassies: Silence as Strategy

Since September 2023, Nigeria has had no substantive ambassadors in most of its foreign missions. As Olateju’s essay demonstrates, the cost is more than administrative; it is strategic self-sabotage.

Ambassadors are the eyes, ears, and voices of the state abroad. Their absence reduces Nigeria’s foreign presence to shadows. It silences our voice in multilateral forums, weakens our hand in negotiations, and abandons our citizens abroad.

This silence is not oversight; it is strategy. And therein lies the hidden truth: a deliberate personalization of diplomacy.

Personalization of Statecraft

Tinubu’s foreign travels, devoid of ambassadorial structures, centralize negotiations in his person. Trade deals, bilateral talks, and multilateral commitments—normally institutionalized through embassies—are reduced to presidential handshakes and fleeting announcements.

What happens when the President returns to Abuja? Who follows up in those capitals? Who drafts the cables, negotiates the details, and locks in Nigeria’s interest?

By refusing to appoint ambassadors, Tinubu ensures that accountability rests nowhere but his office. This creates room for cronies to monopolize opportunities that should be national in character. As Olateju rightly observed, diplomacy without diplomats is nothing but theatre—and costly theatre at that.

The Cost of a Silent Nigeria

1. Strategic Marginalization:

Nigeria, once the conscience of Africa, is absent in key multilateral spaces. Who represents us on ECOWAS’ crisis over the Sahel? Who lobbies for our developmental interests in Geneva? Silence has become our policy.

2. Diaspora Abandonment:

With 15 million Nigerians abroad contributing over $20 billion annually in remittances, embassies should be their shield. Instead, citizens are stranded in detention cells, without an ambassador to escalate their cases.

3. Economic Self-Sabotage:

Investment thrives on credibility. Ambassadors open doors, lobby investors, and defend national interest. Nigeria’s absence has meant lost opportunities while smaller African states like Rwanda and Ghana punch above their weight.

4. Institutional Demoralization:

Dozens of career diplomats languish in Abuja, waiting for deployment. The President’s indecision is their exile. What message does this send about merit, professionalism, and service?

What is Being Hidden?

The refusal to appoint ambassadors hides three things:

Weak Institutions: Nigeria’s institutions are so hollowed that governance depends on personal performance. Tinubu cannot trust the system, so he centralizes it in himself.

Crony Advantage: By bypassing ambassadors, he shields sensitive trade and diplomatic dealings from institutional scrutiny, allowing cronies to corner opportunities.

Diplomatic Paralysis: The absence covers the fact that Nigeria has no coherent foreign policy doctrine under this government—only episodic travels and empty rhetoric.

Covering from the Global Community

Every handshake abroad is a performance, a mask to cover the dysfunction at home. But global actors know. They see the absence of Nigerian envoys. They note the void in negotiations. They sense the weakness.

And the danger is this: in diplomacy, vacuums do not remain empty. Other powers step in. Nigeria’s silence opens the door for France, China, and even smaller African states to dictate the terms of continental politics.

The Moral Reckoning

Nigeria once led the anti-apartheid struggle. We brokered peace in Liberia and Sierra Leone. Our diplomats were legends of courage and clarity. Today, our embassies are ghost houses.

“Ilu ki i wa lai ni olori” — no town exists without a leader. Yet Nigeria’s missions exist without ambassadors. Our nation wanders without a diplomatic head.

Olateju’s intervention is timely. It is a scholarly alarm bell. But beyond scholarship lies the moral reckoning: will Nigeria continue to drift leaderless in global politics while our President performs at summits?

Call to Action: Let Nigeria Speak Again

Tinubu must:

1. Immediately nominate ambassadors for Senate confirmation.

2. Appoint on merit, not patronage.

3. Rebuild a coherent foreign policy doctrine.

4. Restore embassies as the springboard of diplomacy, not presidential theatrics.

Conclusion: The Question that Haunts Us

Dr. Ola Olateju has done the intellectual heavy lifting, exposing the silent crisis in Tinubu’s foreign policy vision. My task has been to translate that intellectual diagnosis into a political and moral charge.

So, what is Tinubu hiding from Nigerians? That our institutions are too weak to function. That diplomacy has been hijacked for personal advantage. That Nigeria, in truth, is absent where it most matters.

And what is he covering from the global community? That Africa’s so-called giant has lost its roar.

But history has ears, and silence is never permanent. Nigeria will speak again—if not through this government, then through the people’s eventual awakening.

Katsina Massacre: Ribadu Must Wake Up, Tinubu Must Step Up or Step Down Says Labour Party

Katsina Massacre: Ribadu Must Wake Up, Tinubu Must Step Up or Step Down Says Labour Party

Nuhu Ribadu should revise his Kuru training manuals

Prince Tony

Labour Party, a major opposition political party in Nigeria has condensed the cruel massacre of the innocent citizens in a mosque in Kastina State.

The Party  in a statement signed by its national publicity secretary Prince Tony Akeni expressed deepest condolences to the families of casualties and survivors of the Katsina mosque massacre, and subsequent mass abduction of innocent citizens by terrorist bandits.

The attack took place last Tuesday August 19 in the Unguwar Mantau village of Malumfashi local government area of the state.

"We also condole with the Acting Governor of Katsina state, Alh. Faruk Lawal Jobe, and other government functionaries of conscience who must be sorely disconcerted by yet another chapter of wanton killings involving 30 innocent Muslims who were shot dead in their mosque during morning prayers, and over twenty others in adjoining homes to the mosque who were locked inside their houses and burnt to death. In addition to this had been the overwhelming urgency of rescuing alive 76 other citizens - men, women and children - who were abducted from the environ and herded away into hell by the terrorists after the dastardly mosque killings. We, as a party, were waiting for progress on the rescue of these citizens before putting out our statement. Happily, we have just confirmed today Thursday August 28 that the mass of abducted Katsina villagers have been rescued."

"A window to the hell-on-earth insecurity nightmares the citizens of parts of Katsina, Middle Belt and similar Northern states are facing in their localities is provided by Mr. Usman Usman, the councillor representing Almu ward of Malumfashi local government council, as follows: "The bandits have decreed that the farmers of these communities will only be allowed to enter their farms between the hours of 8am and 1pm, after which they must vacate the farms or be abducted or killed." Another resident corroborated that despite each farming household previously paying a #10,000 protection fee to the bandits, they still strike at will on regular basis, cart away unchallenged their livestock and in one recent case took five residents with them into their forest lairs; a nightmare that has turned the area and its adjoining districts to a ghost land as people flee in search of peaceful livelihood elsewhere."

"As a political party passionately committed in ideology, principles and empathy to an egalitarian redemption of our country and remaking her into a nation that works for all, the protection of lives and properties, the pursuit of happiness, freedom of worship and livelihood without breach is non-negotiable, in contrast to the pandemic state of insecurity in our country as demonstrated by the traumatizing broad-day horror visited on our Unguwar Mantau people."

According to the statement, since the unfortunate incident last week, Senator Nenadi Usman led Labour Party has been monitoring the aftermath of the coordinated horror through the Katsina state.

