Oriire school children Abduction: Why Governor Seyi Makinde Inaugurates a Judicial Commission of Inquiry

The Governor f Oyo State Engr. Seyi Makinde on Friday inaugurated a judicial panel of inquiry into the Oriire school children and teachers abduction.

Today, we inaugurated a Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the Oriire Abduction. As I said in my remarks during the inauguration, the assignment of this Commission is to establish the facts, identify any institutional or operational lapses, recommend measures that will strengthen the protection of our schools and communities, and help ensure that such a tragedy never happens again.




44 teachers and children kidnapped in three schools in Yawota and Ahoro-Esinele in Oriire LGA were released on July 10 after 56 days in captivity of the bandit terrorists.

Seyi Makinde while speaking in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, at the inauguration of an 8-man Judicial Conmission of Inquiry into the Abduction, affirmed that accountability and reform restore public confidence and help prevent a recurrence.

"Let me again appreciate the distinguished men and women who have agreed to serve on this Commission and wish them wisdom and success on this important assignment."

The Secretary of this Commission of Inquiry is Barr (Mrs) Olamide Sandra Tella.



According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Makinde emphasis that the call was about “ensuring that every lesson is learnt, and every question that deserves an answer is answered.”


“So it was for this reason that I called on the international community to support an independent examination of the circumstances surrounding the incident,” he said.


Mr Makinde added that the government’s duty did not end with the victims’ rescue, “though rescue brings relief, truth brings closure.”


“This judicial commission of inquiry represents our commitment to that responsibility,” he said.

The governor explained that the commission’s assignment was to establish the facts, identify any institutional or operational lapses, and recommend measures that will strengthen the protection of schools and communities.


“And help to ensure that such a tragedy never happens again,” he said.


Mr Makinde had called on the United Nations and other international human rights and accountability bodies to examine the circumstances surrounding the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.


He said while the victims had regained their freedom, the circumstances surrounding the incident were “sufficiently grave and unusual” to warrant an independent review.


Mr Makinde said the incident raised questions that require independent scrutiny beyond Nigeria’s domestic institutions.

He made the call in a statewide broadcast hours after the Nigerian military formally handed over the rescued pupils and teachers to the state government following their release after 56 days in captivity.


The Oyo State House of Assembly threw its weight behind Mr Makinde’s call for the independent international investigation into the abduction.


However, the Nigerian Senate rejected the governor’s request for foreign intervention in the matter, arguing that the incident was a domestic security matter that should be handled within Nigeria.

At the inaguration of the judicial commission of inquiry on the abduction on Friday, Mr Makinde charged all members of the commission to bring their decades of experience, integrity, and public service to bear on the assignment before them.


He also advised them to let their work “be guided only by the evidence, the law, and the public interest.


“The people of our state, and indeed Nigerians, expect nothing less than an impartial, credible process,” he said.


The governor, who gave the commission four weeks to complete the assignment, urged members to feel free to come back to him if they require additional time to ensure that “no stone is left unturned.”


He promised to provide every support required for the commission to carry out its assignment independently and professionally.


Mr Makinde also called on individuals, institutions, and relevant agencies to cooperate fully by making available any information that would assist the commission in arriving at the truth.


Speaking with journalists shortly after the inauguration, the commission’s chairman, retired Justice Mojeed Owoade, pledged that the commission would carry out the assignment with all sense of responsibility.


Mr Owoade added that transparency and diligence to uncover the truth would be the commission’s watchwords.



In a country where insecurity is ravaging inform of Boko Haram, Fulani herdsmen, banditry and kidnapping gangs making lives and properties of the citizens unsecured with the State apparatus in terms of both political and security operatives remained deliberately ineffective, Oyo State Governor is doing the right thing.

The Saudi initiative aims to protect international maritime routes and counter threats targeting global commercial shipping and navigation.

The meeting discussed the alliance’s founding arrangements, including Saudi Arabia serving as the founding and leading nation.

Fourteen participating countries, including Egypt and Turkey, expressed support for the Multinational Maritime Defense Alliance initiative

Yemeni Armed Forces issues warning to the Saudi Coalition members 

To the countries that have declared their alliance with the Saudi enemy and whose names were mentioned within the coalition and aggression against Yemen:

We clarify that the decision to impose a transit ban only included Saudi ships, in response to the brutal aggression that targeted our country.

Accordingly, we warn these countries against engaging in or participating in protecting Saudi ships or supporting their operations, and against dragging their countries into a confrontation that has nothing to do with them.

Any direct participation in protecting or supporting Saudi ships, as stated in the statement, will render the ships of those countries subject to the expansion of the ban decision to include them.

This is a final warning and a clear message: Do not involve your countries in a war that is not yours.

The Red Sea is not an open arena for those who wish to escalate, and any new step will be met with corresponding steps.

