PRESS STATEMENT: NIGERIA MUST PROTECT HER PEOPLE: A CALL FOR NATIONAL ACTION, COMPASSION AND SECURITY REFORM

PRESS STATEMENT: NIGERIA MUST PROTECT HER PEOPLE: A CALL FOR NATIONAL ACTION, COMPASSION AND SECURITY REFORM

By The Movement Nigeria (TMN)

Fellow Nigerians,

Today, we gather not as representatives of any political interest, ethnic group, religion or region, but as concerned citizens united by a shared sense of humanity and patriotism.

Our hearts are with every family currently experiencing the pain of insecurity, particularly the parents, teachers and loved ones of the school children and citizens who remain in captivity across different parts of our country.

No nation can truly prosper when its people live in fear.

No parent should send a child to school uncertain of their safety.

No teacher should be forced to choose between educating children and preserving their own life.

No community should live under the constant threat of violence, kidnapping or displacement.

The Movement Nigeria (TMN) is organizing this candlelight gathering in Oyo State as a solemn moment of reflection, solidarity and national responsibility.

We remember every victim.

We stand with every affected family.

We pray for the safe return of every person currently in captivity.

We honor the sacrifices of our security personnel who continue to put their lives on the line daily in defense of our nation.

At this difficult moment, Nigeria does not need more division. Nigeria needs leadership, compassion, courage and practical solutions.

The security challenges confronting our nation were not created overnight, and they will not disappear overnight. However, history shows that countries facing similar threats have successfully restored peace through determined leadership, institutional reforms, community participation and sustained economic development.

Countries such as Colombia significantly reduced insurgency and kidnapping through intelligence-driven operations and coordinated security reforms.

Rwanda rebuilt national security through strong institutions, local vigilance structures and national unity programs.

Indonesia weakened extremist networks through effective intelligence gathering, community engagement and targeted security operations.

Singapore continues to maintain one of the safest societies in the world through efficient policing, technology, strong institutions and strict accountability.

Nigeria can learn from these experiences while developing solutions tailored to our own realities.

*THE AGADA SECURITY FRAMEWORK: SIX PILLARS FOR A SAFER NIGERIA*

*1. Secure Every School Initiative*

Every public and private school in Nigeria should be protected through a coordinated national school security program.

This program should include:

* Dedicated School Protection Units.

* Security technology and emergency alert systems.

* Perimeter protection infrastructure.

* Regular security audits.

* Community-based school safety partnerships.

Schools must remain places of learning, not targets of fear.

*2. Intelligence-Led Security Architecture*

Modern security challenges require modern solutions.

Nigeria must strengthen:

* Intelligence gathering.

* Inter-agency collaboration.

* Real-time information sharing.

* Digital surveillance capabilities.

* Data-driven crime prevention systems.

Successful nations defeat criminal networks not merely with force, but with superior intelligence.

*3. Community Security Partnership*

Security cannot be achieved by government alone.

Every community must become an active partner in safeguarding lives and property.

This requires:

* Community policing structures.

* Local security volunteer networks.

* Traditional institution participation.

* Youth engagement programs.

* Early-warning reporting systems.

Citizens are often the first to notice emerging threats.

*4. Economic Empowerment as a Security Strategy*

Lasting peace requires economic opportunity.

Millions of young Nigerians possess enormous potential but lack access to productive opportunities.

TMN advocates:

* Large-scale agricultural empowerment programs.

* Agro-processing hubs.

* Skills acquisition initiatives.

* Entrepreneurship financing.

* Rural economic development projects.

Every young person productively employed is one less person vulnerable to recruitment into criminal activities.

*5. Border Security and National Sovereignty*

Nigeria must strengthen the protection of its borders through:

* Advanced surveillance technology.

* Border monitoring systems.

* Improved immigration controls.

* Regional security cooperation.

* Enhanced maritime and land border security.

National security begins with effective control of national territory.

*6. Justice, Accountability and Victim Support*

Criminality thrives where accountability is weak.

Nigeria must ensure:

* Swift prosecution of terrorism financiers.

* Stronger anti-money laundering enforcement.

* Protection of witnesses.

* Compensation for victims and affected families.

* Rehabilitation support for rescued victims.

Justice must be visible, fair and effective.

*A NATIONAL CALL*

We call upon all levels of government, security institutions, civil society organizations, traditional rulers, faith leaders, labour unions, professional groups and citizens to work together in confronting insecurity.

The safety of Nigerians must remain above politics.

The protection of lives must remain our highest priority.

The future of our children must remain our greatest responsibility.

