US confirms deployment of small team of troops to Nigeria — reports

The United States has sent a small group of soldiers to Nigeria, the first confirmed ground presence since December airstrikes, Reuters reported.

 

U.S. Africa Command’s Gen. Dagvin Anderson said the move came after recent talks in Rome with Nigerian President Bola Tinubu.

APC led federal government was voted in 2015 to primarily end insurgence, create jobs and improve the economy.  However, under the APC leadership, insecurity knows no bounds, multiple Terrorists group emanated as the government was less concerned about the protection of lives and properties of the citizens.

Insecurity has since becomes a multi dimensional business for the political and military elites. Billions of dollars have been allocated to fight the menace of terrorism. 

The Nigeria's government has not addressed the country on the cost implications of the American intervention. 

However, US President Donald Trump's intervention and bombing of the islamists Terrorists in Sokoto in the Christmas Eve was a relief to many Nigerians. 

This deployment of the US troops marks the first confirmed U.S. boots on the ground in Nigeria and a significant escalation of American military involvement in the Nigeria's fight against the terrorists ravaging the the country.

The public deserves clarity on scope, mission, and legal authority.

Highlights of the Special NWC And Strategic Stakeholders Meeting of Labour Party

 The opposition Labour Party held a Special NWC And Strategic Stakeholders Meeting of  Party on Saturday 31st January, 2026 at Asokoro Abuja FCT under the national Leaders of the Distinguished Senator Nenadi Esther Usman.

1. Distinguished Senator Nanadi Usman, Ph.D gave the opening remarks and acknowledged INEC for complying with the Federal High Court Judgement Order of 21st January, 2026 on 30th January 2026 Recognizing her leadership via Upload of the names of NWC members on the INEC portal as prerequisite to the conduct of congreeses and national convention.

Nenadi acknowledged the statutory national executive council (NEC) headed by Gov. Alex Otti of Abia State for it's 4th September 2024 appointment of a 29-man Interim National Working Committee/Caretaker Committee (INWC/NCTC) after the expiration of Julius Abure's tenure on 8th September, 2024.

Nenadi recalled the 18th July 2025 ratification of her INWC appointment in line with party's internal mechanism as admonished by the Supreme Court Judgement of 4th April 2025 that sacked Julius Abure and Umar Farouk Ibrahim and awarded all three issues in dispute in the Appellants favour.

Nenadi acknowledged the Supreme Court Judgement of 4th April, 2025 in Suit No: SC/CV/56/2025 that dismissed the FCT High court Judgements of 8th October, 2024, the Appeal Court Judgement of 17th January, 2025 that earlier recognized Abure as national chairman for lack of Jurisdiction and also dismissed Julius Abure's cross appeal in Suit No: SC/CV/56A/2025 for lack of Jurisdiction.

Nenadi acknowledged the Federal High Court-9 Judgment Order of 21st January, 2026 that ordered INEC in line with the Supreme Court Judgement to recognize her leadership as the ONLY valid leadership of the party and for the SWIFT implementation by INEC on 30th January, 2026.

(2): Distinguished Senator Darlington Nwokocha, the National Secretary gave major updates on party activities.

(i): The conduct of congresses and national convention as follows:

(a): Ward Congress: 14th March, 2026

(b): LGA Congress: 28th March, 2026

(c): State Congress: 11th April, 2026

(d): Zonal Congress/Delegates Election: 18th April, 2026

(e): National Convention: 25th April, 2026

(ii): The Senator Nanadi Usman led National Executive shall resume at the party's national Secretariat at Utako District, Abuja within the week on or before Friday the 6th February, 2026

(III): The Labour Party LP shall NOT be featuring in the 21st February, 2026 FTC AMAC & Area Council Election. The matter filed by the candidates seeking INEC recognition for upload of their names and particulars wa was dismissed by Justice Peter Lifu (JP) of the Federal High Court 9 Abuja on the grounds that it's application was statute barred (filed out of time) even though they had a good case.

(IV): Filling of Vacancies which occured in NWC & States Interim Executive arising from the defections 

(V): Membership Revalidation/New Registration: Hybrid Registration both Online and offline shall be adopted for Registration of 10 million members minimum to be unveiled sooner.