TASS: Colombian Fighters Now Nearly Half of Ukraine’s Foreign Contingent,

Russian defence sources, cited by TASS, have reported that Colombian nationals now make up almost half of Ukraine’s estimated 16,500 foreign fighters—more than 7,000 people.

  They say many Western volunteers and contractors from the US, UK, Germany, Canada and elsewhere left after late 2025 and were replaced by lower-cost recruits from Latin America, especially Colombia.

The Board of Peace and the mediating countries of Egypt, Qatar, Türkiye, and the United States today are pleased to announce that Hamas has agreed to a detailed Roadmap for implementing the next phases of the Gaza ceasefire.

The agreement concludes months of intensive, good faith negotiations to advance President Donald J. Trump's vision for establishing new governance, security, humanitarian relief, reconstruction, and economic recovery in Gaza as set out in the Comprehensive Peace Plan and U.N. Security Council Resolution 2803.

The Roadmap represents a historic breakthrough. For the first time, Hamas officially has committed to an actionable plan for relinquishing all its weapons, which will be followed by Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.

It holds the promise of delivering significant benefits to the people of Gaza, who have waited for too long for a better future, and security to the people of Israel.

Our focus now turns to implementation. The Board of Peace has worked closely with the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG). It will soon begin a phased transition toward full authority, backed by the International Stabilization Force (ISF), and will accelerate implementation of the rule of law, security, and humanitarian improvement in Gaza

 

A Roadmap for Completing the Implementation of President Trump’s Comprehensive Peace Plan in Gaza




Principles:




1. All parties reaffirm their commitment to President Trump’s Comprehensive Plan to achieve peace in Gaza, which constitutes, together with the UN Security Council Resolution no. 2803 (2025), the agreed upon international framework guiding the implementation of this process. Through this process, the parties aim at ending the cycle of destruction, securing the complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza Strip, restoring normal life, enabling Palestinian governance, reconstruction, security, recovery and economic development, rehabilitating damaged sectors and facilitate launching a credible political path that achieves self-determination and Statehood.




2. Israel shall fully complete, without delay, all remaining commitments under Sharm Sheikh Protocol, particularly the cessation of military operations as detailed in annex (1). Hamas and the Palestinian factions shall complete the cessation of all military operations in accordance with Sharm Sheikh Protocol and the Peace Plan. In parallel, the timetable and implementation mechanisms of this Roadmap (“Implementation of Phase 2”) shall be prepared within 14 days after all parties approve the Roadmap, which could be extended by a decision by the International Verification Committee (IVC). Upon the completion of the timetable and implementation mechanisms, the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG) shall enter the Strip and start to assume its responsibilities. The IVC, that shall be established by the Board of Peace (BoP), comprising representatives from the guarantors, BoP and the International Stabilization Force (ISF), shall certify that both parties fulfill their commitments under the Roadmap before proceeding to the implementation of Phase 2.




3. Progression from one phase to the following one shall be contingent on the verified completion of the commitments of the previous phase. This verification shall be done by the IVC, which shall also observe any violations by either party through an enhanced monitoring mechanism.




4. Hamas and other factions agree that all civilian governance and security functions in Gaza shall be handed over to NCAG in accordance with President Trump’s Comprehensive Peace Plan in Gaza. They also assert that NCAG shall enjoy full independence in carrying out its responsibilities and that the factions shall not interfere in NCAG affairs during the transitional period, in accordance with UNSC Resolution 2803 (2025).




5. Upon fully assuming its responsibilities in Gaza, NCAG shall maintain the continuity of civilian institutions and public services.




All civil servants shall be treated lawfully, fairly and with dignity with respect to their rights. Those whose services are terminated or who are retired during the transitional period shall receive their rights in accordance with the Palestinian law.




With international support, NCAG shall carry out a comprehensive audit of the financial and administrative affairs in Gaza, and protect, recover and administer public assets and resources.




NCAG shall seek to assess the legitimate commitments to suppliers, contractors and other parties – up to a total amount of no more than $400M USD - and address them.




The implementation of these measures will be undertaken gradually, within three years, in accordance with priorities determined by the NCAG.




Any unresolved financial rights, liabilities or claims shall be addressed within the context of a wider national process later, and in accordance with the relevant Palestinian law

Iran's IRGC claims they destroyed three F-35 jets, Donald Trump becomes agitated, lost his temper

In response to the attack on two residential homes on Qeshm Island, IRGC Aerospace Force fighters attacked the deployment ramp and maintenance hangar of the American enemy's F-35 fighter jets at Al-Azraq airbase in Jordan with several ballistic missiles.

US President Donald Trump reportedly lost his temper during a security meeting, shouting and cursing out of frustration over the military options presented to him and the lack of progress toward a deal with Iran – NBC.

