The Dangerous Cycle Of Impunity: How Nigeria’s Leaders Are Nurturing A Culture Of Impunity

The Dangerous Cycle Of Impunity: How Nigeria’s Leaders Are Nurturing A Culture Of Impunity

By Buhari Olanrewaju Ahmed

As President Tinubu continues to set troubling precedents by granting pardons to individuals accused or convicted of serious crimes such as murder and drug trafficking, a dangerous message is being sent to the nation. By normalising impunity at the highest levels, Nigeria risks creating a political environment where those with questionable pasts may one day rise to positions of power and leadership.

When convicted criminals are absolved of their wrongdoing through political influence, it erodes public trust in the justice system and undermines the rule of law.

It is deeply disheartening and regrettable that Nigeria has reached a point where justice appears selective—where some individuals, despite being found guilty of heinous crimes, are freed due to their political connections, while others, like Nnamdi Kanu, remain detained despite court rulings declaring them not guilty.

Such double standards expose the deep moral and institutional decay within the system and raise serious questions about fairness, accountability, and equality before the law.

The government’s approach to negotiating with terrorists, rehabilitating them, and reintegrating them into society—despite the destruction, kidnappings, and killings they have caused—further worsens the situation. It sends a demoralising signal to victims and law-abiding citizens that crime pays, while lawful dissent or peaceful activism is treated as treason.

A government that pardons murderers and drug traffickers while keeping political prisoners behind bars cannot genuinely claim to be committed to justice or national security.

This reality calls for sober reflection. Citizens must understand that leadership choices have far-reaching consequences. Electing individuals without integrity, compassion, or a sense of justice ultimately leads to moral collapse and national instability. When those in power disregard the sanctity of human life and the principles of justice, they weaken the very foundation of governance.

My advice is that no one should ever be unjustly killed, harmed, or condemned under such a system. The same government that pardons killers and drug lords today could one day protect the very people responsible for violence and suffering tomorrow.

This is a grim reminder of what happens when voters choose leaders based on propaganda, ethnic sentiment, or personal gain rather than character and competence.

Only divine intervention can rescue Nigeria from the calamities that lie ahead if the nation continues on this dangerous path of rewarding crime and punishing truth.

Tinubu granted sweeping clemency and posthumous pardons to a total of 147 convicts, inmates and deceased Nigerians, including Maryam Sanda, Ken Saro-Wiwa, Sir Herbert Macaulay, Major General Mamman Vatsa, Professor Magaji Garba, and dozens of illegal miners, drug convicts, and white-collar offenders.

APC government since its inception in 2015 has been a terrorist and criminal friendly government .

APC Government Owned the Terrorists: Nigerian Troops Rescue More Kidnapped Victims, Continue Onslaught Against Bandits in Kwara State

APC Government Owned the Terrorists: Nigerian Troops Rescue More Kidnapped Victims, Continue Onslaught Against Bandits in Kwara State

The Nigerian Army has said it's Troops of 2 Division/Sector 3, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have sustained aggressive operations against bandits in Kwara State, leading to the successful rescue of three kidnapped victims at different locations within the Babanla Forest on Saturday, 11 October 2025.

According to the statement made available to the general public, acting on credible intelligence, troops deployed at the Patrol Base Babanla swiftly mobilised to a suspected bandit hideout and rescued Mrs Oluwabusayo Taiwo, aged 25, and her 3 years old son, Taiwo Irayomide, who were among the victims abducted at Oke-Ode on 28 September 2025.

The rescued victims are currently receiving first aid treatment at the Patrol Base sick bay and will be reunited with their family members in due course.

Also the troops while on routine patrol along a suspected bandit route, also rescued Mr Mohammadu Sani, known as Mai Shayi,* a 40 years old local tea seller from Garkarima. The bandits fled upon sighting the patrol team, abandoning the victim, who was found in a pool of blood. Troops recovered one dane gun and a cutlass from the scene. The victim is currently receiving medical attention at the Patrol Base sick bay.