We therefore demand every lawful and necessary effort toward securing the immediate and safe release of all persons currently held captive by criminal elements anywhere in Nigeria.

We also call for sustained reforms that address not only the symptoms of insecurity, but its root causes.

Nigeria possesses the resources, the institutions, the talent and the people required to overcome these challenges.

What is required is collective resolve, strategic leadership and national unity.

The Movement Nigeria remains committed to working with labour organizations, professional bodies, educational institutions, community leaders and patriotic Nigerians to develop practical policy solutions capable of restoring security, prosperity and hope to our nation.

Through initiatives such as the Labour Institute, LabourDirect.com and other national development platforms, we will continue to contribute ideas, policies and partnerships aimed at building a safer and more productive Nigeria.

Let this candlelight gathering not only honor the victims of insecurity but also renew our collective determination to build a nation where every citizen can live, learn, work and prosper in peace.

May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

United Nations (UN) Calls For Swift Release Of Kidnapped School Staff, Students In Nigeria

United Nations (UN) Calls For Swift Release Of Kidnapped School Staff, Students In Nigeria

By Ighomuaye Lucky. O

The United Nations (UN) has called for an immediate and quick action to secure the release of students and teachers abducted by armed groups in Nigeria, stressing that schools must be protected as safe environments for learning and development.

The appeal was made in Abuja by Mr. Malick Fall, the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, during a meeting with a delegation from the National Safe Schools Response Coordination Centre led by its Commandant, Dr. Samuel Umanah.

The discussions centered on recent incidents of school abductions, as well as ongoing efforts to support affected families, schools, and communities in Oyo and Borno states.

Fall expressed concern over the ongoing captivity of the victims and strongly condemned the violence, noting that two teachers had already been killed during the incidents.

He further said the attacks highlight the growing risks facing children, teachers, and educational settings across the country.

According to him, protecting children’s right to access education in a secure and dignified setting must remain a national priority.

He urged authorities to fully implement the Minimum Standards for Safe Schools, strengthen emergency response systems, and adopt data-driven strategies to improve school security.

“We are deeply saddened that these school children and their teachers are still being held by armed groups.

“Schools must remain safe havens for learning and not places of fear. Children should never be a target. These incidents underscore the urgent need to strengthen the protection of children, educators and learning spaces”, Fall said.

While acknowledging the efforts of government authorities and security agencies, the UN official urged stronger and more coordinated action to secure the safe and swift release of all abducted students and teachers.

He also urged authorities to ensure that the perpetrators of the attacks are brought to justice and to reinforce measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

Oyo State, Federal Govt Should Liaise For Timely Release Of The School Children And Their Teachers From Captivity— Sir Dele Abiola

Oyo State, Federal Govt Should Liaise For Timely Release Of The School Children And Their Teachers From Captivity— Sir Dele Abiola

Olateju Davidson

Ogbomosho — Sir Dele Abiola on Sunday called on the Oyo State and Federal Government to timely work together for immediate release of the kidnapped School Children and their teachers from the captivity. More than 15 days now that rround 46 school children including infants were kidnapped from Ahoro-Esinele and Yawota in Orire local government of Oyo State.

Speaking to our correspondent, he said the primary reason for the existence of state and government is to ensure Security of lives and properties of the people.

"The essence of Governance is to ensure Security of lives and properties of the citizens."

"Provide essential services. The Nigerian government failed in all fronts"

"No any essential service, no security of lives and properties. Only an endless exploitation and taxing of the already impoverished population."

Sir Dele Abiola who recently resigned as the chairman of the Oyo State Labour Party said, "Insecurity has become the business of the pro terrorists political elites. Nigerians must brace up for the worst and be ready to confront evil and pro terrorists leadership that's causing death and displacement, using insecurity to exploring more of our common mineral resources."

"At least, they should consider the pains these infants in the forest are going through as well as the level of anxieties that their parents are passing through too and act decisively."

"Nigeria State is down already. Their are compromises both at the levels of political class and security apparatus."

"The resultant effects of insecurity in terms of banditary , terrorism and kidnapping are glaring for all to see. We have been seeing effects of insecurity on our economy. Nigerians are groaning for pain because farm products are too expensive in the market as of today."

Sir Dele Abiola

The farmers can not dare going to farms, And as a result, in all Nigerian markets, pepper, onion, tomatoes, palm-oil, maize, groundnut, yam, beans, plantain, melon and other farm produce are extra ordinarily expensive."

Bandits, terrorists and Fulani herdsmen are creating fear.