Iran may not send negotiators to Pakistan or Qatar, sources closed the Iranian Supreme leader said.

Citing a US official and people familiar with the matter, NBC News reported on Wednesday that Trump “exploded” during a recent meeting with his top national security officials “yelling expletives” to express his frustration over the lack of progress in the war.

Trump’s aides cannot agree on a path forward, the official added. “After all this time, there is no unity.”

Meanwhile, two other people familiar with the White House discussions said that Trump has become increasingly frustrated with Tehran-Washington negotiations.

“The president is exasperated,” a Trump ally who has spoken with Trump in recent weeks said.

“I don’t think he believed it was going to be this difficult to get the Iranians to agree to a deal. There was not a real strategy for how long or what they should do to get to the endpoint,” the Trump ally noted. “He did not intend this to be a long, drawn-out war.”

However, Iran intensifies diplomacy with other countries within and outside the Gulf region to deny United States of military use of their bases for aggression against Tehran.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Cypriot counterpart Constantinos Kombos held a phone call on Thursday to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments.

Araghchi stressed the need to prevent any misuse of foreign bases in Cyprus for acts of aggression against Iran, citing the UN General Assembly's Definition of Aggression (Resolution 3314), which classifies providing territory for aggression against a third state as an act of aggression itself .

The Cypriot FM reaffirmed his country's commitment to the UN Charter and international law, stating that Cyprus has secured assurances from the UK that its bases on the island will not be used against any country, including Iran .

Iran promised retaliatory attacks against any military base used to attack Tehran in any country. Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, UAE, Qatar, Jordan are all witnessing Iranian ballistic missiles in the US military bases in their countries .

According to the Iran's foreign ministry,  Araghchi had also protested to his Bulgarian counterpart, Velislava Petrova-Chamova, over what Tehran described as Bulgaria's decision to allow the United States to station military aircraft at Bezmer Air Base in support of operations against Iran.

 Araghchi told Bulgarian FM that the reported decision was "condemnable, unacceptable and contrary to the traditional friendly relations between the two countries," and urged Sofia to reconsider it.

ESCALATIONS IN MIDDLE EAST: Tehran has no plans to send a delegation to Pakistan or Qatar for negotiations with US

Iran's Foreign Ministry says Iranian, Omani deputy foreign ministers meet on Strait of Hormuz management

Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baghaei announced that several rounds of talks between Iran and Oman were held in Tehran on Friday and Saturday at the level of deputy foreign ministers on the Strait of Hormuz management.

According to the reports, the two sides exchanged views on common principles and operational mechanisms for managing safe maritime transit in the Strait of Hormuz, respecting the sovereign rights of both coastal states .

Baghaei described the talks as "useful" with progress made. The Omani delegation left -Tehran on Saturday evening, but technical and political consultations continue .

Responding to a question on the strait's current status, Baghaei confirmed that "no change has occurred in the traffic situation".

He said "the talks were useful and progress was made" and "technical and political consultations" between the two sides are still ongoing.

Iran halted its attacks after the United States stopped its strikes for the past two nights, Iranian army spokesman said on Sunday.


“Americans stopped their attacks over the past two nights. Since our strategy has been entirely retaliatory, we also stopped our retaliatory operations,” Amir Akraminia said.


The spokesman also said US officials appeared divided and lacked a clear strategy, citing remarks by US President Donald Trump and the actions of US Central Command.

“The US strategy is unclear even to the country’s own officials. This is evident in the remarks of US officials, particularly the US president, as well as in the actions of US Central Command,” Akraminia said.


He warned that continued US strikes would expand the war, saying the conflict had already spread to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. That is where the Iranian proxy in Yemen are full operation against Saudi Arabia.

A US Senator Bernie Sanders called on the Trump administration to negotiate with Iran to end the war, saying talks were needed to “stop the killing” and limit economic damage.

US imposes new tariffs of up to 12.5% on 60 trading partners over force labour

By directives of President Donald Trump, the United States is imposing new Section 301 tariffs on 60 economies over what it calls failures to ban and enforce restrictions on imports of goods produced with forced labor, the US Trade Representative said.

The new duties will generally range from 10% to 12.5%, depending on whether the targeted economy has adopted or committed to adopt forced-labor import restrictions.

The measure applies to major US trading partners and is being introduced at President Donald Trump’s direction.

The additional duties are set to take effect on goods entering the US from July 24, 2026, with limited exemptions and a short transit exception for products alredy shipped.

Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has sacked all Fulani district heads, known as Ardos, replacing them with indigenous Nupe Chiefs in a historic move aimed at curbing kidnapping, violence, and terrorism. The decision effectively ends centuries of Fulani domination over indigenous people in the state, marking a significant shift in the region's political and traditional landscape.