(VI): Setting up of Reconciliation committee to reconcile aggrieved party members and Julius Abure's group.

(3): The Board of Trustees BOT, NLC & TUC as critical stakeholders remarked separately and acknowledged Gov. Alex otti and also urged him to follow up with a joint session of NWC NEC with the NEC of NLC & TUC to arrive at plans for deploying an aggressive membership Registration and grassroot activities

The governor provided the details of the meeting to journalists and expressed regret that the Labour Party presidential candidate in the last general elections, Peter Obi was no longer with them.

He said, “Very soon the congresses will happen and the national convention will also take place.

“The other major issue discussed is the revalidation of membership and the registration of new members. 

A committee has been set up and very soon that will also start.

“We’ll begin with preparation for congresses that will happen in March, 2026.

“We also regretted the exit of the former leader of the party and former presidential candidate of the party. While we regret the exit, we wish him well.

“We’ve also decided that the party should come together and become a stronger force. 

We’ve also lost a few members to defection, even some members of the National Assembly. 

But despite all that, this party remains strong.

“We also decided that we need to set up a reconciliation committee. But the interim NWC will advise us on when to set up that committee. 

The whole idea is to reconcile every one who is waiting and desires to come back.

“We also appeal to Julius Abule and his team to sheath their swords and come back to the party. If they’re able to subject to the rules of the party, we will be happy to see them back.

“We also want to tell those who want to join the party that our doors are open to receive them. 

Finally we regret that we’ll not be able to participate as a party in the forthcoming FCT council elections.”

National Leader Of Labour Party, Alex Otti Says LP Will Never Join Any Coalition Ahead Of 2027 General Elections

National Leader of the Opposite Labour Party and governor ofAbia State Dr Alex Otti has stated that the Labour Party (LP) will never join any coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Abia State Governor said the Labour Party is already a coalition on its own comprising the Nigerian workers and people of progressive minds.




Alex Otti who addressed journalists after the Labour Party’s national executive committee meeting in Abuja on Saturday, said that there is no plan to join any coalition. Labour is already a coalition. This is the coalition of Nigerian workers and people who are progressive like-minded.


“So, I know when people talk about joining another coalition. We have no such plans,” he said.

The LP NEC meeting comes a few days after the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja affirmed the removal of Julius Abure as the party’s national chairman.

The Nigeria's Electoral umpire Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was also ordered by the Court to recognize the Senator Nenadi Usman-led National Caretaker Committee as the party’s lawful leadership.

And the Abia State governor confirmed this on Saturday, saying that the electoral umpire had obeyed the court order by removing the name of Abure from its website and had replaced it with Mrs. Usman.


Meanwhile, the impostor and agent of the ruling party Barrister Abure had described the court ruling as unacceptable, vowing to approach the Court of Appeal to seek redress.

Ogun State Labour Party Extends Olive Branch to All Factions in the Spirit of Unity and Collaboration

Abeokuta - In a groundbreaking move aimed at fostering unity and collaboration, the Ogun State Labour Party has officially extended an olive branch to all factions within the party. Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman made it clear in a statement during a special briefing session in Washington yesterday Friday.

Prince Khalid bin Salman told the audience, including heads of research centers and American officials, that if President Trump does not carry out his repeated threats to strike Iran, "that will only lead to emboldening the regime", and that Tehran will come out of it stronger. 

This represents a notable shift in the tone of the public Saudi position, which emphasized de-escalation, opposition to the broader war, and refused to allow the United States to use Saudi airspace or land to strike against Iran.

Exit of Peter Obi: A Litmus Test for the Labour Party (LP)

The exit of Peter Obi from the Labour Party represents a defining moment; a litmus test  in the struggle of labour and the broader Left to chart a new course in the political emancipation of Nigeria’s subjugated workforce.

There is no doubt that workers constitute the bulk of the voting population. It is only through genuine identification with their material conditions, struggles, and aspirations that political forces can alter the direction of public policy in favour of the working class.

In the last general election, the Labour Party ,  like the Psalmist’s rejected cornerstone , suddenly rose to national political relevance. In a dramatic and unexpected leap, it emerged as a major force in the presidential and federal legislative elections, securing a strong third position.

