Footage: CIA Chief in a High-Level Backchannel Visit to Moscow Alongside Vatican Officials

The CIA personnel in Moscow alongside Vatican officials is raising concerns.

What’s brewing behind the scenes? Something significant may be unfolding as CIA Director John Ratcliffe made a rare, unannounced visit to Moscow on August 25, 2026, meeting with Russian intelligence counterparts at Vnukovo Airport. The secretive trip—which bypassed a meeting with Vladimir Putin—prompted Washington to ask Ukraine for a brief localized halt on regional drone strikes

CIA Director John Ratcliffe of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) travelled to Moscow for unannounced talks, the BBC's US news partner CBS has reported.

He made a rare, unannounced visit to Moscow on August 25, 2026, meeting with Russian intelligence counterparts at Vnukovo Airport.

Neither Washington or Moscow have confirmed the nature of the visit or who he was due to meet.

According to a report, the secretive trip—which bypassed a meeting with Vladimir Putin—prompted Washington to ask Ukraine for a brief localized halt on regional drone strikes.

A U.S. military aircraft transported the CIA delegation to Moscow's Vnukovo airport on Tuesday, August 25, before departing later that day.

Ratcliffe held discussions with Russian security and intelligence officials, marking a rare high-level physical presence of a U.S. spy chief in the Russian capital.

U.S. officials requested that Ukraine temporarily suspend air strikes targeting Moscow, St. Petersburg, and select northern zones while the delegation was in transit.

Flight tracking data confirmed a large US military aircraft travelled to Russia from the US via Latvia on Tuesday. It departed later on Tuesday.

Footage posted on social media showed the C-17 transport plane approaching Moscow's Vnukovo international airport.

It departed Riga airport at 05:50 GMT and appeared to have landed in the Russian capital at around 07:04 GMT, according to data from FlightRadar24. It returned to Riga shortly before 17:00 GMT.

CHINA CALLS OUT US 'SANCTION CAMPAIGN' TO ISOLATE IRAN, NOT THE SOLUTION

CHINA CALLS OUT US 'SANCTION CAMPAIGN' TO ISOLATE IRAN, NOT THE SOLUTION

Urges Trump admin to 'TAKE RESPONSIBLE MEASURES' & solve issues DIPLOMATICALLY

China has on Thursday condemned what it calls Washington’s “pressure tactics” after Trump threatened “draconian sanctions” against countries and entities cooperating with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Beijing says sanctions and pressure “are not the solution” and is calling on all sides to “act responsibly” and stick to a political and diplomatic approach.

Tehran remains at the center of this tug of war between Washington and Beijing as the US President Donald Trump declared economic war on anyone keeping Iran alive.

Trump's “Economic D-Day” is an attempt to financially isolate Iran on a scale Washington says has never been attempted before and Treasury Sec. Bessent made the objective brutally clear, to cripple and collapse the Iranian regime.

That means targeting not just Iran, but the countries, banks and businesses that continue trading with it which brings Washington directly into collision with Beijing.

China is buying the overwhelming majority of Iran's shipped oil.

So if Trump genuinely intends to economically strangle Tehran, eventually he has to answer the question everyone is asking: What happens when China refuses to stop?

He faces two choices:

Don't enforce the sanctions aggressively against China, and Tehran retains the economic lifeline Washington is trying to sever. Enforce them, and what began as an economic war against Iran starts becoming an economic confrontation with the world's second-largest economy.

And China isn't Iran.

Beijing has economic weapons of its own: Rare earths, manufacturing, critical supply chains, and, crucially, an alternative financial architecture it's spent years developing precisely because it never wanted Washington to possess a permanent veto over Chinese commerce.

That's the part of this story that could become far more consequential than whatever happens in the Strait of Hormuz.

America's greatest economic weapon isn't an aircraft carrier, it's the dollar. Access to the dollar system gives Washington an extraordinary ability to punish governments, banks and companies almost anywhere on Earth.

But that power only remains overwhelming for as long as the rest of the world has no viable alternative.

Every time Washington weaponises it, it creates another incentive to build one. And Trump is now threatening to demonstrate that vulnerability on an enormous scale.

China doesn't need to overthrow the dollar tomorrow; it just needs enough infrastructure to continue trading when Washington says: Stop, or else.