Jianwei Han, an associate professor at the Middle East Studies Institute of Shanghai International Studies University, believes Iran has shown extraordinary resilience against U.S. military pressure, and that the current confrontation marks a watershed moment reshaping the Middle East's strategic landscape.



The U.S. has reportedly informed Israel that it plans to escalate attacks on Iran in the coming days. The Middle East conflict may be entering an even more dangerous phase.

In response, Israeli Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir has convened an emergency meeting of the entire General Staff at the Kirya in Tel Aviv, with discussions focused on air-defense readiness and preparations for the possibility of a large-scale, multi-front missile response from Iran.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Iran is not interested in talking to the U.S. either directly or indirectly and that the U.S. has been trying to reach out to them for negotiations.

"On the day Iran was supposed to issue the statement, they targeted and struck a vessel."

"The agreement with Iran included reopening the Strait of Hormuz and ensuring freedom of navigation. Iran was supposed to issue a statement to that effect a week and a half ago."

"Agreements are based on compliance. We reached an agreement with Iran, then they violated it, and it is no longer in effect."

Both Donald Trump during the NATO submit in Turkey and Iranian leaders declared the Islamabad agreement dead as escalations surged in the strait of Hormuz.

The U.S. has been surging forces, medics and weaponry to the Middle East to give President Trump more muscular military options as he considers expanding the conflict against Iran, according to people familiar with the matter.

Wednesday, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said US forces completed another round of strikes against Iran on Wednesday, marking the 12th consecutive night of attacks.

CENTCOM said the operation targeted Iranian maritime capabilities, missile and drone storage facilities, coastal surveillance sites, and air defense assets, adding that the strikes were intended to further degrade Iran’s ability to threaten civilian shipping.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed that "an explosion occurred on an oil tanker, and two tankers that were attempting to pass through the southern passage of the mine-filled Strait of Hormuz were forced to retreat due to U.S. provocation. Any vessel that is deceived by the United States and intends to pass through the Strait of Hormuz without coordinating with us will be subjected to incidents."

According to the Press TV, three US-backed oil tankers attempted to pass through the mined route south of the Strait of Hormuz. After one of the tankers exploded and caught fire, the other two quickly turned around and retreated.


Iran's army warned on Thursday that it could adopt new military strategies if the United States continued attacking infrastructure and coastal areas in the country's south, saying its retaliatory operations were entering a new phase.


Army spokesperson Mohammad Akraminia said the armed forces were carrying out retaliatory strikes after what he described as a US violation of an understanding between the two sides.


"If they insist on continuing their hostile actions against our country's southern regions, we will certainly adopt new measures," Akraminia told the Defence Press news agency. "New scenarios have been anticipated and worked on, and we will definitely act in a new way to deter the enemy from continuing the war."


He said Iran had other strategies that would be disclosed "at the appropriate time" and that its air force and air defences were better prepared after using a ceasefire period to improve combat readiness.


Akraminia also said Iran considered a ground assault possible and had prepared for different scenarios.

"If the enemy resorts to aggression by land, its vulnerability will certainly be far greater than in air or long-range attacks," he said, adding that ground operations would give Iranian forces more opportunities to inflict casualties.

Already, Iranian forces destroyed US military bases in the Gulf region in Iraq, Syria, Bahrain, Kuwait, UAE, Jordan inflicting multiple casualties against United States. Certainly no where in the middle east is safe for the American forces and weapons.

With Britain granting US access to use her military base for operation against Iran or even including and preparing to join the war alongside with the US and Israel, wining or loosing the war against Tehran will not save UK from becoming a target of the Islamic Republic retaliations.

Iran Rejects US backed 10-day ceasefire As IRGC Target Military Facilities in Bahrain, Kuwait with missiles and drones

Iran's Supreme Leaders 

Iran has rejected a U.S.-backed 10-day Qatari ceasefire proposal, with senior Iranian analyst and close adviser to Iran's negotiating team Mohammad Marandi dismissing the offer with a blunt message: "Don't even think about it."


The proposal reportedly called for a 10-day truce that would reopen two shipping lanes through the Strait of Hormuz. Marandi has previously said Iran has "no plans" to resume negotiations, citing a "fundamental lack of seriousness" from the Trump administration, while Iranian officials have repeatedly said talks will not resume until the threat against Iran has ended.


Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has issued a sharp warning to the United States, dismissing Washington’s military buildup in the region as contradictory to its public calls for de-escalation.


Ghalibaf said the United States continues to move additional military equipment into the Middle East while claiming it is seeking to stop the war, adding that Washington has “bet on our intelligence being as brief as their own IQ.” He stated that Iran has reached a stage where it fully understands what he described as American tactics and has prepared accordingly, stressing that “actions must confirm claims, not contradict them.”