 Kidnapping, cattle rustling and mass killings or abduction in many parts of the country are endangering our economy. In Adamawa, Benue, Plateau and Nasarawa States, farmers are relocating to nearby cities just to run away for their life. Most of them have abandoned their farm and left their villages to the cities. In Kwara State, many towns and communities are deserted by the islamist terrorists.

From Savannah, across the River Niger, the terrorists have been coming to South West.

They attacked two villages, Ahoro-Esinele and Yawota in Orire local government of Oyo State. Most of the villagers have already left those villages, even the nearby villages are also leaving their farm and run to cities for safety.

"The unfortunate point here is that the government both at the State and Federal are playing politics with the lives of the innocent underage children and their teachers."

This is what is happening all over Nigeria, this is affecting general well-being of Nigerians. Foods are cost, there is massive job loss, it's also affecting our micro and macro economics.

"As the APC Government has been treating terrorists with hand gloves since 2015, failing to act fast to curb the issue of insecurity, the citizens must also at this point speak up and call this leadership to accountability." He concluded.

American Donald J. Trump slams Nigeria's Pro-terrorists President Tinubu over his UK trip in the midst of terror attacks in Nigeria

American President Donald Trump has slammed the Nigeria's pro terrorists President Bola Hamed Tinubu over his UK trip in the midst of terror attacks in Nigeria.

APC led terrorists regime since 2015 till date both under Major General Muhammadu Buhari and his successor Tinubu have demonstrated to the whole wide world that they are less concerned about the Nigerians lives and their properties.

Donald Trump' said: “The situation in Nigeria is a TOTAL D!SASTER. Massive, coordinated suicide bombings tonight in Maiduguri. A hospital, a major market, the post office—all h!t! Many innocent people killed.

This is what happens when you have NO LEADERSHIP and open borders for terrorrists! While his country is in a state of NATIONAL EMERGENCY, President Tinubu is currently in the UK on a "State Visit."

Unbelievable! Shaking hands and having fancy dinners while his people are being blown up? I don't think so! Prime Minister Starmer should tell him to get on a plane and GO HOME IMMEDIATELY. You don't stay abroad during a cr!s!s like this.

A real leader is on the ground with the military and the people, not cutting ribbons in London. Nigeria is a great country with wonderful people, but they are being let down by a government that isn't focused on STRENGTH and SECUR!TY.

Close the borders, find the terrorists, and PROTECT YOUR CITIZENS. Everything else can wait. TRUTH!”

Donald Trump.

US freezes assets of eight Nigerians over Boko Haram, ISIL, cybercrime links

US freezes assets of eight Nigerians over Boko Haram, ISIL, cybercrime links

Trump

The United States America which officially designated the Nigeria's islamists Terrorists Boko Haram a foreign terrorist organisation in 2013 has freezes assets of eight Nigerians over Boko Haram, ISIL, cybercrime links.

The US State Department claimed that the group has carried out numerous deadly attacks across northern and northeastern Nigeria, as well as the Lake Chad Basin, since 2009.

US President Donald Trump announced in October 2025, for the second time that Nigeria would be added to the US Department of State’s list of “Countries of Particular Concern,” citing alleged religious freedom violations and Christian genocide.

Nigeria was first designated in 2020 under Trump during his first term but was removed from the list by former President Joe Biden shortly after he assumed office.

There were claims that insecurity in Nigeria was founded in t President Barrak Obama in a desperate agenda to to remove President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 and put in place the pro terrorists regime of APC. There have never been any counter claims that APC imported and brought more Fulani Terrorists machineries from other West African countries into the country.

FULL LIST :

Sanctioned Nigerians (as named by OFAC):

Salih Yusuf Adamu (also known as Salihu Yusuf)

Babestan Oluwole Ademulero

Abu Abdullah ibn Umar Al-Barnawi

Abu Musab Al-Barnawi

Khaled Al-Barnawi

Ibrahim Ali Alhassan

Abu Bakr ibn Muhammad ibn Ali Al-Mainuki

 US frozen the assets of the above eight Nigerians linked to the Islamic sect Boko Haram and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

According to the detailed in a 3,000-page document released on February 10 by the U.S. Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).

The document also identifies individuals sanctioned for cybercrime and other security threats, following recent U.S. Congressional recommendations for visa bans and asset freezes on those accused of violating religious freedom and persecuting Christians in Nigeria.

US lawmakers have recommended visa bans and asset freezes against the former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, and Miyetti Allah Kautal, over alleged links to extremist activities.

 The recommendation was contained in a document released by the US Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) titled “Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons List.”

 The publication outlines individuals and entities whose assets have been frozen and serves as a reference tool for compliance with US sanctions regimes, particularly those related to counter-terrorism.