"Sadly, while we were still holding our breaths for a comprehensive report before making this official statement, we were apprised further by our party's local humanitarian sentry in Katsina state that less than 48hrs after the chilling assault on the Unguwar mosque, more than a dozen other Katsina communities were seized by freely ranging platoons of bandits and a pay-or-perish levy of #15million naira imposed on hapless Nigerian citizens in 16 communities in that part of our country. This information has since been corroborated to be true by local residents, including a serving councillor of Almu ward, one of the bandits overrun communities. "

"Aggregating these distressing data and gross shortcomings of Nigeria's security governance by the APC led administration, our hearts bleed and our prayers go out to the immediate family, clerics of the attacked mosque, the ransomed communities' leadership and the good people of Katsina state in general. "

"It is incredibly saddening that the deadly assault on humanity, continued regression to stone age savagery in wide swathes of our country by marauding terrorists and their conscience-dead sponsors in government are, by their own admission, well-known to the APC administrations of both late ex-President Muhammadu Buhari and his tourist successor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Yet no decisive and terminal solution by the APC managers of our country appears anywhere in sight. It is even more saddening when you reflect on several factors that ought to have made the Unguwar mosque attack both avoidable and impossible."

More Security Budgets, More Insecurity...

One would ask: how is that possible except in Nigeria? It is only with the ruling APC administration that such paradox is a regular assault to logic and sensibility of the Nigerian people: the more security budgets rise, the more insecurity, violent crimes and killings rise across the country.

Between 2016 and 2022, Nigeria's APC administration under late Muhammadu Buhari burnt US$9.9billion on tackling insecurity in Nigeria. The national defence budget against insurgency, which was US$2.4billiion in 2020, skyrocketed nearly double to US$4.5billion. In 2025, the administration of his successor, Bola Tinubu, jerked this up to an all-time summit of #4.38trillion or #6.57trilliion. In the equivalent period, Nigeria Police budget rose from #783billion in 2022 to #969.6billion in 2024.

The third most populous state in Nigeria with a projected current population of 10.69million citizens spread across its 34 local government areas, Katsina state has produced two presidents of our country, the best ever and also the worst ever before Nigerians woke up on May 29, 2023 to find Mr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the hallowed seat of their Presidency. These are PDP produced President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua of blessed memory and the first APC President, late Muhammadu Buhari of blistering memory respectively. These are beside countless late and living military generals and political stalwarts, including two-time Speaker of the House of Representatives and two-time Governor of the state, Alh. Aminu Bello Masari.

A cosmo-Nigerian state with a fair spread of virtually every tribe of the country found in it, the Yorubas, surprisingly, are the third most populous tribe in Katsina state behind the Fulani's population of 1.2million citizens, which is itself a distant second position from the Hausas who are about 9.3million citizens. Over these populations, Katsina state is not barren of federal and state government security formations, infrastructures and personnel. Among the many security establishments in the state are the Natsinta Barracks, located on the Katsina-Jibba Road. Constructed in 1973 and commissioned in 1977, it was originally established to accommodate the 82 Battalion which was shut down in Eastern Nigeria after the civil war and relocated to Katsina and is now the home of both Nigeria's 17 Brigade and 35 Battalion, a stone throw from Katsina main city.

The comprehensive representation of security services in the state's condolence delegation to the victims of the Unguwar mosque murders reflects the full presence of government's security apparatuses in the state. These included the state Commissioner of Police, the Commander of the Nigerian Army’s 17 Brigade, the State Director of Department of State Services (DSS) and the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). These were in addition to the state government's components led by the Secretary to the State Government, Alh. Abdullahi Faskari, on behalf of the state governor, Alh. Dikko Radda, who has been on a self-catering medical vacation in another part of the planet while his citizens were being mowed down like flies and survivors abducted like livestock into bandit annexed forests.

With the above plethora of security presence, paraphernalia and personnel existing and drawing huge federal and state budget shares from government, why do the free killing sprees and abductions for ransom such as last Tuesday's mosque massacre in Katsina, Plateau, Benue and other parts of the north still happen, almost frequently and at will, without the soulless perpetrators being brought to book and their menace exterminated?

APC, Government of Funeral Delegations

Between the PDP and APC maladministration of Nigeria, in spite of Nigeria's staggering annual defence budgets, police and state governors' security votes, huge parts of which end in the pockets of corrupt sector actors and turn up in the face of the people as private estates, plazas and plush property investments in and outside Nigeria, reports of Nigerians who die everyday are worse than countries in full-blown war and chilling.

In a recent research titled "Economics of Nigeria’s Kidnap Industry," SB Morgen Intelligence (SBM), a geo-crime research firm, reported that in one year alone between July 2024 and June 2025, Nigerian families paid to kidnappers #2.57billion or $1.66million, involving 4,722 victims in at least 997 incidents in which at least 762 victims and rescue participants were killed.

In the five years between 2006 and 2021, the country's cadaver records show that Nigerians who died from terrorist killings were 50,252 committed in 2,288 terror acts, while those who died from other violent crimes - kidnappings, robbery, rape, police brutality, extra-judicial killings and sundry felonies - were 51,425. The combined figure of 101,677 citizen-to-corpse life extermination amounts to a minimum of 57 Nigerians whose lives were violently cut short every single day in the last five years of PDP's and APC's combined maladministrations.

The above figures do not include hospital casualties from pandemic failure of the nation's notorious healthcare system, motorist accidents, malnutrition, infant mortality, suicides and other causes. It also excludes the death records of the four years between 2022 and 2025.

During a comparative four-year period of fierce, no holds barred full-scale international ballistics war which decimated parts of cities between Russia, a major world power, and Ukraine, Ukraine lost 73,920 soldiers and civilians between 2022 and this August 2025. This is according to the _deathometer_ metrics of renowned war research organizations including Mediazona, the Book of Memory Group and Britain's BBC. This comes to 50 persons killed everyday in war-torn Ukraine in the last four years. Nigeria is not at war yet loses 57 citizens per day, seven corpses more than Ukraine, over a comparative period scale. Who says Nigeria is not at war?

Are you still wondering or senselessly outraged that the Canadian government declared PDP and APC as terrorist organizations instead of political parties?

Nuhu Ribadu should revise his Kuru training manuals

The function of the National Security Adviser of a country as large and continentally significant as Nigeria is not wearing starched agbada flying with presidential delegations from one state ceremony of mass burials to the other to deliver condolence speeches on behalf of Tinubu's APC administration. It is also not receiving date fruits from Saudi Arabia for Nigeria's Muslims fasting to Allah with one hand and with another hand receiving millions of dollars to acquire deadly weapons for terrorists and bandits to slaughter our peaceful Muslim citizens dutifully worshipping God in their mosques while, ironically, there are no insurgency death records in Saudi Arabia or UAE from where their nationals sponsor terrorism and bloodshed in Nigeria.

Amongst others, the functions of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, is to obtain, sieve and collate security intelligence in the action jurisdiction of all security arms of the federal government, advise the President on real-time pre-emptive actions and combat strikes that ensure and perpetuate long-term security of lives and livelihood which engender citizen gratitude, not funeral wailings and IDP camp exodus for displaced citizens. If Ribadu has forgotten these functions, he should revise his Kuru training manuals and, if they are outdated as he has become, he should take a refresher course on 21st century counter-insurgency security protocols, crises prevention, containment and management.

As the cliche goes, the principal function of government is the security of lives and properties, and by extension their livelihoods and shelter. If President Tinubu cannot provide the principal function of securing lives and properties of Nigerians, he should sack Nuhu Ribadu, reconfigure his armed services' rank and file and step up his security governance over our citizens or do Nigeria a patriotic favour by sacking himself too.