Iran's Revolutionary Guards said on Monday they had targeted US military facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait with missiles and drones, including Al-Sakhir Air Base and Bin Salman Port in Bahrain and Arifjan Base in Kuwait.


In a statement, the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps said its navy strikes formed part of what it called the 23rd wave of "Nasr 2" operations and included attacks on facilities it said were used to maintain US drones, prepare naval vessels and support special operations forces.


The Guards said the attacks inflicted heavy damage and that operations against what they described as US military targets in the region would continue.


The statement also rejected comments by US President Donald Trump suggesting Iran was running low on missiles and drones, saying it would continue launching such weapons for as long as any conflict lasted.

Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei says negotiations with the US could be pursued based on national interests

Baghaei says intermediaries have shared messages with Tehran over recent days.

IRGC said they would deliver what they described as a "memorable lesson" to the United States if it carried out further attacks, reaffirming their support for Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.


The Guards said they would not rely on US pledges, arguing that past experience had reinforced their distrust of Washington.


"If the criminal United States once again chooses the path of aggression, we remain committed to delivering the 'memorable lesson' promised by the Leader," the statement said.

Iranian President has said on Monday Iran is fighting a "full-scale war" with the United States, adding that managing the home fronts is very necessary to ensure that the Iranians didn't suffer as Washington expanded its strikes across the Islamic republic including a city hosting a nuclear power plant.

Iran's Military spokesperson Brigadier General Akraminia said the war will go on until Iran achieves full deterrence, stressing this is based on rationality and experience—not emotion. Without it, he warned, the enemy would miscalculate and attack again.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said late on Sunday that Iran is using the Strait of Hormuz as leverage in the war, adding that other countries need to "step up" pressure to protect global shipping. Iranian Times reported.

While rejecting the ceasefire, Tehran still dept open, diplomatic doors as Iran’s Interior Minister, Eskandar Momeni, traveled to Pakistan on July 20, at the invitation of Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Syed Mohsin Naqvi, heading a high-level delegation.

The delegation accompanying the minister includes representatives from the Ministries of Interior, Foreign Affairs, Roads and Urban Development, and Agriculture, as well as officials from the Law Enforcement Command (FARAJA) and the Customs Administration.

"The Bill, sponsored by Senator Ned Nwoko (APC, Delta North), seeks to compel social media platforms, data controllers and data processors operating in Nigeria to establish physical offices in the country, and empowers the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) to shut down or prohibit the operations of any entity that fails to comply within 30 days."




SERAP argued that requirements compelling technology companies to establish local offices would increase government leverage over platforms, facilitate political pressure, make censorship demands easier and expose local employees to retaliation."




"The Bill would create sweeping powers capable of shutting down or excluding social media platforms from the Nigerian market and expose millions of Nigerians to serious violations of their constitutionally and internationally guaranteed human rights.




"The Bill follows earlier attempts by the National Assembly to regulate social media that generated widespread public opposition and serious human rights concerns."




"The current Bill revives substantially similar proposals previously introduced by Senator Nwoko, raising renewed concerns that localisation requirements are being used as a vehicle for expanding governmental control over digital platforms and online expression."




Should the Bill be enacted into law in its current or substantially similar form, SERAP shall promptly take all appropriate legal actions to challenge its legality in the public interest and to ensure that Nigerians’ fundamental rights are fully protected.

LABOUR PARTY: FLYING ON BORROWED WINGS

A story was once told of a prideful, deceptive and a subtle tortoise who after loosing out in an animal kingdom decided to compete and complete the kingship rites and rituals in the birds kingdom. Some members of his family questioned his affinity with the birds kingdom and the possibilities of ceding out the kingship to him since he cannot fly. His wife and children reminded him that flying across seven rivers in their known world is part of the ceremonial rites. The tortoise assured his family that he had already settled the kingmakers, and telling his wife that he was called to come for the contest by the eagle because he was denied the right to become the king. Ostrich was equally in support because she couldn't fly across the seven rivers, she decided to give out feathers to support the tortoise together with some dissidents birds for him to complete the kingship rites. Despite the fact that the priests and diviners warned these rebellious birds to allow the Peacock chosen by divinity to become the king, they obstinately stood against the warning by the gods that the rats would not squeak like rats, the birds would not chirp like birds and humans will not speak like humans 

On the day of the completion of the rituals, a sacrifice must be carried by the king to be, so the tortoise begged eagle to carry him on her wings with the sacrifice at dawn to the sacred forest to place the sacrifice in front of the gods. On his way back on the wings of the eagle, sighting the town at a distance and the flocks of birds awaiting his arrival in the village square, he thanked the eagle for her support but begged her to let him be on his own as he had already glued the borrowed wings to his arm and legs to proof that he can fly. Eagle warned him against the decision, but before you can say Jack, he jumped from the eagle's back and cracked in pieces in the midst of the awaiting townsmen.