According to Office of Foreign Assets Control, the move forms part of broader efforts to block the property and interests of designated individuals and prevent financial dealings with them.

“This publication of Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control is designed as a reference tool providing actual notice of actions by OFAC with respect to Specially Designated Nationals and other persons … whose property is blocked, to assist the public in complying with the various sanctions programmes administered by OFAC,” the agency said.

Among those listed is Salih Yusuf Adamu, also known as Salihu Yusuf, born August 23, 1990, in Nigeria. OFAC identified him as having ties to Boko Haram. Yusuf was among six Nigerians convicted in 2022 in the United Arab Emirates for setting up a Boko Haram cell to raise funds for insurgents in Nigeria. The group attempted to transfer $782,000 from Dubai to Nigeria.

Another individual, Babestan Oluwole Ademulero, born March 4, 1953, was designated under SDNTK sanctions and listed under multiple aliases, including Wole A. Babestan and Olatunde Irewole Shofeso.

Also sanctioned were Abu Abdullah ibn Umar Al-Barnawi (also known as Ba Idrisa), Abu Musab Al-Barnawi (Habib Yusuf), Khaled (Khalid) Al-Barnawi, Ibrahim Ali Alhassan, and Abu Bakr ibn Muhammad ibn Ali Al-Mainuki, all identified as having links to Boko Haram or ISIL. Several of the individuals were born in Maiduguri or other parts of Borno State and were sanctioned under terrorism-related executive orders.

Additionally, Nnamdi Orson Benson, born March 21, 1987, was listed under CYBER2 sanctions for cyber-related offences and was reported to hold a Nigerian passport.

The sanctions mean that all property and interests of the listed individuals within US jurisdiction are blocked, and US persons are prohibited from engaging in transactions with them.

Hence, Nigerians named under the sanctions face asset freezes under Executive Order 13224.

APC led federal government was voted in 2015 to primarily end insurgence, create jobs and improve the economy.  However, under the APC leadership, insecurity knows no bounds, multiple Terrorists group emanated as the government was less concerned about the protection of lives and properties of the citizens.

Insecurity has since becomes a multi dimensional business for the political and military elites. Billions of dollars have been allocated to fight the menace of terrorism.

The Nigeria's government has not addressed the country on the cost implications of the American intervention.

However, US President Donald Trump's intervention and bombing of the islamists Terrorists in Sokoto in the Christmas Eve was a relief to many Nigerians.

This deployment of the US troops marks the first confirmed U.S. boots on the ground in Nigeria and a significant escalation of American military involvement in the Nigeria's fight against the terrorists ravaging the the country.

The public deserves clarity on scope, mission, and legal authority.

ALAAFIN CONDEMNS OLD OYO NATIONAL PARK KILLINGS- CALLS IT ASSAULT ON YORUBA HERITAGE, URGE FOR MILITARY BASE AT OTEFON AND FULL INVESTIGATION INTO THE KILLINGS

ALAAFIN CONDEMNS OLD OYO NATIONAL PARK KILLINGS- CALLS IT ASSAULT ON YORUBA HERITAGE, URGE FOR MILITARY BASE AT OTEFON AND FULL INVESTIGATION INTO THE KILLINGS

His Imperial Majesty (IKU BABA YEYE), Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, The Alaafin of Oyo — Keeper of the Throne, Shield of the Yoruba, today issued a thunderous condemnation of the brutal attack on Oloka village and the killing of civilians and rangers within Old Oyo National Park, declaring it an assault on Yoruba sovereignty and ancestral heritage and also sympathize with the families of the forest guards

In a release issued by His Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaiye, after a solemn proclamation read at the imperial Court of Oyo, the Alaafin stated:

“The recent brutal killings inside Old Oyo National Park — especially the massacre at Oloko — is not merely a ‘security breach.’ It is a dagger plunged into the heart of our ancestral empire. Our sacred forests, our game reserves, our historic grounds — where our kings once hunted with spears and drums — are now being turned into slaughter yards by armed marauders. THIS WILL NOT STAND.”_

His Majesty has decreed the following actions:

*Official Condemnation* — of the senseless murder of innocent civilians, rangers, and travelers in Old Oyo National Park — demanding full, transparent investigation and immediate arrest of all perpetrators.

*Establishment of Military Base* — designation of Otefon Village as a permanent *Armed Military Base of the kingdom* — to fortify the region and secure the Oyo-Oduduwa corridor.

Deployment of Yoruba Defense Force Battalion — under joint command of the Nigerian Army and traditional warrior chiefs — to patrol the park 24/7 and repel invaders.