The Commander, 22 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, commended the troops for their swift response and professionalism, while reaffirming that the Nigerian Army will remain committed towards ensuring the safety and security of all citizens and will continue to intensify operations aimed at restoring peace and stability across Kwara State and its environs

It is on records that insecurities in Nigeria have been aggravated since enthronement of APC leadership in 2015. Beyond Boko Haram terrorism, the country has graduated to multiple non state actors terrorism by bandits , kidnapping for ransoms and Fulani herdsmen killing the defenseless and helpless citizens while the Tinubu led APC gangs keeps imposing taxes, devalued national currency, reduced the purchasing power of the people and keeps the country permanently as the global capital of poverty. The government has also crippled the opposition political parties in the country and silence critics

KWARA SOUTH IS  BLEEDING

Profile picture

APC government came to Power in the year 2015 with empty rhetorics to fight and end Boko Haram terrorism but the party only succeeded in intriduciynore terrorists groups such as the Fulani herdsmen, bandits, megsl kidnapping for ransom and the current group unleashing terrors in the North Central of the country.

APC government has failed in the primary responsibilities of governance, protection of lives and properties but Tinubu led APC gangs only knows how to collect taxes, reduced the purchasing power of the citizens, sharing abject poverty for greater numbers of people.

It is the constitutional duty of the President to protect lives and property — not to multiply taxes while citizens are fleeing their hometowns.

You cannot build national prosperity on insecurity.

When people abandon their homes, farmlands, and local economies out of fear, the foundation of governance collapses.

Security is not just a moral duty — it is the economic backbone of every stable nation.

How do you tax a farmer who can’t access his land?

How do you expect productivity from a citizen who sleeps in fear?

Every displaced family represents a shrinking economy — a town losing its workforce, a market losing its buyers, and a government losing its legitimacy.

Yet in this country, the death of Nigerians has become just another statistic — names reduced to numbers, headlines recycled like weather reports.

We mourn for a day, move on by tomorrow, and the government calls it “progress.”

Leadership without security is taxation without humanity.

While the government focuses on new levies and economic jargon, the real economy — the people — is dying in silence.

And those joining this administration to tell us it’s making progress are the worst kind of humans —

soulless defenders of failure.

They are like the Uruk-hai from The Lord of the Rings — bred for destruction, loyal only to evil, and blind to the ruin they serve.

To worsen it, they travel across the world gaslighting citizens —

telling the international community that there is no corruption back home,

while the nation they left behind bleeds from the wounds of theft, lies, and silence.

And the saddest part?

Many of you think you’re supporting your party while all this evil is taking place.

You defend the same system that is destroying your future,

clap for oppressors who wouldn’t spend a second living your reality,

and mock those who still dare to speak.

You cannot measure GDP when the ground itself is unsafe.

Until lives are protected, every new tax is blood money collected from the displaced and forgotten.

A serious government protects first, reforms next, and taxes last.

But in today’s Nigeria, the order is reversed — we are being taxed for a nation we can no longer live in.

Bandits on Rampage In Kwara State, Kill One, Abduct Stepbrother In Fresh Attack In Gbale Community, Face Resistance From Locals

Bandits on Rampage In Kwara State, Kill One, Abduct Stepbrother In Fresh Attack In Gbale Community, Face Resistance From Locals

Armed bandits were reportedly on Rampage in renewed wave of attacks across Kwara’s riverine and forested communities, many of which have faced repeated kidnappings and killings in recent months.

According to the reports on Thursday, Bandits again struck Edu Local Government Area in Kwara State, killing one person and abducting another during an early-morning raid in Gbale community. Different eyewitnesses accounts confirmed that the attackers arrived around 2:00 a.m. but were met with fierce resistance from local hunters and vigilantes, who engaged them with superior firepower.

Overwhelmed, the gunmen retreated toward Bishewa settlement. In Bishewa, the assailants launched another assault, killing one of two stepbrothers in their home and abducting the other.

“They killed Ndako, the elder brother, and took the younger one, Audu, away,” a source told reporters.

The renewed wave of attacks has escalated tension across Kwara’s riverine and forested communities, many of which have faced repeated kidnappings and killings in recent months.

In response, the Nigerian Army has reportedly deployed a full brigade and heavy equipment to Kwara South and parts of Kwara North to flush out bandits from forest hideouts.