This political surge was attributed to several factors, though certainly not to the strength of the labour movement itself. While some observers pointed to emotional and sentimental mobilization, often framed around ethnic and religious sentiments, others argued that the party’s success was largely driven by the personality and popularity of its presidential candidate, whose political stature overshadowed the party structure.

Both interpretations may contain elements of truth. However, one fact remains undeniable: Peter Obi contested under the banner of the Labour Party,  a party historically established through the efforts of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and other labour organizations.

Looking ahead, what is required is not nostalgia, sentiment, or personality politics, but the emergence of a genuinely ideological Labour Party; one that is consciously rooted in Leftist principles, class consciousness, and social justice.

Such a party must be:

* Ideologically driven, not personality-centered

* 

Structurally grounded in the Left, with a clear political philosophy

* Cadre-based, built around disciplined, politically educated organizers

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and affiliated labour bodies must form the institutional backbone of this project, providing leadership, structure, and legitimacy at all levels: from branch and ward structures to state and national leadership.

The Labour Party must undergo serious reorganization -  rebuilding its ranks, reactivating its structures, and deploying its cadres into every community, ward, and constituency across the country to mobilize genuine grassroots support.

Only through this process can a true workers’ party emerge,  not merely a platform for electoral contests, but a political movement capable of transforming power relations and advancing the historic struggle for social, economic, and political justice in Nigeria.

This moment is not just about Peter Obi’s exit.

It is about whether the Labour Party will remain an electoral vehicle, or become a revolutionary instrument of working-class emancipation.

The Oyo State Labour Party under the leadership of Sir Dele Abiola has praised the Abuja Court Judgement that affirmed the position of the Supreme Court Judgement of April 4th 2024 that sacked Julius Abure and affirmed the leadership of the Senator Nenadi Esther Usman led Interim National Working Committee of the party.

Oyo State chapter of the party in a statement by the it's state Publicity Secretary Comrade David Olayiwola Abisoye A.K.A ABISCO  said, the state welcomed the Federal High Court 9 Abuja FCT ruling that affirms Abure's sack and orders the Nigeria's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize Nenadi Usmans as National Chairman of Labour Party (LP) in Line with the Supreme Court Judgement of 4th April 2025

(3). INEC is urged to recognize the Plaintiff as the ONLY VALID representative of the party and accord her all privileges while accepting all processes and correspondence emanating from same pending the conduct of Congresses and National Convention of the party. 

Abure led impostor have before this judgement done an immense damages to the labour Party. It is now the works of the affirmed leadership to rebuild the party from the scratch going forward to 2027 general elections.

OPINION: ALAAFIN OWOADE AND THE POLITICS OF CHEAP BLACKMAIL

Even President Bola Tinubu is likely to be currently green with envy. The way people are going, the president may order the shut down of the internet in the country, because in the last few weeks, Alaafin and Oyo Empire have edged the president out of focus on social media. Even people writing to criticize the empire or tell how their town or city was never influenced in the history by the Alaafin most times ended up mentioning Alaafin and Oyo Empire more than any other names in their refutal. It is not strange!

During the time of Alaafin Adeyemi 111, those who wanted to capitalize on certain event of party politics in the first republic to disparage the stool met more than their match in Alaafin Adeyemi. Alaafin Adeyemi was not just an eloquent speaker. He always backed up his claims with established historical records and glaring proofs.

The renewed onslaught against the throne of the Alaafin had started even before Alaafin Owoade assumed throne. If you have been following keenly, mercenary bloggers and paid writers had long stormed the social media, creating a box that suited their own fancy, which the incoming Alaafin must necessarily fit himself into, even if it doesn't reflect the royal status of his forbears in any way. Since the incoming king was young in age, they must have recorned he would easily be bullied by social media posts ( and not history) into accepting the relegation of Alaafin' throne. They were disappointed!

When the new Alaafin rejected their unfitting gown sewn in mischief and instead chose the exalted regalia of his forefathers, he suddenly became arrogant in their eyes. Those who hated the gut of Alaafin Adeyemi suddenly fell in love with how "he was gentle" unlike this one!