Politics in Ogun State has always been competitive. But right now, the Labour Party in the state is dealing with a distraction that threatens to drown out real work: a parallel faction built not by grassroots structure, but by a group of transactional politicians looking for shortcuts to relevance through the stroke of pen.

The trouble started when some individuals, who played little or no role in building the party from ward to state level, decided to announce a separate "exco." It was not done through congress. It was not recognized by the national constitution of the Labour Party but by some individuals at the national against the will of the people of Ogun State. It was simply declared, with memo and borrowed logos.

That is the problem. You cannot build legitimacy by photocopying it.

*The constitutional exco*  

The state executive Committee led by *Apagun Olaolu Samuel* emerged through the process laid out in the party constitution. The state congress produced officers with mandates from members on the ground. That is how political parties are supposed to function. Not by WhatsApp declarations, not by borrowing halls for parallel meetings.

This exco has been carrying out the basic work: reconciling members while the supposedly national leaders were outrightly kicking against such without first coming to beg for permission on performing our rights and obligations as Chairman, preparing for elections, and engaging communities on Labour Party ideals. It is not perfect. No new structure is. But it has the one thing the other group does not: a paper trail rooted in the party’s own rules and constitution 

*Why the parallel group exists*  

The second group is not an ideological split. It is a transactional arrangement. In Nigerian politics, we have seen this pattern before. When an election cycle approaches, some actors who could not win internal elections try to create a second center of power. The goal is not to grow the party. The goal is to negotiate. To get recognition. To sell access. To fly on wings that do not belong to them.

Borrowed wings cannot sustain flight. They look good in photos, but they have no roots in the wards, no structure in the LGAs, and no accountability to the members who knocked on doors in 2023. 

*The cost to Ogun Labour Party*  

1. *Confusion*: New members do not know which leadership to approach. That slows down mobilization.

2. *Resources wasted*: Time and money that should go into voter education and candidate grooming are spent fighting for letterheads.

3. *Credibility damaged*: Voters are watching. When a party cannot manage its own house, it becomes hard to ask the public to trust it with the state.

An oral history in the Ifa verses stated _" . . . lo difa fún Ológbò jigolo baba awo, nigba to nṣawo ròde Oyo, won ni eyin agba, é má j'obi to gbo, eyin agba, é má fẹ aya meji ni rogbarogba"_ literally meaning 'as Ologbo Jigolo was divinely instructed in those days, warning that the elders must not be attracted by the matured cola nuts, neither should they be engaged to two wives simultaneously. The instructions are simple, the elders should not take bribe neither should they double date.

*The way forward*  

Parties grow through discipline, not drama. The national leadership of the Labour Party must do three things quickly:

- *Affirm the constitutional exco*: Put it in writing. Circulate it to INEC, to stakeholders, and to the public in Ogun State. Ambiguity is what transactional politicians thrive on.

- *Sanction impersonation*: Anyone parading as an officer outside the constitutional process should be shown the door. Politics cannot reward forgery.

- *Open the door for real reconciliation*: Not for power-sharing with a parallel group, but for members who were genuinely aggrieved during congresses to be heard within the structure led by Apagun Olaolu Samuel.

Ogun Labour Party has a real opportunity. The appetite for alternatives is there. Young voters, artisans, teachers, and traders are looking for a party that speaks to competence and accountability. They will not wait while a few individuals argue over borrowed titles.

You do not build a movement by creating two heads. You build it by strengthening the one head that the constitution recognizes, and then making it work.

Borrowed wings might get you a few meters off the ground. But to fly in 2027, Ogun Labour Party needs its own wings. And right now, those wings are with the legally and constitutionally emerged state exco led by Apagun Olaolu Samuel.

Our attention has been drawn to the desperate and misleading press statement issued on July 16, 2026, by one Alhaji Ibrahim Onabiyi, who parades himself as Labour Party Chairman of Ogun State through a purely illegal and unconstitutional process. In that statement, they made several false claims, including the allegation that I, Hon. Kika Glasgow, am a member of the National Democratic Coalition (NDC) and therefore cannot serve as the Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party.

We categorically state that while I did resign from the Labour Party at a point and joined the NDC, I have since withdrawn my resignation, returned to the Labour Party, and have been fully reinstated as the duly elected Publicity Secretary of the Apagun Olaolu Samuel Babatunde-led Ogun State Executive Committee. I am no longer a member of the NDC – I am a bona fide, card-carrying member of the Labour Party. The opponents are clutching at a past event that has been rectified, in a vain attempt to distract from their own constitutional violations.