Killings of over 100 people in Zamfara: deaths in our country continue unabated — Peter Obi

H. E Peter Obi has said the deaths in our country continue unabated as the Tinubu led APC government failed to secure lives and properties and fulfilling his oat of office he sworn to.

Obi made the remarks following the gruesome murder of over 100 people in Zamfara by the bandits, including military men, asking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to accept the inevitable truth and act decisively as Nigeria is at war and saving of lives must be prioritized over infrastructures.

"The deaths in our country continue unabated, as one reads the heartbreaking stories that have become our daily reality."

"With the brutal killings of over 100 people in Zamfara, including our revered military men, Mr. President, it is time to accept the inevitable truth and act decisively."

"Nigeria is at war. We can no longer afford the dangerous denial. The number of lives lost in Nigeria now mirrors countries at war, and the death in our own country even happens more often than in countries at war."

"We cannot continue like this. It is time to prioritise the security of lives over infrastructure projects. Governance must now become about saving lives, not cutting ribbons and headlining ceremonies on front pages."

"Every child buried, every soldier slain, every Nigerian abducted, is a loud cry that leadership must hear. The true measure of leadership is not in the number of roads built or bridges commissioned, but in how many lives are preserved, how many families sleep in peace, and how many communities thrive without fear of bandits."

"This is no longer about politics, it is about the survival of Nigerians. The soul of our nation is bleeding, and only true leadership can save our dear country."

GENOCIDE IS NOT COMMUNAL CONFLICT: PRESIDENT TINUBU’S RESPONSE TO BENUE KILLINGS FALLS DANGEROUSLY SHORT

GENOCIDE IS NOT COMMUNAL CONFLICT: PRESIDENT TINUBU’S RESPONSE TO BENUE KILLINGS FALLS DANGEROUSLY SHORT

Issued by: Apostle (Dr.) Bolaji O. Akinyemi

Convener, The Apostolic Round Table

The Apostolic Round Table (ART) expresses deep dismay and utter disappointment at the recent statement released by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu via his official X handle, @OfficialABAT, regarding the continued and escalating massacres in Benue State.

While we acknowledge the President’s eventual public attention to what he described as "senseless bloodletting," we reject in the strongest terms the false framing of the crisis as a communal conflict. What is happening in Benue is not a conflict between communities — it is genocide, perpetrated by well-armed terrorists against indigenous peoples, with the complicity of silence and inaction at the highest levels of power.

The President's directive to security agencies to “arrest perpetrators on all sides” is an unfortunate mischaracterization that equates invaders with victims, terrorists with communities defending themselves, and criminals with casualties. Such ambiguity is not only irresponsible but also emboldens those who thrive on impunity and bloodshed.

The continued reference to “dialogue and reconciliation” is tone-deaf and ill-timed. You cannot negotiate with killers while they are still holding the machetes. You cannot ask people to reconcile with those who have turned their homes into graveyards.

Mr. President, as Commander-in-Chief, your duty is not to mediate between life and death. It is to defend life. Your response has not only fallen short of your mandate; it reeks of either deep ignorance of the “underlying issues” or a troubling political mischief that sides with neutrality in the face of evil.

We therefore make the following demands:

1. Immediate military intervention in all affected Benue communities with clear rules of engagement to protect civilians.

2. Public identification and prosecution of known perpetrators and their sponsors.

3. A national security address from the President with a detailed and time-bound roadmap to end the genocidal attacks across Nigeria’s Middle Belt.

4. A halt to further gaslighting and false equivalence in government statements concerning acts of terror.

Benue does not need sympathy. Benue does not need another committee. Benue needs protection — now.

Should this government continue to treat mass murder with press releases instead of action, the Apostolic Round Table will mobilize a nationwide prophetic and civic movement to demand accountability. We will not fold our arms while our people are buried in silence.

History will judge every leader not by the speeches they gave, but by the blood they refused to let spill. Mr. President, it is time to act like the Commander-in-Chief you were elected to be.

Signed,

Apostle (Dr.) Bolaji O. Akinyemi

RENEWED HOPELESSNESS: Federal Ministry of Agriculture made a U-turn, suspending its planned prayer & fasting sessions aimed at seeking divine intervention to end hunger in Nigeria

RENEWED HOPELESSNESS: Federal Ministry of Agriculture made a U-turn, suspending its planned prayer & fasting sessions aimed at seeking divine intervention to end hunger in Nigeria

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has made a U-turn by suspending its planned prayer and fasting sessions aimed at seeking divine intervention to end hunger in the country.

This comes just days after a leaked internal circular, dated June 11, 2025, directed all staff—including directors, deputy directors, assistant directors, and value chain desk officers—to gather for weekly spiritual sessions at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.

Signed by the Director of Human Resource Management, Mrs. Adedayo Modupe O., the circular urged staff to fast and participate in a prayer initiative tagged “Divine Intervention for Protection and National Development,” slated for June 16, 23, and 30.

However, in a follow-up memo, the same director announced a postponement of the exercise “until further notice,” without providing any reasons.

Tinubu led APC government policies are all renewed pain for the majority of the citizens . The rouges government has no single solution to any of the challenges facing the country in if the sectors.

Having no solution to hunger in the land , they resulted to prayers and fasting for divine intervention. The Tinubu led APC failures only imposed themselves on the good people of the country. No tangible government directives in terms of policy to address hunger in the country..

This is the government that removed subsidies, increase VAT , devalued Naira and reduced the purchasing power of the citizens, yet cant massively invest in Agriculture but thought prayer is the key to food security..

#JUNE12: Tinubu Led APC Government Betrayed Democracy, Heroes Died in Vain — Obi-dient Movement

#JUNE12: Tinubu Led APC Government Betrayed Democracy, Heroes Died in Vain — Obi-dient Movement

To all Nigerians, civil society organizations, and stakeholders in democracy,

Chief MKO Abiola
Casting his vote in
1993

The Bola Ahmed Tinubu led APC federal government of Nigeria has without doubt betrayed democracy in all ramifications.

His crookery emergency and leadership right from the word go damaged more the principles and any known democratic tenents. The emergency of APC leadership since 2015 has been a course both on Nigerians and democracy as a  system of governance.

Nigeria as it's today, the poverty capital of the whole wide world, citizens do no longer care even if military should take over as the current Tinubu led APC government foisted hardship on the majority, untamed inflation, insecurities, lost of values of our national currencies. Maximum suffering for greater numbers of people. It is indeed a government of renewed hopelessness.

Misplacement of priority in term of diversion of subsidies and other national resources for the benefits of the very few minority living in affluence as majority are wallowing in abject poverty. The legislators only representing themselves and not the Nigerians that elected them. Rubber stamps of the executive.

Democracy thrive on party system and party politics, Tinubu, a NADECO leader has ensure the crippling of major opposition parties in the country. Truly the heroes of struggles died in Vain unless Nigerians rise and save this country from Tinubu led rouges as future of any credible, free fair elections seems doom under Him.

Therefore, we, Obi-dient Group - Oyo State note with deep concern the persistent challenges to free, fair and credible elections in Nigeria. The countinous June 12 anniversary celebrations will not be meaningful, if what our real heroes of democracy fought for are what we have been experiencing under APC evil leadership.

The right to vote and have one's vote counted is fundamental to democracy. APC undermine this since it's emergence in 2015 with  vrious forms of electoral malpractices, voter suppression, and lack of transparency in the conduct of the elections and final results coalition.