And once that infrastructure exists, other countries gain access to the same insurance policy.

Trump's war on Iran exposed the limits of American military power. His economic war may be about to expose the limits of America's financial power too.

Various economic terrorism and sanctions by Washington against Tehran in the past decades have failed blatantly. The US military might also failed to compel and force  Iran obedient.

Iranian leaders have variously stated that they will not surrender until Trump bowled to their demands as the Strait of Hormuz remains a tangible weapon to force Washington to concede.

Iran on Thursday warned US warships to withdraw from the Strait of Hormuz region, stating that military action would be taken if they advanced further.

Tensions between Iran and the US regarding Hormuz are indeed very high; however, there have not been an independent confirmation of the claim that "warships would be sunk."

In essence, Iran is warning the US that advancing into its maritime territory or the Strait of Hormuz could lead to a confrontation.

The earlier report was that the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln, which has been deployed for nine months in the Middle East is heading home to California on Thursday, weeks after reports first emerged of tough conditions for sailors on board.

Russia calls on US to stop occupying Syria, Israel to end attacks

Moscow has called on Washington to stop occupying Syria territory and Israel to end attacks in the Arab Nation.
Vasily Nebenzia who is the Russia’s permanent representative to the United Nations made the call on the United States to end the occupation of Syria and return oil fields to the government.

He also called on Israel to stop airstrikes on the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic.

Nebenzia said these during the UN Security Council session drawing the attention of members of the United Nations and the Security Council to reports of the Western press about a widespread environmental catastrophe that threatens northeastern Syria and Iraq because of the barbaric methods of extracting oil in the fields that the United States claims to defend.” .

“We repeat our call to the United States of America to immediately end its occupation of Syria and return its national resources to a government that is able to protect the environment.”

According to the Russian diploma, Syria is losing about $40 million in revenue every month.

“We reiterate our call to Israel to stop airstrikes on Syrian lands, and to end the foreign occupation of Syria, as well as attempts to dismantle Syria into parts.”

Nebenzia stressed the need to solve the internal problems of Syria through a comprehensive and wide dialogue.

About 90 percent of Syrian oil production is concentrated on the eastern bank of the Euphrates, which was previously the main source of terrorist income for the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh).

We are watching all of your activities, you will be defeated, Iranian Defense Chief warns US

We are watching all of your activities, you will be defeated, Iranian Defense Chief warns US

Iranian Defense Minister Amir Hatami said that the Persian's armed forces are monitoring all U.S. activities against Islamic Republic at various political, economic and social levels.

In a statement made during his visit to the home of former Defense Minister Major General Musa Namjo, Hatimi pointed out that “American anti-Iranian activities at various political, economic and social levels aim to break the resistance of the people and destabilises the security of the country, but the U.S. will be defeated by the Iranian people this time.

It happened in previous times,” he said. The Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran will monitor and respond to any despicable and malicious move of the United States strongly.

His remarks was concurrent with the commemoration ceremony of 40th anniversary of the Sacred Defense (Iraqi imposed war against Iran in 1980-1988).

“Americans will certainly be defeated by the great nation of Islamic Iran like previous years and the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, under the wise leadership of the Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, will respond to any malicious movement of the enemy authoritatively and strongly.”

According to Mehr Agency: “The Iranian armed forces are working according to the directives of the Leader of the Revolution, Imam Khamenei, in strengthening its capabilities and defending the people and the country and consciously monitoring all the activities of the desperate enemies and resolutely responding to them,” he said.

Shortly after the Iranian Islamic Revolution in 1979 , Tehran and Washington cut diplomatic ties after the U.S. embassy in Tehran was seized and 55 people were kept hostage for 444 days.

Hostility between Tehran and Washington has grown since U.S. President Donald Trump withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal in 2018 and imposed more severe sanctions on Iran that paralysed its economy.

Tehran responded by gradually reducing its obligations under the agreement signed in 2015.

The hostility reached unprecedented levels in early January when the Iranian military commander, Major-General Qassem Soleimani, was assassinated in a U.S. drone strike as ordered by US President.

Iran responded on January 9 by firing several missiles at two bases in Iraq that host American and NATO coalition forces.

Other signatories countries to the Iranian nuclear deal have severally affirmed their  pleaded and supports for the deal.