"See, he is young, why must be concerned about supremacy?" As if the best thing for him is to watch the throne he's occupying being dishonored and wait till he turns seventy and grows grey hair before he starts protesting the hanky-panky against his stool.

"Haa! What is all this? When he should be building companies and developing his town." Granted that it is part of an Oba's role to rally his people for the creation of jobs and societal developments. It is also a credit if he has the means to do so himself. But that is never the yardstick to measure the historical status of an Oba, and having an investment pushing mindset is not mutually exclusive to knowing the worth of his throne.

And is this not funny? People shake hands everyday. It is a gesture of friendship. The place and position is not important. People shake hands while sitting inside bus. They shake hands even when one of the two is lying on his bed in his hostel. They shake hands even if one is sitting inside his car and the other is standing by the side. It is when a supposed incident of snubbery in which Alaafin even seemed to be on the receiving end occurred that shaking hands while in sitting position suddenly became a taboo, "crude and primitive" according to a certain enlightened journalist and actor! Just imagine what hatred does to mentality!

What is going on now is not an attempt to repel any predominant influence since today's Obas have no constitutional rights to make policy in any state. What is happening is an orchestrated scheme to tramp down on history for self interests. On one hand are those who joined the conspiracy for mere sentimental or chauvinistic reason, and on the other hand are politicians trying to score political points, and using the Obaship thing to impress what they consider to be the largest block of the state population.

Yes, maybe the natives of Oyo take pride in hearing people saying "Ara Oyo lo l'Oba". But disparaging the referred stool of the Alaafin, in the long run does not just translate to humiliating the people of Oyo, if that would make you happy. It translates to uprooting the true meaning of the Obaship institution in Yoruba land. It disconnects that institution from its historical foundation and blots out its essence. It would soon make the Obas' stools look like a mere parallel arrangements to certain political portfolios of modern day democracy if that's what we now want them to be. And soon the younger generation would see a Yoruba Oba and say "look. Is that not Mr Oba coming?"

This is not largely about who emerged as the new Alaafin or any Oba's demeanor. Any discerning eye can see the true picture. This is more of political intrigue against the established history of the Yorubas.

3. Commence aggressive membership drives to welcome all progress-minded citizens of Ogun into our fold.

4. Begin meticulous preparation for the upcoming electoral contests, with a focus on presenting credible candidates and people-oriented manifestos to the good people of Ogun State.

The Ogun State Labour Party, under the guidance of the affirmed national leadership, is now poised more than ever to offer a viable, credible, and people-focused alternative to the electorate. Statement from the Labour Party: Today's Judgement Is a Victory For Democracy And Rules Of Law

The Labour Party has received with profound joy and relief the judgment of the Federal High Court, which ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately recognise Senator Nenadi Usman’s leadership as the only valid, authentic, and legitimate leadership of the Labour Party.

The party notes that today’s judgment represents a victory for democracy, for the Labour Party, and for the Nigerian people, and not a personal victory for Senator Nenadi Usman nor for any individual officer of the party.

Although the journey to this point was protracted, difficult, and at times turbulent, the Labour Party urges its members and supporters not to celebrate with triumphalism. Rather, this moment should be embraced as a solemn opportunity for genuine reconciliation. For us, it is a no victor, no vanquished moment. Let it be clearly stated: there is only one united and indivisible Labour Party in Nigeria. This judgment must mark a new beginning anchored on unity, healing, and collective progress.

Accordingly, the Labour Party calls on all members who may feel aggrieved by the current state of affairs - including those against whom today’s judgment was delivered - to sheathe their swords and embrace dialogue in the supreme interest of the party.

The party extends an olive branch to all contending tendencies within its fold. We sue for peace, plead for dialogue, and seek sincere reconciliation. There is enormous work ahead in rebuilding the Labour Party into a strong, credible, and virile opposition platform in Nigeria, a task that can only be accomplished in an atmosphere of unity, cohesion, and mutual respect.

In furtherance of this commitment to peace and reconciliation, the party shall immediately constitute a Truce and Reconciliation Committee mandated to engage all aggrieved members and restore lasting harmony within the party.