Going forward to 2027, we call on all stakeholders to:

1. *Ensure transparent, free , fair and credible electoral processes. Only an electoral reform that mandatorily ensure the use of electronics voting, recording and transmitting results in real time can guarantee that elections are free from manipulation and reflect the genuine will of the people.

2. *Strengthen electoral institutions*: Support the independency and effectiveness of electoral bodies. The appointment of the officers of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must be taken away from the Mr president. The legislatures through a special duty committee or commission should be in charge of screening of applicants and recommending such to the national assembly.

3. *Promote voter education and participation*: Educate citizens on their voting rights and encourage participation in electoral processes.

4. *Hold leaders accountable*: Demand that elected officials prioritize the interests of their constituents and uphold democratic principles.

Nigerians must be ready to work together in the face of the oppressive civilian regime if Tinubu led APC to build a more inclusive and democratic Nigeria where every vote counts and the voices of the masses are heard. Where the government will be established and sustained on the basic principles of popular participation, popular support, good governance and respect for rule of law.

Tinubu's Irrational Borrowing Proposal: Our Nation Has Been Betrayed Again

Tinubu's Irrational Borrowing Proposal: Our Nation Has Been Betrayed Again

Tinubu

Let history record this moment clearly: the president Bola Tinubu’s administration is attempting to dig a deeper financial grave for Nigeria while falsely claiming to be filling it up. This is a sin—not just against the economy, but against the generations of Nigerians yet unborn who will inherit this betrayal.

In what can only be described as an alarming affront to logic, accountability, and national dignity, the recent proposal by the Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to borrow a staggering $21.5 billion exposes a deep and worsening contradiction at the heart of Nigeria’s fiscal and moral crisis. At a time when the government loudly trumpets the repayment of past debts—including loans from the International Monetary Fund (IMF)—one must ask: What was the hurry in paying off those loans if the intention was to plunge the nation into deeper debt almost immediately?

Traditionally, the paying off of debts signals a nation’s movement towards fiscal independence. It marks a resolve to rely on internal discipline, innovation, and productivity rather than perpetual dependence on foreign creditors. But in this administration’s case, debt repayment appears not to be a strategy for liberation, but a cynical reset for a fresh cycle of reckless borrowing. This contradiction renders the supposed triumph of debt repayment meaningless and insincere.

What is even more bewildering is the deliberate obfuscation of truth through deceitful propaganda. While the Tinubu-led government seeks parliamentary approval for this colossal loan, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recently announced that it has recovered an astronomical $967.5 billion (nearly $1 trillion). Meanwhile, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) declared the recovery of ₦277 billion in stolen or misappropriated funds. These are not insignificant figures—they represent enough capital to not only cover the country’s current borrowing ambitions but to inject a measure of revival into key national sectors.

Why, then, are we still being asked to accept the burden of more loans?

This is not just about poor fiscal management—it is deliberate deception, institutionalized hypocrisy, and unrepentant financial sinfulness. If these recoveries are genuine and available for use, borrowing should not be an option. If they are fictitious, then we are dealing with a propaganda machinery designed to pacify a suffering populace while silently mortgaging their future.

Postponing a Funeral Doesn’t Raise the Dead: The Jonathan Lesson and Tinubu’s Blind March

Postponing a Funeral Doesn’t Raise the Dead: The Jonathan Lesson and Tinubu’s Blind March

No president in Nigeria's history received more public endorsements for a second term than Goodluck Jonathan. Politicians across party lines, governors, senators, traditional rulers, religious leaders, billionaire businessmen, and over 10,000 well-funded support groups flooded the airwaves daily, confidently predicting his victory—some even before noon on election day.

For Jonathan's administration, money was never a constraint. Funds were recklessly thrown at anyone who showed the slightest support—so much so that merely greeting “Mama Peace” with a “Good morning” could attract largesse.

A month to the February 2015 elections, the Jonathan government secretly commissioned an international poll expert to predict the election outcome. The result? A shocker. The poll predicted Jonathan would lose if the election were held as scheduled. Alarmed, the president summoned the National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki, and the head of the DSS. Their internal intelligence confirmed the grim forecast: the North was mobilized and ready to vote Jonathan out.

In a state of panic, and despite nationwide outrage, the Jonathan administration postponed the elections by six weeks. The official reason was to address insecurity in the North-East, a region long neglected under his watch. Ironically, the same Jonathan government that allowed Boko Haram to displace thousands—hoping the chaos would suppress Northern voter turnout and give him an advantage in the South and North Central—was now racing to deploy troops and reclaim territory, not out of concern for the people, but to rescue a failing re-election bid.

Why the sudden urgency? The NSA and DSS warned that Northerners were determined to defy the odds and cast their votes. INEC Chairman Attahiru Jega also resisted pressure to cancel elections in the troubled North, insisting that adequate arrangements were in place, even for displaced persons.

Jonathan was boxed in. He delayed the polls, deployed military resources, and hoped that his last-minute efforts would appease Northern voters. But it was too little, too late. The North saw through the charade and rejected him.

In desperation, Dasuki was dispatched to London to brief the international community on the "justification" for the postponement. On his return, the doors of the Central Bank were flung open to him. Billions in naira and dollars were siphoned—allegedly to buy arms, but in reality, used to bankroll Jonathan’s re-election campaign. The infamous $2.1 billion arms procurement fund became a political war chest, enriching cronies and drowning support groups in cash.

Even former Sokoto State Governor Attahiru Bafarawa reportedly received ₦4.6 billion (over ₦40 billion in today’s value) to hire local and international marabouts, witch doctors, and prayer warriors for Jonathan’s victory.

But did all of this save him?

No. Nigerians spoke loudly on election day and threw Jonathan out of power. The APC itself was stunned by the scale of its victory, and the PDP remains in denial to this day.

Fast forward to 2025, President Tinubu, buoyed by arrogance and flattered by sycophants who crown him a "master strategist," is blindly walking the same path that ended Jonathan’s reign. But history teaches hard lessons.

No leader who ignores or torments the Nigerian people walks away unscathed. Nigerians may appear passive, docile, or defeated, but when the time comes, they strike back—with the ballot or by force of will.

Make no mistake: 2027 is not about APC versus opposition parties. It is a battle between the suffering masses and the architects of their torment. The level of hardship under Tinubu’s APC is unprecedented—far exceeding anything experienced under Jonathan. Yet, Tinubu and his cheerleaders carry on, deluded and indifferent.

The warning signs are clear. Obasanjo once responded to a journalist asking if the 2015 election postponement would help Jonathan win:

“Postponing the funeral doesn’t wake up the dead. You’re only delaying the burial.”

That analogy is more relevant today than ever. Tinubu’s administration is already politically “dead” in the hearts of Nigerians. The charade of endorsements, the wasteful “validation” events, and the careless squandering of public funds won’t change the outcome. Nigerians are watching, and they are waiting.

Nigeria is too vast, too diverse, and too proud to be subdued by any one man or cabal. Those who attempt it always learn the hard way.

Borrowing to loot: Tinubu Seeks Senate's authorization to borrow 21.5 billion dollars, EUR 2.1 billion and 15 billion yen

Borrowing to loot: Tinubu Seeks Senate's authorization to borrow 21.5 billion dollars, EUR 2.1 billion and 15 billion yen

Anti—masses President of Nigeria Bola Ahmed Tinubu has submitted a request to the Senate for authorization to borrow 21.5 billion dollars, EUR 2.1 billion and 15 billion yen. It also seeks a grant of 65 million euros.