This statement serves to:

1. Set the records straight on my current status.

2. Expose the illegality of the so-called "harmonisation" that produced the Onabiyi faction.

3. Reiterate the supremacy of the Labour Party Constitution and the rule of law.

FACTS OF THE MATTER – MY STATUS CLARIFIED

1. I was duly elected as State Publicity Secretary at the authentic State Congress of the Labour Party in Ogun State held on April 25, 2026, where Apagun Olaolu Samuel Babatunde emerged as the valid State Chairman.

2. I later submitted a resignation letter and joined the NDC for personal reasons.

3. However, I withdrew that resignation and officially returned to the Labour Party. Following due process, I was reinstated as the State Publicity Secretary of the Apagun Olaolu Samuel Babatunde-led Executive Committee.

4. As of today, I am not a member of the NDC. I am a loyal and active member of the Labour Party, holding a validly elected position.

5. The allegation that I am currently a member of another party is false – it is a distortion of a past event that has been fully resolved.

The opponents  are resorting to cheap blackmail and fabrication to undermine our legitimate leadership.

THE SO-CALLED "HARMONISATION" – A KANGAROO EXERCISE

Mrs. Oriola Nike Job, the National Deputy Chairman (South), convened what she deceitfully called a "harmonisation meeting" only after she realised that Apagun Olaolu Samuel Babatunde had won the state congress fair and square.

This so-called harmonisation:

· Was never a congress – it was a mere gathering of a few handpicked individuals.

· Had no constitutional basis – the Labour Party Constitution does not recognise "harmonisation" as a substitute for a properly conducted State Congress.

· Was not advertised to all party members.

· Was not monitored by INEC.

· Produced a parallel executive that has no mandate from the Ogun State party members.

The truth is simple: Mrs. Oriola Nike Job did not like the outcome of the democratic process, so she decided to impose her preferred candidate, Alhaji Ibrahim Onabiyi, through the backdoor. This is a flagrant abuse of office and a direct assault on internal democracy.

THE LEGAL AND CONSTITUTIONAL POSITION – WHY THEIR STRUCTURE IS NULL AND VOID

1. Section 223 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) mandates that political parties shall conduct periodic elections for their executive committees on a democratic basis. The "harmonisation" exercise was not democratic – it was an imposition.

2. The Labour Party Constitution vests the authority to organise State Congresses in the duly elected State Executive Committees. No National Officer, including the National Deputy Chairman (South), has the power to bypass the State Executive and impose a parallel structure.

3. INEC's own portal still recognises Apagun Olaolu Samuel Babatunde as the State Chairman of the Labour Party in Ogun State. This is incontrovertible evidence that the Commission acknowledges our legitimacy and rejects the illegal parallel structure.

4. Judicial precedents – In the recent ADC case, the Court of Appeal affirmed that state congresses conducted in violation of party constitution and court orders are invalid, and that the responsibility for organising congresses rests with State Executives, not national leadership. The court also barred INEC from recognising such illegal congresses. Similarly, the Supreme Court in the PDP Ibadan Convention case nullified a convention held in violation of a court order, holding that such actions amount to making a mockery of the judiciary.

By all legal standards, the Onabiyi-led parallel structure is a nullity.

REBUTTAL OF SPECIFIC FALSE CLAIMS

False Claim Truth

"Glasgow Kika is a member of NDC and cannot be Publicity Secretary." I resigned and joined NDC temporarily, but I withdrew my resignation, returned to LP, and was reinstated. I am not currently a member of NDC.

"The harmonisation produced a legitimate State Executive." The harmonisation was an illegal imposition, not a congress. It violated the Party Constitution and INEC guidelines.

"Apagun Olaolu has no authority to suspend officials." That is correct – but we are not the ones suspending anyone. They are the ones who have no authority to even exist as an executive.

"INEC should disregard Apagun Olaolu." INEC's portal still recognises Apagun Olaolu as Chairman – the Commission knows the truth.

OUR DEMANDS AND WARNING

TO THE NATIONAL LEADERSHIP OF THE LABOUR PARTY AND MRS. ORIOLA NIKE JOB:

We demand that you:

1. Immediately withdraw recognition from the illegal Onabiyi parallel structure.

2. Publicly affirm Apagun Olaolu Samuel Babatunde as the authentic State Chairman of Ogun State.

3. Cease all interference in the affairs of the Ogun State chapter.

4. Direct INEC to release the access code to our legitimate State Executive to upload our candidates.

We put you on NOTICE that if these demands are not met within 7 days, we shall proceed to court.

TO ALHAJI IBRAHIM ONABIYI AND HIS COHORTS:

Your illegal occupation of party structures and your baseless allegations against me will not stand. You are merely trying to divert attention from your own constitutional violations.

We have reported your criminal impersonation and trespass to law enforcement agencies.