Furthermore, as a law-abiding institution and a major stakeholder in Nigeria’s democratic process, the Labour Party calls on INEC to end all unnecessary distractions by fully complying with today’s judgment and according Senator Nenadi Usman’s leadership the formal recognition clearly and unambiguously directed by the court.

In an emotional  outburst during a live radio interview, Apagun Olaolu Samuel, the Chairman of the Ogun State Labour Party, made a passionate appeal to the incumbent government and the ruling party, urging them to "let Labour Party breathe." His remarks highlighted the increasing pressure the party has faced, describing it as a relentless tightening of an executional's noose aimed at stifling life out of the party.

Samuel expressed deep concern over what he characterized as deliberate attempts by the ruling party to undermine the Labour Party's influence across the states as they were dazed by her performance during the last general elections which have now become their nightmare. He revealed that there are efforts to implant individuals within the party as moles, with the intention of subverting its activities and weakening its unity. "They have implanted moles within our ranks and files, trying to supplant us from within, and we cannot stand idly by while our party is being strangulated," he declared.

The Chairman's heartfelt plea comes amidst a charged political atmosphere, where the Labour Party is navigating through internal and external challenges, unending multiple court cases from all fronts and failure of the INEC, the federal government agency in charge of political party's and elections management to adhere by the Supreme Court judgement as they still kept the name of Abure and his cohorts on their portal despite the fact that the court had severally made a verdict that Abure tenure lapsed since June 8th 2024. Samuel emphasized the need for a fair political environment, free from intimidation and subterfuge, to allow the party to fulfill its mission of representing the interests of the marginalized and advocating for social justice. He asserted that if there is nothing underneath, s fire outbreak cannot go beyond the river.

Samuel’s interview resonated with supporters and party members, who rallied behind his call for solidarity and resilience in the face of adversity. "We will not be silenced, and we will continue to fight for our place in Ogun State's political landscape, and Nigeria at large," he asserted.

Labour Party Crises Laid to Rest As Federal High Court Removes Julius Abure, Affirms Nenadi Esther Usman Leadership

 The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Wednesday laid to a total rest as the court removed Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission to recognise the Senator Esther Nenadi Usman–led executive of the party.

Justice Justice Peter Lifu delivering his ruling on Wednesday, relied on the April 4, 2025, decision of the Supreme Court to affirm Nenadi, a former Minister of Finance, as the legitimate leader of the labour party in Nigeria.

In his Judgement, Peter Lifu ordered the Nigeria's Electoral umpire Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to henceforth and immediately recognise the Nenadi-led Caretaker Committee as “the only valid authority to represent the Labour Party,” pending the conduct of a national convention.

The ruling followed a suit marked THC/ABJ/CS/2262/2025, filed by Nenadi. Julius Abure and the Nigerian Labour Congress were listed as defendants.

Justice Lifu held that evidence before the court showed that Abure’s tenure as national chairman had expired.

The judgement dismissed Abure’s argument that the matter was an internal party affair and therefore non-justiciable, ruling instead that the establishment of the caretaker committee was “a necessity” arising from the Supreme Court’s decision.

The judge recalled that the Labour Party’s National Executive Committee had earlier removed Abure following a leadership crisis within the party. A 29-member caretaker committee was subsequently constituted, with Nenadi appointed as chairperson.

That decision followed an expanded stakeholders’ meeting held in Umuahia, Abia State, and hosted by Governor Alex Otti. The meeting was chaired by the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, a former ally of Abure.

Abure, dissatisfied with his removal, had approached the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking validation of his position as national chairman. In an affidavit supporting suit FHC/ABJ/CS/1271/2024, he claimed he was lawfully elected Acting National Chairman at a NEC meeting in Benin City on March 29, 2021, following the death of the party’s substantive chairman.

He further told the court that at a NEC meeting held in Asaba on April 18, 2023, and monitored by INEC, the party renewed the tenures of state chairmen, expelled members accused of anti-party activities, and filled resulting vacancies.

Abure also said the party held its national convention on March 27, 2024, in Nnewi, Anambra State, where he was elected National Chairman, adding that the party under his leadership produced candidates for the Edo and Ondo governorship elections.

Although both the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal initially ruled in Abure’s favour and ordered INEC to recognise him, the Supreme Court later overturned those decisions.