Tinubu in a letter to the national assembly said: “In the light of the removal of the fuel subsidy and its impact on the national economy, approval is called for the borrowing plan, which amounts to USD 21,543,647,912, and EUR 2,193,856,324.54. And in Japanese Yen, 15 billion Yen and grant of 65 million, respectively.

“This initiative aims to generate employment, promote skill acquisition, foster entrepreneurship, reduce poverty, and enhance food security, as well as to improve the livelihoods of Nigerian. Majority of these projects and programs will be implemented across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

“In light of the significant infrastructure deficit in the country and the power of financial resources needed to address this gap amid declining domestic demand, it has become essential to pursue prudent economic borrowing to close the financial shortfall.

“These funds will primarily be directed towards critical infrastructural projects, including railways, healthcare among others. Given the market nature of these needs and the importance of stabilizing the economy, it is crucial to seek the consideration and approval of the House of Representatives for the 2025-2026 External Borrowing Plan.

“This will enable the government to fulfill its obligations to the Nigerian people through timely disbursement and effective project implementation.”

Endless borrowing since 2015 till date have only compounded the woes of the country. If thorough investigation should be carried out, APC led government will be second to non in leadership corruption index since independence.

APC led government in Nigeria since 2015 till date has been a course through anti- people policies and programs that has further ruined the domestic economy as the country now known as the global capital of poverty in the faces of state enabled criminality of Bandits, Fulani herdsmen menace, kidnappers and ISWAP terrorists.

The hope of a free , fair and credible future elections is zero too as all opposition parties have been infiltrated and put in turbulence by the Tinubu led Federal government.

NIGERIA: Contradictions in Leadership Rhetoric: A Closer Look at President Tinubu's Statement on Party Politics

NIGERIA: Contradictions in Leadership Rhetoric: A Closer Look at President Tinubu's Statement on Party Politics

photo of Bola Ahmef Tinubu
 by Premium times

In a recent quote attributed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a curious contradiction appears in his stance on Nigeria’s democratic system. The statement reads:

> "A one-party system is not suitable for democracy. We are one party ruling and carrying on with the aspirations of Nigerians. You don't expect people to remain in a sinking ship without a life jacket. I am happy with what we have accomplished and expecting more people to come; that's the game."

At first glance, the opening line champions the principles of plural democracy, declaring that “a one-party system is not suitable for democracy.” This aligns with the ideals of a healthy democratic society—one in which power is contested and citizens have multiple political options.

However, the following lines present a different narrative. The declaration, "We are one party ruling and carrying on with the aspirations of Nigerians," subtly glorifies a dominant-party system, where a single party maintains control, even if other parties technically exist. This reality undermines the spirit of competitive democracy, suggesting a shift toward political hegemony rather than pluralism.

The metaphor of the “sinking ship” and the “life jacket” further complicates the message. It implies that other parties are failing, and joining the ruling party is the only logical means of political survival. This notion, while politically strategic, reveals a worrisome tendency: the erosion of opposition and the consolidation of power in a single political group. It positions the ruling party not as one of many choices, but as the only viable vessel in Nigeria's political ocean.

The final remark—“expecting more people to come; that's the game”—confirms this intention. It depicts politics as a game of numbers rather than ideology, where the goal is not robust democratic engagement but entrenchment of power.

What This Means for Nigeria’s Democracy

The contradictions in this statement are not merely rhetorical; they reflect a deeper tension between democratic theory and political practice. While President Tinubu appears to verbally support multi-party democracy, the actions and implications suggest a movement toward single-party dominance—a condition that has historically stifled dissent, weakened institutions, and narrowed civic space.

If Nigeria is to truly uphold democratic values, it must preserve the strength of its opposition parties, ensure fair electoral processes, and maintain a level playing field. Any drift toward one-party rule—either in speech or practice—should be critically examined and challenged by citizens, civil society, and the media.

In democracy, diversity is not a weakness—it is the source of strength. Leaders must embody this principle not just in word, but in deed.

They've literally gone as far as embedding their undercover agents into organisations they want to infiltrate and getting them to even marry members of these organisations and raise kids with them. Compared to that level of subversive effort, how hard is it to fund one yellow beret-wearing numpty in West Africa to jump around and destroy the actual revolutionary movement in Nigeria by centring himself as the "revolution," fixing dates and venues for protests (signposting them for the puppet government), and gathering intelligence for them about people who can actually change anything?

Yele Sowore is the biggest fucking plant in West Africa, and I don't understand how this could be more obvious. The dude is literally funded by U.S. Foreign Intelligence. It's in your face! Hundeyin added.

NIGERIA'S POLITICS: Tinubu's Silent and Strategic Manoeuvering For 2027

TINUBU vs FUBARA LONDON SECRETS, PDP POLITICAL DEFECTIONS & BETRAYAL: HOW TINUBU’S SILENT EARTHQUAKE IN RIVERS STATE IS REDRAWING NIGERIA’S 2027 MAP

BEHIND THE SMOKE OF RIVERS, A POLITICAL FIRE IS BURNING

While Nigerians were distracted by surface noise, the real political tremor was taking place behind closed doors—in hotel suites in London, in secret calls to Supreme Court chambers, and in the quietly defecting hearts of PDP governors.

Rivers State is now the pilot scheme of Tinubu’s 2027 game plan, and the betrayal of Wike and El-Rufai is no coincidence—it’s a blueprint.

“This is Clement’s prophetic Intelligence Seal Broken. As it was written, so it is decoded — Nigeria’s destiny is being rewritten in shadows.”

BREAKING INTEL SNAPSHOT:

_✓ President Bola Tinubu reportedly held a closed-door meeting with suspended Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, in London during his working visit.

The meeting appears to have placed pressure on Fubara, who may now soften his stance and consider key concessions—sparking speculation of an impending political compromise aimed at de-escalating the ongoing crisis in Rivers State.

_✓ Delta State Governor Oborevwori and his predecessor Ifeanyi Okowa have officially defected from the PDP to the APC, signaling a major political shift in the South-South region._

_✓ Dele Momodu cautions political leaders against the ongoing wave of defections, warning that Nigeria risks sliding into a dictatorship if democratic opposition is silenced or dismantled._

LONDON DEAL: FUBARA'S TRANSFORMATION FROM PAWN TO PRESIDENTIAL PROJECT

Governor Fubara’s London rendezvous with President Tinubu wasn’t a handshake—it was a baptism of fire and reprogramming of purpose. He entered that room a political orphan, bruised from legislative ambushes and executive sabotage. But he walked out reborn—not as Wike’s rebel—but as Tinubu’s prototype.

London wasn’t a peace talk. It was a software installation. Tinubu didn’t fly Fubara out for tea and sympathy. He flew him out for firmware updates—to rewrite the South-South operating system and install a federalist version of Lagos-style command governance in the oil heartland.

“When the monkey refuses to dance for the owner, the drummer must find a new performer.”

Wike was the old performer. Tinubu is auditioning a new dance.

Let’s be clear: Tinubu deliberately excluded Wike from the London table—not because he forgot, but because he had outgrown his usefulness.

The “Lion of Port Harcourt” was no longer roaring—he was growling at the wrong end of the food chain.

Tinubu simply cut out the noise and adopted the underdog.

