Labour Party BOT: Unilateral actions of Seyi Showunmi in the Southwest must be Checked - Ogun State LP Chairman

Labour Party BOT: Unilateral actions of Seyi Showunmi in the Southwest must be Checked - Ogun State LP Chairman

Apagun Olaolu Samuel

Ogun State interim Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) Apagun Olaolu Samuel has called on the Labour Party Board Of Trustees to checkmate the unilateral activities of the Honourable representing Ojo Federal Constituency of LAGOS STATE Seyi Sowunmi in the South West.

According to the letter addressed to the Secretary of the BOT and made available to the media , with the exception of Ogun State which has been an integral part of NWC if the party from the beginning, Seyi Sowunmi has been unilaterally nominating members of the interim national working committee for the Southwest without proper consultation.

It's noteworthy to add that in another petition to the Nenadi Usman Led National Working Committee of the party by the Oyo State Stakeholders of the LP,  Sowunmi has also been accused of trying to supplanted the authentic Labour Party structures in some states  to set up his own State Working Committee for  the Labour Party.

With individuals of questionable intents like Seyi Sowunmi, the party may only be moving from one crises to the other.

*Petition Against Hon. Seyi Showunmi’s Unilateral Actions in the Southwest Region*

Dear Sir,

I am writing to formally express my concerns regarding the unilateral political activities of Hon. Seyi Showunmi within the Southwest region. It has come to my attention that he has been nominating members of the interim national working committee for the Southwest without proper consultation, with the exception of Ogun State, which has been an integral part of our party from the beginning.

Furthermore, it is alarming that he is also presenting nominations for the state working committees without engaging with key stakeholders and local party members. He claims to represent the Southwest leadership of the Labour Party, yet his actions suggest a self-serving agenda which undermines our democratic principles.

His antecedents in Lagos are also a clear example of his undemocratic tendencies.

If these actions continue unchecked, we risk creating a similar situation to that of Abayomi Arabambi, wherein one individual manipulates the party framework to benefit personal interests rather than those of all party members throughout the region. It is crucial to note that Hon. Showunmi’s jurisdiction is limited primarily to his role as a House of Representatives member in the OJO Constituency in Lagos. His attempts to exert influence across the Southwest should be scrutinized before he succeeds in destabilizing the Party.

We urge the national body to take immediate action to address these issues and ensure a fair and representative process for all nominations within the Labour Party in the Southwest. It is essential that we uphold the core values of democracy, inclusivity, and collaboration that our party represents.

Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. I look forward to your prompt response.

Yours faithfully,

Press Statement: State Coordinating Council (SCC) of the Oyo State Obidient Movement remained intact

Press Statement: State Coordinating Council (SCC) of the Oyo State Obidient Movement remained intact

"We the appointed state executives of Oyo state Obidient Movement strongly refute claims that Ayo Akinyemi is leading the Obidient Movement in Oyo State. The anchor's decision to recognize him as coordinator in the recent Zoom meeting (2/7/2025) was a grave error.

We hereby clarify that Ayo Akinyemi is an impostor and does not represent the legitimate leadership of the Obidient Movement in Oyo State. After the election, his group shifted allegiance to Abure's leadership, rebranding themselves as *'LabourObidient Movement',* and stood apart from our structure. They only realigned when they saw the poster for the Southwest Conference on our joint platform, but have since struggled to fully commit.

Despite our appointed Excos' repeated invitations to meetings to synergize, they've refused to participate. Following Hon Dele Abiola's appointment to the Advisory Council and later as Oyo State Interim Coordinator, the Akinyemi-led Excos have been attempting to create a parallel structure, opposing his leadership. Notably, they're still working with Oyo LP Chairman Alh Sodiq Atayese, who openly defected/aligned with PDP in the last gubernatorial election. It is also note worthy that they worked for APC Presidential candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu through Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.

Moreover, his speech in the meeting clearly showed he's uninformed about the current state of the Obidient Movement in the state, further disqualifying him from any legitimate leadership role. We urge all members and concerned leaders to disregard his claims and any directives emanating from him."

The approved State Coordinating Council (SCC) of the Oyo State Obidient Movement remained intact.

Oyo State Obidient Movement: Imposition of leadership through back door cannot stand, Tanko, Showunmi should tread with care — Sir Dele Abiola

Neither Hon seyi Showunmi who is the current South West Coirdunator nor Dr Yunusa Tanko are from Oyo State nor have they contested, nor will they contest for any elective positions in Oyo State. Imposing Agents of Barrister Julius Abure and Sodiq Olatunji through any back door in the Oyo State Obidient Movement can not work.

We in Oyo State Obidient Movement are the ones who faced and experienced the evils of their betrayals and sell out before, during and After the 2023 elections in Oyo State. The reports to this effects is with Seyi Sowunmu

The same set of people Dr. Yunusa Tanko and Seyi Sowunmu are trying to install again did the same in manoeuvering those who were in charge of the movement preior 2023 elections where they sold out.

H.E peter Obi can not claimed to be unaware of the betrayals of both the Labour party leadership and LP Obidient Movement leadership in Oyo State.

Our positions in Oyo State Obidient Movement are simply, Going forward to 2027 elections :

1. Those who are in charge of the movement perior 2023 elections can no longer lead us

2. The structures we are revamping can not be placed under anyone of them

3. The stressful efforts without results like 2023 outing with the same set of people can't be tried again

4. Anyone that has nothing at stake to loose can't be allowed to lead Oyo State Obidient Movement going forward to 2023. The Jeje -Ayo Akinyemi group have nothing to loose but only to gain as they traded the movement fir personal gains in 2023.

5. They were not the ones original in charged of the movement in 2023, but through blackmails and support of the Party chairman took over the movement and only reaped from the efforts of others With RESULTS.

6. That Neither Tanko nor Sowunmu can imposed any leadership on OYO OBIDIENT MOVEMENT.

7. That the recommended and Approved names of the Oyo State Coordinating Council remained Valid and authentic leadership to be reckoned with.