According to Rafiu Ajakaye, Chief Press Secretary to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, troops were observed advancing through Oke Ode and Babanla in Ifelodun Local Government Area.

The operation, conducted under Operation Fasan Yanma, also covers the Edu and Patigi councils, where soldiers are combing dense forests frequently used by kidnappers for ransom activities

Gruesome killings in Kogi, Kwara states: leadership must be about protecting lives and property, says Peter Obi

Gruesome killings in Kogi, Kwara states: leadership must be about protecting lives and property, says Peter Obi

Peter Obi

Following the daily increasing bandits attacks and gruesome murder of the Nigerians in different parts of the country, the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections H. E. Peter Obi has said the country's leadership must strive to protect lives and properties in the different parts of the country.

There is no doubt that under the APC leadership and administration of the country since 2015 till date, the country has fair worst than ever. Lives have become short and brutish. The leadership are only concerned about looting and plundering the land's mineral resources illegally without minding who died and who survived.

Peter Obi said: "I am deeply disturbed by the tragic reports of yet another senseless attack in Kogi State’s Yagba West Local Government Area, where over 27 innocent Nigerians were killed by armed bandits. The images are heartbreaking. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and the entire people of Kogi State."

"This comes as reports from neighbouring Kwara state say that nine out of 16 LGs in Kwara state are under bandits’ siege, whoW now demand food and drinks as ransom. The nine LGs in the bandit control include Baruten, Edu, Ekiti, Ifelodun, Isin, Kaiama, Oke-Ero, Patigi, and Irepodun.'

"The security situation is now a national emergency. It is deeply troubling that insecurity has become a normal occurrence in our nation, where our citizens die daily more than in countries at war. This is not normal."

"Our citizens cannot sleep in their own homes in peace, our farmers are being driven away from their lands by bandits, our children are living in fear of being attacked, and our nation continues to bleed. Leadership must be about protecting lives and property, the most basic duty of any government."

"May God grant eternal rest to the victims, comfort to their grieving families, and give wisdom and courage to our leaders to protect every Nigerian life." PO concluded.

How ISWAP Terrorists Execute 3 Nigerian Soldiers in Yobe State

ISWAP has reportedly executed three Nigerian Soldiers in Yobe State.

According to a report, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), a faction of Boko Haram, has released a video depicting the execution of three Nigerian soldiers in Yobe State.

The incident reportedly occurred on March 15, 2025, in the Kamuya and Azare areas of the state.

In the video, the soldiers are seen kneeling in a field, introducing themselves as members of the Nigerian security forces, before masked insurgents fatally shot them.

Since the death of Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau, ISWAP has been consolidating its influence, particularly around the Lake Chad region, with numerous Boko Haram fighters defecting to its ranks. The insurgency has resulted in over 100,000 deaths and displaced millions, primarily in Nigeria's Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe states.

The Nigerian Army has consistently asserted that the insurgency has been largely defeated; however, incidents like this highlight the ongoing challenges in ensuring security and stability in the affected regions.

More also, the nefarious activities of the group have been deliberately underreported.

FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM: NIGERIAN ARMY PARTNERS NIGCOMSAT TO EXPAND FRONTIERS OF COMMUNICATION, BOOST MILITARY OPERATIONS

The Nigerian Army has expressed its willingness to partner with the Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) to enhance its communication capabilities and improve its military operations. The Chief of Army Staff, (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja gave the assurance today, Thursday 16 May 2024, when he received in audience the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited, Mrs Jane Nkechi Egerton-Idereyen and her delegation at the Army Headquarters, Abuja.

According to a statement signed by Major General ONYEMA NWACHUKWU who is the Director Army Public Relations, the Army Chief declared the partnership with NIGCOMSAT is crucial to provide reliable and secure communication services and enable the Nigerian Army (NA) to access a wide range of satellite-based services, including telecommunication, navigation, and surveillance, which will significantly improve its operational efficiency and effectiveness.

The COAS appreciated the vital role of NIGCOMSAT, which he observed, serves as a formidable foundation for NA operations, especially in the North East and North West regions. Gen Lagbaja averred that NA is committed to the Executive Order 5 of President, Commander-in-Chief Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, compelling departments and agencies to patronize made-in-Nigeria goods.