Fubara is now the test-run for Nigeria’s newest political software update:

“Subnational Loyalty 3.0.” No more godfathers. No more regional emperors. Just governors with direct presidential plug-ins, coded to run Abuja’s agenda from local desktops.

 Strategic Fallout:

Soft Capture:

Tinubu is building an APC-compliant Rivers without flying party flags or raising electoral dust. It's not a campaign—it’s a quiet colonization.

Silent Purge:

Over time, Tinubu will replace PDP-encoded loyalists with federal-aligned technocrats—clean, sharp, loyal to Abuja’s firmware. They may still wave PDP banners, but their hearts will beat APC frequencies.

“A snake that sheds its skin is not dead—it’s upgrading.”

And that’s what Fubara has become: an upgraded vessel for a federal command.

 Clement Final Inside decode:

“What do you call a man who defeats his master, but never lifts a sword?”

Answer : _A governor with a presidential SIM card.

Fubara has become the political equivalent of an electric car—looks quiet, moves silently, but packed with shockwave voltage. He now runs not on Wike’s diesel, but on Tinubu’s invisible battery.

In a few months, Rivers will wear PDP clothes, but speak APC grammar. Contracts, budgets, appointments—coded in the dialect of the Villa.

What happened in London was not alignment—it was conversion.

“The hunter who sees two elephants fighting does not shoot until he knows which one the king sent.”

Fubara now wears the king’s signal.

BETRAYAL AS A POLITICAL TOOL: TINUBU DUMPS WIKE LIKE EL-RUFAI

This is not politics. This is chess with human souls.

Wike is only the latest victim of a very ancient presidential doctrine—one that begins with— "use," passes through "praise," and ends in "purge."

The moment you stop being useful, the music stops. Ask El-Rufai, the original warning sign.

"When the lion builds his palace, he lets the hyenas clear the bush—but he never invites them to the throne room."

Wike, like El-Rufai, was instrumental in cracking 2023’s complex electoral code. But once the door was open, they were both too loud, too proud, and too strategic for comfort. Tinubu’s model is not built for co-kings—it runs on “solitary supremacy.”

The louder you are near Tinubu, the closer you are to the exit. That’s not advice—it’s prophecy.

 Strategic Analysis:

Tinubu's Silent Doctrine:

Loyalty must be silent, strategic, and sacrificial. Once it becomes vocal, visionary, or viral, it gets downgraded.

Wike and El-Rufai forgot the rule:

“Power doesn’t like witnesses. It prefers blind loyalty or permanent silence.”

Pre-2027 Purge Protocol:

Tinubu is activating his pre-election firewall. Independent thinkers are threats, not allies. If you're dreaming beyond your assigned lane, you will be neutralized with or without noise.

Wike’s “ control freak tendencies” made him an open tab in Tinubu’s security system.

El-Rufai’s intellectual swagger was a bug in the matrix. Both had to go.

 Clement decode:

Wike thought Abuja politics was like Port Harcourt wrestling—just shout louder and win.

But Tinubu’s Abuja is a soundproof chamber—you shout, but no one hears you. You protest, but your SIM card is already blocked.

“He who builds his relevance on volume will lose it in silence.”

Clement insider decode of the Day:

“What do you call a man who opens the gate for a king, then is locked outside the palace?”

Answer: An ex-kingmaker who didn't read the fine print.

 Implication:

Wike has now joined the El-Rufai Club of Decommissioned Allies—former firebrands turned political orphans.

And there are more names in Tinubu’s political execution queue. Loyalty is not a shield. It’s a leash.

If you tug too hard, you disappear.

“In the kingdom of Tinubu, survival is not about merit—it’s about muteness.”

DEFECTING GOVERNORS: THE DOMINOES FALL WHILE PDP WATCHES.

Okowa and Sheriff are no longer whispering—they’ve crossed the Rubicon.

This isn’t rumor. This is realignment warfare. And like all power shifts in Nigeria, it wears agbada in the daytime but holds a dagger at night. What we are witnessing is not politics— *it is controlled bleeding of the opposition. One by one. Calmly. Efficiently. Like a butcher slicing meat for soup.

“When the elephant begins to dance, the grass must prepare to die quietly.”

 Strategic Analysis:

*Presidency’s Long Game:*

Tinubu doesn’t need to win elections in opposition strongholds. He only needs to neutralize resistance by absorption, not aggression. Why fight PDP in oil states when you can slowly buy out their captains?

Offer them:

 ✓ Safety from EFCC.

✓ Federal cash flow for states._

✓ Political future inside the “next national equation.”

“You don’t destroy the house by fire—you remove the nails one by one.”

The Niger Delta Squeeze:

Okowa was Atiku’s running mate, now flipping to APC silently.

Oborevwori is following. This is a tactical power shift of the oil belt—designed to choke PDP’s funding arteries before 2027.

Tinubu is cutting off the oil but smiling while doing it.

 Clement Sarcasm Mode:

PDP is watching its governors leave like a husband watching his wife pack bags for another man—and still asking if she’s just going to the market.

They’re not defecting.

They’re defecting with their eyes wide open and a resignation letter in their hearts.

“A man who sees thunderclouds and still spreads his clothes outside is not praying—he’s pretending.”

 Implication:

By Q3 2025, expect the following:

Bayelsa,  and even Akwa Ibom to lean closer to federal structure.

PDP will remain a name without territory, a lion without teeth—just old symbols and empty stadiums.

Tinubu will own the oil map, not through ballots—but through defection diplomacy.

“When your generals dine in the enemy’s camp, your fortress is already conquered.”

 Clement insider decode:

“What do you call a party that still calls itself an opposition but has no territory, no treasury, and no team?”

Answer: A memory with a logo._

CONCLUSION: THE GAME IS NO LONGER STATE VS STATE – IT'S SYSTEM VS SYSTEM.

This is no longer about Rivers alone. Tinubu is reprogramming Nigeria’s power logic. Through a mix of betrayal, legal trickery, economic control, and strategic silence, he’s building a nationwide pro-presidency network outside formal APC channels._*

If successful, this model will crack PDP’s structure, weaken Atiku’s 2027 chances, and replace political alliances with personal pacts.

2027: Timi Frank warns Northern, Southern leaders not to fall for Tinubu’s tricks

2027: Timi Frank warns Northern, Southern leaders not to fall for Tinubu’s tricks

A Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank has on Wednesday warned Nigerians not to be fooled by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s tricks to again “grab power and run with it” in 2027.

Frank who made this call in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday, specifically urged Northern and Southern leaders including opposition parties to resist Tinubu’s desperate 2027 presidential bid.

He revealed that while Tinubu is on one hand blackmailing Southerners, especially opposition Governors on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP) and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) by playing the ethnic card to gain support, he is on the other hand threatening to deal with them if they fail to support him by declaring a state of emergency in their States over spurious charges of violence and corruption.

"He has increased the intensity now by blackmailing, intimidating and putting at least five PDP Governors from the South under duress to defect along with their Members in the National Assembly to the APC.

"To Tinubu, the 2027 election is about him versus the North and that is why he is trying desperately to enlist the support of the South through manipulation and subterfuge.

He has forgotten so soon that the North helped him to get to power in 2023,” he said.

According to the Bayelsa-born political activist, 2027 should not be about North or South but who would  fix the myriads of challenges confronting the country, including the incessant killings, kidnappings and banditry as well as the harsh economic conditions foisted on the masses by Tinubu through fuel subsidy removal, increased electricity tariff and high cost of food and other essential services.