Federal Recognition — call on the President and Ministry of Defence to declare Otefon a *Strategic National Security Zone* — and fund construction of barracks, watchtowers, and helipad within next few months.

The Paramount Ruler who described banditry and other security challenges facing the country as "" gory, worrisome and disturbing"", pointed out that security is critical to the survival of any nation to forestall lawlessness, chaos and disorder.

Oba Owoade lauded President Bola Tinubu's demonstration, through actions, that ending insecurity is one of his administration’s foremost concern.

Said he, "" our ancestors did not build empires to watch them crumble under banditry. We will rebuild the walls — not with mud, but with steel. Not with prayers alone, but with patrols. Not with silence — but with thunder.” — Alaafin stressed.

The Nigerian Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP) have successfully rescued a retired senior officer of the Nigerian Army, Colonel Ajanaku (Rtd), following his abduction by unidentified gunmen in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

According to a statement by the military, the retired senior officer was kidnapped in the early hours of 5 January 2026 at about 0045 hours from his residence opposite the Salvation Army Church along Rukuba Road, Bassa LGA. Upon receipt of the distress call, troops of Sectors 1 and 3, Operation ENDURING PEACE, swiftly mobilised and trailed the kidnappers along their withdrawal route through the Wildlife Park.

The troops, in conjunction with the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) Tracking Team and local vigilantes, sustained intensive search and rescue operations, combing suspected criminal hideouts across caves and rocky high grounds within the general area.

Later in the day, at about 1400 hours, the kidnappers contacted the wife of the abducted retired officer and demanded a ransom of Two Hundred Million Naira (₦200,000,000.00). Having observed the overwhelming presence and pressure from pursuing troops, the kidnappers issued threats to kill the victim if search operations were not halted.

Consequently, troops tactically switched to covert operations, which culminated in the successful rescue of Colonel Ajanaku (Rtd) at about 1730 hours on 5 January 2026 at the outskirts of the Rafiki Axis, Bassa LGA, Plateau State, without any ransom payment.

The rescued retired officer is currently undergoing medical examination at the Operation ENDURING PEACE Medical Centre and is in stable condition. He will be debriefed to provide vital intelligence that will aid ongoing follow-up operations.

Meanwhile, troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE are continuing aggressive combing operations within the surrounding forests to apprehend the fleeing kidnappers and dismantle their criminal network.

The Nigerian Army, through Operation ENDURING PEACE, reaffirms its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property and will continue to deny criminal elements freedom of action across the Joint Operations Area.

US Congressman Riley Moore Calls for MILITARY ACTION as ISWAP Declares Christians “Legitimate Targets” in Nigeria

US Congressman Riley Moore Calls for MILITARY ACTION as ISWAP Declares Christians “Legitimate Targets” in Nigeria

Moore

U.S. Congressman Riley Moore has called for increased American military support in Nigeria after the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) explicitly declared Christians “legitimate targets.”

The ISIS linked ISWAP released an image of one of the Christian villages in Adamawa State burning, alongside a statement saying that all Christians in Nigeria are legitimate targets, and they have an opportunity to "spare their blood" by converting to Islam or paying the jizyah tax to ISWAP.

Moore said that if there were any remaining doubts about the persecution of Christians in Nigeria, this latest development “should end that debate,” insisting the violence is driven by religion rather than disputes over land or climate policy.

He accused ISWAP of seeking to force conversions and praised ongoing cooperation between the United States and the Nigerian government to counter extremist attacks.

ISWAP has escalated attacks in northeastern Nigeria, burning villages, destroying churches and homes, and issuing statements that residents could “spare their blood” only by converting to Islam or paying the protection tax, jizyah. Reports indicate at least one village suffered significant loss of life, including over 100 homes destroyed.

NIGERIA'S ARMY CHIEF CHARGES TROOPS IN SOKOTO TO MAINTAIN OPERATIONAL MOMENTUM, DECISIVELY CRUSH BANDITS, TERRORISTS

The Nigeria's Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has charged troops of 8 Division Sokoto and Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, to sustain the current operational tempo and decisively eliminate bandits and terrorists operating within the 8 Division Area of Responsibility.

General Shaibu gave the charge on 27 December 2025, while addressing troops of 248 Reconnaissance Battalion, Illela, Sokoto State, during an operational visit to Formations and Units under the 8 Division Area of Responsibility.

According to the Acting Director Army Public Relations  Colonel Appolonia Anele, the COAS commended the troops for their gallantry, professionalism and resilience in confronting criminal elements whose activities have brought untold hardship to innocent Nigerians. He lauded their operational successes, noting that their sustained efforts have significantly improved security within the Area of Responsibility.