He described NIGCOMSAT products as top-notch and affirmed his desire to expand the frontier of cooperation and partnership that exists between NIGCOMSAT and the NA. The COAS also pledged to partner the Communication Company in the launching of its new satellite into space to improve NA operations.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited, Mrs Jane Nkechi Egerton-Idereyen in her remarks lauded the NA for its service to the nation and pledged to continue to support the NA with requisite technology to tackle security challenges.

She disclosed that NIGCOMSAT intends to launch a satellite into orbit, co-designed and dedicated to the Armed Forces to enhance the military's capabilities and contribute to bolstering military operations, taking into consideration the importance of the services the NA is rendering to the nation.

The NIGCOM boss acknowledged the long standing relations with the NA and the zeal of the NA in tackling security challenges in the country. She noted that the partnership between the duo is expected to have far-reaching implications for the country's military operations and national security as well as leverage satellite technology to drive economic growth and development.

ASO ROCK SOLDIER CAUGHT SELLING AK47 GUNS TO BANDITS AND KIDNAPPERSA

ASO ROCK SOLDIER CAUGHT SELLING AK47 GUNS TO BANDITS AND KIDNAPPERSA

A soldier attached to the Muhamadu Buhari cantonment in Tungan Maje in the FCT has been arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services for allegedly hiring out and selling guns to kidnappers.

He was arrested last week around Dankogi Park in Zuba in collaboration with members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria in the area.

Reports say the soldier hired a gun to the kidnappers for 300,000 in one of the operations and in another instance, he recieved 200,000 for one gun.

Unfortunately for the soldier, the kidnappers were arrested and they mentioned him as their gunrunner.

They contacted him for another deal to supply them with AK 47 rifles to buy at three million naira and he fell for it.    They went to the agreed site in Zuba and took position.

He arrived in his car to present the arm and the security men swoop on him. An AK 47 rifle as well as a fully loaded magazine with 30 rounds of ammunition was found in his car.

How Nigerian Air Force pays terrorists/bandits N20 million to avoid shooting down Buhari’s plane

How Nigerian Air Force pays terrorists/bandits N20 million to avoid shooting down Buhari’s plane

The gun truck with 12.7 caliber anti-aircraft fire was reportedly disassembled and transported back to the military on motorbikes after the deal was concluded.

The Nigerian Air Force coordinated ransom payments to armed bandits in exchange for an anti-aircraft gun seized from the Nigerian Army, The Wall Street Journal said, in a desperate deal that was brokered as President Muhammadu Buhari was planning a trip to Katsina.

The U.S. outlet said N20 million was delivered to the bandits in Rugu Forest by a Nigerian Air Force official, who leaked details of the operation under anonymity, because the military realised that it would be too risky to leave the weapon in the hands of violent criminals operating in an area the presidential jet would fly over.

The rugged, lawless jungle that covers parts of Kaduna, Zamfara and the president’s home state of Katsina has served as a vast haven for bandits terrorising Nigeria’s northwestern communities. A large portion of kidnapping plots emanates or terminates in or around the forest, security agencies have previously warned.

“The mission to buy back the antiaircraft gun began with a handoff from a high-ranking air force intelligence officer in the capital Abuja: a black zip-up bag he said was full of 20 million Nigerian naira,” the paper reported, after stating that such military hardware in the hands of bandits “posed a threat to President Muhammadu Buhari, who had been planning to fly to his hometown about 80 miles away.”

The gun truck with 12.7 caliber anti-aircraft fire was reportedly disassembled and transported back to the military on motorbikes after the deal was concluded.

The Journal did not specify when the deal was brokered or the presidential trip that was planned. The president has been in his hometown at least twice this year that his office disclosed to the public. The first trip was in late January and another in July.

Although the Nigerian government claimed combat victories against armed bandits, several military bases have been sacked by the violent criminals dreaded largely for their abduction of schoolchildren and prominent personalities, including politicians and emirs.

Last month, a forward operating base crucial to the military campaign against banditry was raided in Zamfara, leaving at least 12 officers killed. The bandits also seized military equipment when they captured the base in Dansadau, about 80 kilometres south of the capital Gusau, in the September 11 operation.