He said: “Nigerians are in need of a President who will help Nigeria become better, not 'Northern candidate or Southern candidate' or 'Northern President or Southern President'.

“The country is overcharged already with divisions along ethnic lines. We therefore can't afford to have a President who is setting one region against another for the sake of his own personal ambition.

"For me, Timi Frank, as a Southerner, I don't believe in a tribalistic and divisive President. I believe in a leader that will come and unite rather than divide Nigeria.

“I advise every Northerner still supporting Tinubu to have a rethink. They should know that the North that apparently ‘assisted’ Tinubu to gain power in 2023 is suffering the most today.

"It is a fact that the North has been grossly sidelined in appointments and other infrastructure development programmes by Tinubu who has prioritised his personal and tribal life-interests over everything else.

"This is why the North should wake up. They should know this route Tinubu is going in terms of 2027 politics, is not the best for Nigeria. They should rise and speak with one voice in 2027.

"I want the Northern leaders to know that should Tinubu find his way back to power in 2027, the North will suffer untold neglect as Tinubu and the APC don’t have their genuine interest at heart.

"As we speak, at least five opposition Governors are set to defect to APC not because they like Tinubu but due to intense political pressure, intimidation and blackmail, while those who will remain have been made to sign undertakings to deliver their States to Tinubu, otherwise they will be made to lose their second term elections.

"Tinubu does not believe in the power of the people. Tinubu is working to steal the election results, to grab it (power) and run away with it like he did in 2023.

"If the North can't see the omen of imminent regional stagnation and destruction, they will regret it if they do nothing to stop Tinubu in 2027.

“Tinubu does not believe in democracy and that is why he has succeeded in ensuring that PDP, Labour Party and any other opposition parties are enmeshed in intractable internal crisis in order to deny capable and qualified aspirants platforms to challenge him in 2027.

“His singular aim is to retain power in 2027 by hook or crook. He is doing all he can at the detriment of Nigerians, a complete negation of the oath of office he swore to on assumption of office as President.”

Timi Frank lamented that at the moment, Nigeria is on auto-pilot under Tinubu's watch, yet he (Tinubu) wants to force himself on Nigerians again in 2027.

Timi Frank added: “Nigerians must on their part, prepare to reject Tinubu. It is the only patriotic thing to do as citizens. As citizens, we have a duty to reject a bad, clueless and rudderless leader and do all that is legally necessary to prevent him from returning to power.”

He urged the opposition leaders in the country to ensure that their coalition succeeds in defeating Tinubu in 2027.

"The coalition is in the best interest of Nigeria and Nigerians. I therefore appeal to the leaders of the coalition to put Nigeria and Nigerians first as their decision would help reshape the country and its future going forward,” he said.

Tinubu as yesterday’s rebel and today’s tyrant, By Farooq A. Kperogi

Tinubu as yesterday’s rebel and today’s tyrant, By Farooq A. Kperogi

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s demonstrably unconstitutional suspension of the elected leaders of Rivers State and his illegal imposition of a retired military lickspittle as sole administrator in the exercise of his otherwise constitutional privilege to declare a state of emergency in any part of the country is the latest addition in a long list of instances of his embrace of the very things he once resented and fought against when he was outside the reins of federal power.

For example, he was brutally censorious of Goodluck Jonathan’s withdrawal of fuel subsidies in 2012. He expressed sentiments in writing and in speeches that resonated with the angst of the masses. He even helped finance a nationwide mass protest that so convulsed the country that Jonathan was compelled to back off his plans.

Yet, one of the first acts Tinubu did as a president in May 2023 was to announce an economically and socially disruptive withdrawal of fuel subsidies that has deepened poverty, annihilated the middle class, and ruptured the very fabric of Nigerian society.

Again, when Olusegun Obasanjo unconstitutionally suspended Plateau State’s Governor Joshua Dariye—along with state legislators— in May 2004 and appointed General Chris Ali as the state’s sole administrator, then Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Lagos rightly called the act “illegal.”

“It is unfortunate and illegal,” he said. “This has to be discouraged. It is a bad precedent. What the president of the country has done, I pray it doesn’t stand.”

In fact, when Goodluck Jonathan declared states of emergency in the three northeastern states of Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa without suspending the elected leaders of the states, which I commended in a May 25, 2013, column titled “The Malcolm Xian Logic in Jonathan’s Praiseworthy Boko Haram Offensive,” Tinubu condemned it as unacceptable federal overreach.

“No governor of a state in Nigeria is the chief security officer,” he said. “Putting the blame on the governors, who have been effectively emasculated, for the abysmal performance of the government at the centre which controls all these security agencies, smacks of ignorance and mischief.”

He contended that Jonathan’s action “seeks to abridge or has the potential of totally scuttling the constitutional functions of governors and other elected representatives of the people” and that it would be “counterproductive in the long run.”

Given an opportunity to give materiality to the principles he espoused when he had no access to federal power, he has become indistinguishable from, and in many cases worse than, the objects of his erstwhile censure.

Tinubu now implements the same policies he once condemned and has become the same personality he once reviled. He exemplifies the aphoristic wisdom (often attributed to historian Ariel Durant or her husband Will Durant) that says, “Today’s rebel is tomorrow’s tyrant.” In Tinubu’s case, he was yesterday’s rebel and today’s tyrant.

Why do most people who initially invested symbolic and political capital in fighting against authority or oppression eventually become the very oppressors they once resisted? Why do firebrands and idealists often morph into the very thing they once denounced after assuming power?

The evidence of history shows us that resistance to tyranny can, and often does, end in new tyrannies. Critics of war or corruption frequently adopt those same practices when they find themselves in the circles of power.

So, this is beyond Tinubu as a person, who probably never really had any principles to begin with, whose resistance to past oppressive policies was probably mere calculative opportunism.

But why do previously genuinely adversarial people become the very things they once opposed with such regularity? Observers from psychology, philosophy, and political theory have long studied this phenomenon.

A previous column I wrote (and republished twice) on the psychology of power pointed out that “people under the influence of power are neurologically similar to people who suffer traumatic brain injury” and posited that situational, power-induced brain damage may be responsible for this.

Philosophers have also grappled with the paradox of noble ideals curdling into oppression. Friedrich Nietzsche, for example, famously warned of the moral danger that comes with fighting evil too intensely. “He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster,” Nietzsche wrote, adding, “if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.”

Nietzsche’s metaphor speaks to how the struggle for power or justice can warp people’s souls. Revolutionaries and reformers, in attempting to vanquish a “monster” (e.g. a tyrant or an unjust system), may take on the very methods and mindset of that monster.

His concept of the “will to power” also suggests that the drive to attain power can override other moral constraints, so that once the will to power is unleashed, individuals rationalize actions that serve dominance.

French theorist Michel Foucault provides another lens through which we can make sense of the phenomenon of people taking on the very methods and mindset of the beasts of power they once fought.

He said, “Power is everywhere; not because it embraces everything, but because it comes from everywhere.” By that, he means no one is ever truly outside power relations; even the most vicious critics of the most monstrous regimes operate within a field of power. Once the critics take control, he said, they often reproduce the very power dynamics they once criticized, even if their rhetoric changes.

The line between oppressor and liberator can blur: the roles may switch, but the play remains the same. Foucault’s insight is that systems of power tend to self-perpetuate, regardless of who is at the helm, unless conscious effort is made to dismantle those underlying structures.