“I commend you for your courage, professionalism and the operational successes recorded so far. Your sacrifices have translated into improved security in your Area of Responsibility. You must maintain the momentum to further annihilate and send the terrorists to their maker who is to decide what to do with them. We can no longer tolerate their excesses against the Nigerian people” the COAS stated.

The Army Chief further reassured the troops of his unwavering commitment to their welfare. He directed the construction of additional accommodation, medical and other essential facilities at Illela Barracks to enhance the morale, well-being and operational effectiveness of troops and their families.

On the late night of Christmas day, United States President Donald Trump ordered precision missile strikes against the ISIS linked Terrorists hideout in Sokoto State. Nigerian government also claimed having the full knowledge of it and that the mission was successful.

Until Trump's rhetorics, the APC led pro Terrorists government have remained unconcerned about the callous activities of the Terrorists against the innocent citizens. Children and students are being kidnapped at will where government officials are negotiating with them. Many of these criminals were reportedly brought into the CV country by the APC leadership in their myopic determination to capture the government in 2015.

CHRISTMAS BANGERS: US Spent Over N36 Billions In One Night Against Nigeria's ISIS linked Terrorists

CHRISTMAS BANGERS: US Spent Over N36 Billions In One Night Against Nigeria's ISIS linked Terrorists

The United States President Donald Trump ordered the missile attacks against the ISIS linked Terrorists group in Nigeria on the late night if the Christmas day.

Over N36b of Nigeria naira have be reportedly spent.

A U.S. defense official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told Reuters that the strike in Nigeria was carried out by about a dozen Tomahawk missiles launched from a U.S. Navy warship, USS Paul Ignatius, with each missile costing close to $2 million.

What this means is that over $24 million (36 billion naira) were spent by the Trump government in Nigeria last night.

Meanwhile, both the federal government of Nigeria and the Sokoto State government have separately confirmed that Nigerian security forces, working in close coordination with the United States, have carried out successful precision strike operations against Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist enclaves in Sokoto State.

According to a statement signed by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the strikes targeted two major ISIS camps located within the Bauni forest axis of Tangaza Local Government Area.

Nigeria State under the APC led pro Terrorists Civilian Regime has become a den of criminalities where different criminal groups are operating without genuine check until US President Donald Trump's threats and rhetorics.

The question is ; If the missile strikes should continue against the terrorists , will Nigeria be able to bear the financial consequences under this very corrupt APC led leadership?

The Bombs That Had to Fall: America's Christmas Day Strike on Jihadist Camps in Sokoto, Seat of the Caliphate

The Bombs That Had to Fall: America's Christmas Day Strike on Jihadist Camps in Sokoto, Seat of the Caliphate

In the early hours of December 26, 2025, as most Nigerians slept off Christmas festivities, the skies over Tangaza Local Government Area in Sokoto State erupted with the thunderous roar of precision airstrikes. For 45 minutes, from 11:45 PM on December 25 to 12:30 AM, United States military aircraft unleashed what President Donald Trump described as "a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS Terrorist Scum in Northwest Nigeria."

The operation, estimated to have cost between $1 million and $3 million, marked a significant escalation in international counterterrorism efforts within Nigeria's borders. Both the U.S. Department of War and Nigeria's Foreign Minister confirmed that the strikes were a coordinated operation between the two nations, targeting a terrorist base hosting key jihadist affiliates in the Bouni axis of Tangaza.

Yet, predictably, the strikes have sparked intense debate across Nigeria. Skeptics have questioned everything from the existence of ISIS in Sokoto to the legitimacy of American military intervention on Nigerian soil. Kaduna-based Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmed Gumi went as far as calling the operation symbolic of a "neo-Crusade war against Islam," urging Nigeria to halt all military cooperation with the United States and seek assistance from China, Turkey, or Pakistan instead.

But as someone who has reported extensively from Tangaza and witnessed firsthand the creeping menace of transnational jihadism in Nigeria's Northwest, I can say with confidence: these airstrikes were not only necessary, they were overdue.

The Lakurawa Threat: A Clear and Present Danger

In November 2024, my colleague Segun Onibiyo and I published an exclusive investigation into Tangaza and the alarming influx of foreign Islamist terrorists from the Sahel region into Nigeria through its porous northwestern borders. What we found was chilling: the Lakurawa terrorist group, a coalition of jihadists with ambitions to establish Islamic caliphates stretching from the Sahel down to the coast of Ghana, had been actively recruiting local fighters, including Fulani militias, across Sokoto and Kebbi states.