TO THE INDEPENDENT NATIONAL ELECTORAL COMMISSION (INEC):

We call on you to:

1. Uphold the Electoral Act and your own guidelines – do not recognise any candidate from the illegal parallel primaries.

2. Immediately release the access code to Apagun Olaolu Samuel Babatunde, the recognised State Chairman on your portal.

3. Note that your refusal to release the code is creating an unnecessary crisis and may expose you to litigation.

We are prepared to go to court.

CONCLUSION

The Labour Party belongs to its members, not to any individual. The will of the Ogun State party members, as expressed in the April 25, 2026 State Congress, must be respected.

Apagun Olaolu Samuel Babatunde is the valid State Chairman.

I, Hon. Kika Glasgow, am the valid State Publicity Secretary – currently and lawfully a member of the Labour Party.

The Onabiyi parallel structure is a nullity and should be disregarded by all.

We call on all party members, the media, and the general public to see through the desperate smokescreen of our opponents. The rule of law and internal democracy must prevail.

Russia fired ballistic missiles at Kyiv causing fires. Atleast 2 people were killed and several injured.

This happened while EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was visiting Kyiv to discuss stronger defense cooperation and EU support for Ukraine.

Russian officials and media described the strikes as a warning against EU visits and actions that they say prolong the war.

Who is Behind Kwara Terrorism: one killed, one kidnapped, several injured as terrorists ransacked Ifelodun LGA

Nigeria government has consistently demonstrated that the country is a terrorists conquered region where live is summarily nasty, brutish, cheap and short. 

The capacity to secure lives and properties of the citizens are not lacking but that the Pro-terrorists are in charge of the country's affairs must be an undisputable reason behind security sabotage as citizens face pains of insecurity in the hands of non state actors dishing out brutalities without measure in different parts of the country.

They Nigeria's government of APC both at the national and Kwara State need to tell Nigerians, the invincible hands sustaining terrorism in the state and nationwide.

Terrorists on Wednesday night invaded Wande community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing one person, abducting another resident and injuring several others in the latest wave of attacks to hit communities in the state's southern axis.

The attack has further heightened fears among residents, who say bandit activities have continued to spread across Kwara South despite ongoing security operations.  Close to 200 are already in bandits captivity in the state.

According to Sahara Report, source familiar with the incident told confirmed that the terrorists stormed Wande community on Wednesday night, opening fire on residents and leaving behind casualties before fleeing with one abducted victim.

According to the source, one person was killed during the attack, another was kidnapped, while several residents sustained injuries.

Describing the ordeal, the source said he was physically assaulted by the attackers and suffered a serious head injury after being struck with the butt of a gun.

"They hit me on the head with the butt of their gun. Blood has been coming out from my head. The person they shot; we are taking him to the hospital in Igbaja. We are on our way," the source said.

Residents said the latest attack underscores the worsening security situation in Kwara South, where several rural communities have reportedly been deserted as people flee persistent attacks by armed groups.

"Kwara South has become a hotspot for bandits, while many communities have been deserted," the source added.

Meanwhile, a top security source told reporters on Thursday that the attackers were believed to be members of a terrorist group that had earlier been engaged by security operatives in Yaru town before escaping towards Wande.

According to the security source, security forces had mounted an operation against the terrorists on Wednesday morning in Yaru, forcing them to retreat in the direction of Wande community, where they later carried out the deadly attack.

"It was obvious because they pushed them yesterday morning at Yaru again. They ran towards that end," the security source said.

SaharaReporters previously reported that the Iru Ẹ̀kún Security Network, a security outfit linked to Yoruba nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, known as Sunday Igboho, has accused Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of preventing the group from visiting the state.

The security network alleged that the governor objected to the planned visit despite growing insecurity and persistent attacks by suspected armed herdsmen and terrorists in parts of Kwara South.

The allegation was contained in a voice note obtained by SaharaReporters through the State Administrator of the Iru Ẹ̀kún Security Network in Osun State, Mr. Bolarinwa Kazeem Ayobami.

In the audio message, Ayobami announced that the planned visit of the security outfit to Kwara State had been suspended following an objection from Governor AbdulRazaq.

The planned visit, according to him, was intended to meet members of the Iru Ẹ̀kún Security Network already operating in Kwara State. 

However, he said the leadership of the organisation decided to cancel the trip to avoid exposing members in the state to possible risks.

"In truth, if all of us were to go there, no one would be able to do anything to us. However, the people we intended to meet are members of the Iru Ẹ̀kún Security Network in Kwara State. We do not want the visit to create problems or put any individuals at risk," he said.

He further noted that the governor opposed the visit because "he's a Fulani man."

"We have now been informed that the Governor of Kwara State has refused permission because he's a Fulani man. Because of that, the trip has been suspended for now,” he said. 

"Therefore, the meeting that was scheduled to hold in Kwara tomorrow will no longer take place."