Less than two weeks later on September 24, bandits again struck a joint base of security forces in the neighbouring Sokoto State, killing several soldiers, Civil Defence officers and civilians.

The Nigerian Air Force also confirmed on July 19 that bandits had shot down one of its fighter jets, but the pilot was able to eject without and there were no casualties. The incident came as Mr Buhari was visiting his hometown for this year’s Sallah.

It was not immediately clear why service chiefs opted for a ransom payment in the operation described by The Journal. Military weapons that fell into the hands of Boko Haram insurgents and bandits were usually destroyed by airstrikes.

Whereas Mr Buhari has promised to be tough on the bandits and publicly railed against governors negotiating with them, his government has been known to pay ransom to terrorists and other violent criminals.

The government paid millions of dollars to free some of the Chibok girls seized in 2014 under President Goodluck Jonathan. It also facilitated hundreds of millions of naira in ransom to bandits who seized schoolchildren in Niger State earlier this year.

The Gazette has yet to hear back from the Nigerian Air Force about the reported N20 million ransom to bandits.

THE PICTURE: Bandits Attacked NDA - Nigeria has been Hopelessly compromised

THE PICTURE: Bandits Attacked NDA - Nigeria has been Hopelessly compromised

Let me tell you from the outset:

What Nigeria has on its hand at the moment is worse than Afghanistan.

Do you hear me?

Bring your head out of the sand and face up to reality before it's too late.

Let me help you get a clearer picture of what's happening.

In the 90s, I worked at the National War College, Abuja.

As a staff who worked Monday-Friday and known by different personnel that are routinely posted to the entrance, you do not just stroll in like taking a walk in the park.

That was over 25 years ago.

No bandit, no rogue, no criminal will dare to breach the sanctity of that place.

Not even when bombs were going off in the FCT.

Then, Nigeria woke up yesterday to the news that bandits violated the territory of the Nigerian Defence Academy.

Who are those writing the script?

Are they so hopelessly dumb?

Bandits entered the Nigerian Defence Academy, made for the officers quarters, killed some officers, kidnapped one and took him out of the territory, successfully.

And the bandits suffered no casualties.

No bandit was killed.

No bandit was injured.

No bandit was captured.

In fact, there was nothing in any report that the bandits were engaged.

Seriously?

How dumb can a script be?

The officer that was kidnapped and taken out of the Academy happened to be a Major.

A Major!

That's a senior NCO.

Not a Private.

Not a Corporal.

Not a Sergeant.

Not a Staff Sergeant.

Not even a Warrant Officer.

A Major!

A Major was kidnapped right inside the Nigerian Defence Academy and smuggled out successfully without resistance.

No casualties on the side of those we are told exhibited such audacious breach.

Among those killed right in the officers quarters in the territory of the Nigerian Defence Academy is a Squadron Leader.

Squadron Leader!

That's the equivalent of Major in the Air Force.

Who are those writing the script?

Are they this dumb?

How did they arrive at the conclusion that all Nigerians are idiots?

C'mon!

And the conclusion is simple:

Nigeria has been compromised.

Hopelessly compromised.

You may choose to deny it, or take refuge in the brainwash of religion.

*Right this moment, there are thousands of citizens in countless kidnappers camps scattered across the country.*

Among them students, and children that are less than 12 years.

Some have been separated from their families for over three months.

The kidnappers communicate freely with parents and families without fear of any consequence.

Now we are told that they have the audacity to go right inside the Nigerian Defence Academy to kill and kidnap officers.

*And Nigeria still shamelessly proclaim it has security architecture.*

What is worse than Afghanistan is here already.

On one hand, the military is supervising the rehabilitation of "repentant" terrorists.

Terrorists who have slaughtered citizens and military personnel.

*On the other hand, terrorists successfully rechristened as "bandits" are raking in billions of naira from kidnapping, and invading military strongholds as bonus.*

*As compromised as Afghanistan military is suggested to be, it is never on record that they rehabilitated any Taliban.*

Afghanistan is thousands of miles away, but the Taliban is already at the door.

*THAT IS THE PICTURE .*