Tangaza, situated along Nigeria's border with Niger Republic, has become a critical transit and operational hub for these jihadists. The porosity of this border facilitates the seamless movement of fighters, weapons, and ideology between the Sahel's conflict zones and Nigeria's increasingly vulnerable Northwest. This isn't speculation, it's documented reality.

The Lakurawa aren't merely bandits or cattle rustlers. They represent a sophisticated, ideologically driven terror network affiliated with Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM), an Al-Qaeda affiliate operating across the Sahel. Their objectives are clear: destabilize governments, impose harsh interpretations of Sharia law, and expand their territorial control. Their methods are equally clear: targeted assassinations, mass kidnappings, extortion, and brutal attacks on anyone who resists their authority, including Muslims.

Why Sokoto? Understanding the Strategic Significance

Critics have questioned why Sokoto, the historic seat of Nigeria's caliphate and a region perceived as peaceful, would be targeted. This question betrays a dangerous ignorance of contemporary jihadist strategy.

Sokoto's symbolic importance cannot be overstated. For groups like Lakurawa and their Sahel-based allies, controlling or influencing territories with deep Islamic heritage lends them religious legitimacy. Tangaza's strategic location along smuggling routes and its proximity to ungoverned spaces in Niger Republic make it an ideal staging ground for operations deeper into Nigeria.

Furthermore, the U.S. military doesn't invest millions of dollars in precision airstrikes based on hunches. In recent weeks, American forces have conducted intensive Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) operations across the Sahel region of Nigeria. These missions undoubtedly revealed credible intelligence about the presence of high-value terrorist targets in Tangaza, likely including senior commanders planning coordinated attacks across multiple Nigerian states.

The Sokoto State Government has confirmed that terrorist locations were indeed bombed. Reports from Niger indicate that Nigerien soldiers observed fleeing Lakurawa fighters escaping Tangaza after the strikes. The operation targeted a terrorist base where top jihadist commanders were reportedly meeting to strategize large-scale attacks. No civilian casualties were recorded, a testament to the precision and coordination involved.

Trump's "ISIS" Rhetoric: Politics Meets Reality

President Trump's characterization of the targets as "ISIS Terrorist Scum" warrants clarification. While Lakurawa is primarily affiliated with JNIM and Al-Qaeda rather than ISIS, the distinction may be more relevant to terrorism analysts than to practical counterterrorism operations. Both organizations share overlapping ideologies, tactics, and objectives. Both seek to establish Islamic caliphates through violence and terror. Both recruit from the same radicalized populations and exploit the same governance vacuums.

Trump's reference to ISIS likely serves a dual purpose: it resonates with American audiences familiar with ISIS's atrocities, and it simplifies a complex security landscape into terms that justify decisive action. For Nigerians living under the threat of these groups, whether the terrorists pledge allegiance to ISIS, Al-Qaeda, or JNIM matters far less than whether they're being effectively neutralized.

The Broader War: Why This Strike Matters

This operation represents more than just a tactical victory, it signals a renewed international commitment to confronting transnational terrorism in West Africa. For too long, Nigeria has faced these threats with insufficient resources, inadequate intelligence capabilities, and an overstretched military. The involvement of U.S. military assets, with their advanced surveillance technology, precision strike capabilities, and real-time intelligence, provides a force multiplier that Nigeria desperately needs.

The Lakurawa threat extends beyond Sokoto and Kebbi. Their influence has been felt in Zamfara, and increasingly in parts of Niger and Kwara States. They operate with impunity in areas where state presence is minimal or non-existent. They impose taxes on communities, recruit disaffected youth, and coordinate with local bandits to create a complex web of criminality and ideological extremism.

Sheikh Gumi's concerns about sovereignty and the symbolism of American intervention are not without merit in principle. No nation should casually cede control of military operations within its borders. However, his suggestion that "terrorists don't fight terrorists" ignores the fundamental difference between legitimate counterterrorism operations conducted with host-nation consent and the indiscriminate violence perpetrated by jihadist groups.

His recommendation that Nigeria seek assistance from China, Turkey, or Pakistan instead raises its own questions. Are these nations better positioned to provide the sophisticated ISR capabilities, precision strike assets, and actionable intelligence that this operation demonstrated? The evidence suggests otherwise.

Looking Forward: Recommendations for Sustained Action

While the Tangaza strikes represent a significant achievement, they cannot be a one-off event. Nigeria's counterterrorism strategy must evolve to address the full spectrum of jihadist threats across the country.

The next priority should be the systematic dismantling of known terror cells in the Middle Belt, particularly in Nasarawa, Plateau, Benue, and Taraba states. These cells serve as planning and staging grounds for attacks on farming communities that have displaced thousands and devastated agricultural production. Precision airstrikes targeting these locations, combined with ground operations to clear and hold territory, would significantly degrade their operational capacity.