In a lead judgment prepared by Justice Inyang Okoro, the apex court allowed the appeal filed by Nenadi and the committee’s secretary, Hon. Darlington Nwokocha, while dismissing Abure’s cross-appeal.

The Supreme Court also urged political parties to adhere strictly to their constitutions in appointing officers and advised officials whose tenures had expired to vacate office accordingly.

Whenever there are thoughts of traits, leaders typically exhibit what

come to minds of many people including strength, charisma, enthusiasm,

and vision.

 One important component is often overlooked, which is humility.

There had been talks about the power of persuasion and this

over-the-top self-confidence in leaders, which is a very top-down

style oalaaf leadership.

People are increasingly competitive, attention-seeking, arrogance,

over-confidence, entitlement ,a perpetual focus on the self, and

narcissistic, obsessed with their appearance and entitled.

The essence of humility is recognizing your own limitations and place in the world without diminished self-worth, focusing outward, and valuing others; it's about thinking of yourself less, not thinking less of yourself, manifesting as openness, deep listening, acknowledging imperfection, and a willingness to learn and grow, contrasting with prideful self-importance. 

It's a quiet strength that fosters connection and collaboration by seeing shared humanity and appreciating wisdom from all sources.

 Recognising one’s limitations and interdependence fosters a humble approach to life.

All religions emphasise humility in both behaviour and belief, as they highlight the importance of responding with humility and kindness, even in the face of adversity.

They place  high value on humility, as humility is seen as a necessary attribute for spiritual growth and ethical living.

What is more, kindness is sometimes perceived as weakness in a world that often rewards aggression and self-interest. However, true strength lies in the ability to be kind and compassionate despite the potential for exploitation.

In reflecting on these , it becomes clear that humility is a universal value, celebrated across various religious and philosophical traditions. It is about recognising our interconnectedness and the value of others, regardless of our own status or success. 

To the Alaafin , Paramount Ruler of Oyo Kingdom and the Superior Head of Yorubaland, Oba Engineer Akeem Abimbola Owoade 1, humility is,  ""the highest virtue, the mother of them all"".

Oba  Owoade is  humble to a fault, as he does not only respect and give courtesy to others, give himself  that same courtesy and respect in return, assertive, not aggressive, self-confident  but never at the expense of others, and  give to others what they would essentially like to give to themselves.

Oba Owoade is open and receptive to alternate perspectives and ideas,  and does not put on an act to try to live up to lofty standards and expectations.

 As a result, Alaafin experiences less stress and anxiety, but always open to learning from every experience.

The Paramount Ruler puts others on a pedestal before himself, and this is not because they are inferior, weak-minded or lacking in self-esteem, but rather because he clearly understands that by raising others helps build their confidence.

These virtues of the Foremost  King of Yoruba nation are still being appreciated during his thank you visits to virtually prominent Yoruba Obas who attended his colourful coronation ceremony , and also to extend hands of unity, mutual co existence and love to the royal fathers for the much needed peace and development which had long been eluding the Yoruba nation. 

These steps clearly portrayed the Alaafin as an inspirational FATHER, who clearly understands how to play each role for the greater benefits of the traditional institutions in Yoruba land.

 Alaafin not only have a zest and appreciation for life, appreciate the smallest of things that others typically take for granted, and Is intensely focused on serving the greater good of others, Oba Owoade is always keenly aware of people’s desire, wants and needs.

Oba Owoade is of the conviction that "" unity holds the essential vision that we are one living, interconnected ecosystem—a living Earth that supports and nourishes all of its inhabitants. If we acknowledge and honor this simple reality, we can begin to participate in the vital work of healing our fractured and divisive world and embrace a consciousness of oneness that is our human heritage. This is the opportunity that is being offered to us, even as its dark twin is constellating the dynamics of nationalism, tribalism, isolationism, and all the other regressive forces that express ‘me’ rather than ‘we.’"

As a result, he listens intently when others are talking, and seek first to understand before jumping to any wayward conclusions.

As we navigate the complexities of success and human interactions, embodying humility can lead to more meaningful and respectful relationships, fostering a world where power and kindness coexist harmoniously.