In other words, a change in leadership without a change in what Foucault calls the “microphysics of power” is likely to yield similar repressive outcomes. The new boss becomes “same as the old boss,” because the circuitry of power channels them into that role.

That’s why the sadly familiar pattern of “condemning in opposition, then doing in government” is so widespread that it almost seems like a political law of gravity. It’s good to bear this in mind as we read and listen to the pronouncements of current “opposition” politicians who seem like they identify with popular causes and sentiments.

Like Tinubu, today’s opponents of executive overreach may extend their own executive powers once they have the opportunity.

Like Tinubu, they will have a story to tell themselves and the public to justify their U-turn: the situation is different, their actions are for the greater good, their previous stance was based on incomplete information, etc. And indeed, sometimes circumstances do legitimately change.

But when the dust settles, the outcome looks awfully familiar. Pro-democracy activists become a congress of tyrants and justifiers of tyranny; the fierce social critic and human rights activist who once decried abuses now defends them; the liberator who once raged against oppressors now only liberates his stomach. As the Roman philosopher-politician Cicero once wrote, “It is easier to criticize than to do better.”

Fortunately, this cycle is not inevitable. Many thinkers advocate checks and balances, institutional limits, and personal integrity as antidotes, although even those seem to be insufficient.

Nigeria’s National Assembly, as we have seen in the last few years, particularly in the last few days, can neither check nor balance the excesses of the executive. It’s a slavish extension of Aso Rock. The voices of the few honest, conscientious ones among them are drowned out by the cacophony that the rapacious, unprincipled, mercenary self-seekers among them, who constitute the majority, emit. The judiciary is even worse.

It is easy to be disillusioned and to surrender amid this reality. To be frank, I have found myself in that state many times. But power must be continually guarded and checked. Philosopher Hannah Arendt observed that only constant vigilance and a commitment to plurality and law prevent rebels from calcifying into tyrants.

We must all do our part to hold people in power to account, even if we’re not sure we would do better ourselves. At this point, the only check and balance against creeping tyranny is the democratic rebellion of the people.

Tinubu: A Squirrel That Climbed The Tree, Left Nigerians Hopeless

Tinubu: A Squirrel That Climbed The Tree, Left Nigerians Hopeless

 By Buhari Olanrewaju Ahmed

The lawlessness in Nigeria today is not accidental; it has been nurtured by those entrusted with leadership.

Before assuming power, they weep before the masses, rolling on the ground, making empty promises to the oppressed. But once they seize power, they transform into ruthless predators, sacrificing the very people they swore to serve. This vicious cycle has crippled the nation for decades.

The impunity orchestrated by these power-hungry elites is unimaginable.

They exploit the people's trust, manipulate institutions, and prioritise their personal ambitions over national stability. Even when the country teeters on the brink of collapse, their only concern is retaining control at all costs.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's recent declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State is nothing more than a calculated political maneuver.

It is a strategic attempt to wrest control of the state from the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections. By imposing direct federal control, Tinubu and his allies seek to dominate the state's vast resources, leaving the people of Rivers and the entire Niger Delta region at their mercy.

If Tinubu were genuinely concerned about national security, why has he failed to declare a state of emergency in states plagued by relentless violence?

Thousands have been massacred in the North by terrorists, yet no such measure has been taken. This year alone, hundreds of innocent lives have been lost to herdsmen attacks in Ondo, Benue, and Enugu. Yet, Tinubu has not only refused to declare a state of emergency in these areas but has also remained silent, failing even to issue a formal condemnation.

The political crisis in Rivers State is largely fueled by the power-drunk Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike. His obsession with control, coupled with his belief that he wields influence over the president, has exacerbated the situation.

Despite overwhelming evidence pointing to Wike as the architect of the crisis, Tinubu has spared him—perhaps as a reward for his role in the election manipulations that helped secure Tinubu’s presidency.

Declaring a state of emergency in a region where there is no war, conflict, or oppression is an outright abuse of power.

Tinubu, who once touted himself as a champion of democracy, is now rewriting the constitution to impose military-style governance. His actions expose the hypocrisy of his administration, revealing a dangerous shift toward authoritarian rule.

Before Tinubu's ascension to power, I warned Nigerians against voting for him. He is not the leader he claims to be.

Unfortunately, many fell victim to the "Yoruba Ronu" propaganda, a narrative that has only served to erode their dignity and well-being.

With figures like Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas serving as rubber-stamp legislators, Nigeria remains trapped in a cycle of stagnation.

Those who elected incompetent representatives should not expect progress or meaningful change. These self-serving politiciansprioritizse personal enrichment over national development, betraying the trust of the electorate at every turn.

Tinubu and his cohorts are writing a history of infamy, one that future generations will neither forget nor forgive.

One day, their descendants may find themselves cursed for the sins of their forefathers, just as former military ruler Ibrahim Babangida now seeks forgiveness for his past misdeeds—only to be met with rejection.

Nigerian history has been shaped by great leaders like Obafemi Awolowo, M.K.O. Abiola, Gani Fawehinmi, Tafawa Balewa, Ahmadu Bello, and Fela Anikulapo Kuti, whose legacies inspire pride among their descendants. In contrast, Tinubu and his allies are inscribing a legacy of betrayal and oppression.

For those who support impunity, continue to do so at your own peril. History has a way of catching up with even the most powerful. One day, the hunter will become the hunted.

State of Emergency in Rivers State: Do not participate, support any action, decision, or vote that compromises integrity of our democracy, Peter Obi tells LP Legislators

The Labour Party Presidential flag bearer in the 2023 general elections Mr Peter Obi has called on the members of the national assembly who are of the Labour Party not participate in or support any action, decision, or vote that compromises the integrity of our democracy, undermines the interests of the people of Rivers State, or contradicts our core values of fairness, equity, and transparency.

It should be recalled that President Bola Hamed Tinubu yesterday declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, suspended the elected governor of the state Sim Fabura, his deputy and all the members of the state assembly of Rivers State.

The political crises in Rivers State was fueled by the Tinubu led APC presidency.

Meanwhile, despite the declaration of state of emergency in Rivers State, absolute two third majority of the legislative members in both the Senate and house of representatives are still required by the constitution to enable it passed. Obi has therefore asked members of the national who won their seats on the platform of the Labour Party to refrain from voting in favour or support the state of emergency declared by president Bola Tinubu.

Peter Obi via his verified social media handles wrote:

My dear brothers and sisters,

Members of the Labour Party in the National Assembly,

Since your inauguration as Distinguished, and Honorable members of the National Assembly, I have refrained from interfering in your legislative affairs out of respect for your independence and to allow you to focus on alleviating the suffering of the Nigerian people.

However, at this critical juncture — following 26 years of a deteriorating democratic process marked by disregard for educational qualifications for electoral positions, massive rigging, and now the unconstitutional removal of elected officeholders — I find it necessary to address you. These unconstitutional actions have far-reaching negative implications for our democracy and the will of the people.

I urge you to stand as true defenders of justice. Do not participate in or support any action, decision, or vote that compromises the integrity of our democracy, undermines the interests of the people of Rivers State, or contradicts our core values of fairness, equity, and transparency.

We must not allow ourselves to become instruments of injustice or contribute to the betrayal of the people's mandate. At this moment, we must prioritize what is right over what is wrong or convenient, remaining steadfast in defending the well-being of the people of Rivers State.

Together, let us stand firm in our resolve — because a new Nigeria is possible!