Nigeria must also invest in border security infrastructure along its northern frontiers. Technology, surveillance drones, biometric checkpoints, rapid response units, must replace the current patchwork of undermanned outposts. Regional cooperation with Niger, Chad, and Cameroon needs strengthening to create a coordinated response to groups that exploit national boundaries.

Finally, Nigeria must address the governance vacuums that make communities vulnerable to jihadist recruitment. Where the state is absent, in providing security, justice, education, and economic opportunity, extremist groups fill the void. Long-term victory against terrorism requires not just military action but the restoration of effective governance.

Conclusion: A Necessary Strike in a Long War

The Christmas Day airstrikes in Tangaza were not an American crusade against Islam, as some have claimed. They were a necessary surgical intervention against a metastasizing terrorist threat that endangers Muslims and Christians alike. The Lakurawa and their affiliates have killed indiscriminately, enslaved communities, and sought to drag Nigeria into the chaos consuming the Sahel.

Those who doubt the necessity or success of these strikes should ask themselves: Would they prefer that the terrorists meeting in that Tangaza forest had been left to execute whatever atrocities they were planning? Would they prefer that Nigeria face these transnational threats entirely alone, without the intelligence and capabilities that international partnerships provide?

The war against terrorism in Nigeria is far from over. But on December 25, 2025, in the skies over Sokoto, a significant battle was won. Now comes the harder work: sustaining the pressure, expanding operations to other terrorist strongholds, and building the state capacity necessary to ensure that when terrorists are eliminated, they cannot simply be replaced.

The strike in Tangaza matters because it demonstrates that Nigeria is not alone in this fight, and that those who wage jihad against innocent Nigerians, regardless of their religious affiliation or international backing, will face consequences.

The question now is whether Nigeria has the political will to build on this success or whether the Tangaza strikes will remain an isolated event in an otherwise reactive and inadequate counterterrorism strategy.

For the sake of every Nigerian farmer, trader, student, and family living under the shadow of these groups, we must choose the former.

Steven Kefas is an investigative journalist, Senior Research Analyst at the Observatory for Religious Freedom in Africa, and Publisher of Middle Belt Times. He has documented religious persecution, terrorism and forced displacement in Nigeria’s Middle Belt for over a decade.

American Strikes On Terrorists: Tambuwal Commends Professionalism, Urges Communities To Remain Calm, Law Abiding

Former Governor of Sokoto State and the Senator Representing the Sokoto South Senatorial district Aminu Tambuwal has called on the citizens in Sokoto State to be peaceful and law abiding as the United States in partnership with the Nigerian Federal Government strikes the Terrorists hideout in Sokoto State.

Former Speaker of the Federal House Of Representatives said: 'I have noted the reports concerning an airstrike carried out as part of ongoing counterterrorism efforts through cooperation between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the United States. I urge our communities to remain calm and law abiding as relevant authorities clarify the circumstances surrounding the operation.'

"I wish to assure the people of Sokoto South that I am in active talks with relevant security authorities to obtain full details and ensure that all necessary safeguards are upheld."

"It is important to reassure the public that counterterrorism operations are targeted at criminal and terrorist elements who threaten our collective safety, and not at innocent civilians who are themselves victims of insecurity. The protection of civilian lives remains paramount and remains central to all legitimate security operations."

Tambuwal

"I commend the courage and professionalism of our military and security forces, who continue to work tirelessly, often in collaboration with international partners, to confront terrorism and banditry under extremely challenging conditions. Their sacrifice and commitment to restoring peace and stability deserve our full support and cooperation.

"I also call on community leaders, traditional institutions, and residents to continue working closely with security agencies by sharing credible information and resisting misinformation that could heighten fear or tension.

"Together, through unity, vigilance, and support for lawful security efforts, we will overcome the forces of terror and secure lasting peace for Sokoto State and Nigeria at large. -AWTI have noted the reports concerning an airstrike carried out as part of ongoing counterterrorism efforts through cooperation between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the United States. United States President Donald Trump was true to his promises to lunch attacks against the Boko Haram/ISWAP/Herdsmen terrorists that have killed thousands of innocent and harmless citizens, displaced millions with thousands in IDP camps.

Without the foreign intervention from the US, the APC led Nigeria government and the military have demonstrated low level of seriousness in tackling the Terrorists as the campaigns have been seen as businesses. Corruption scandals have been previously recorded in arms deals.

Donald Trump Confirms US Carried out "powerful and deadly" Strikes against Islamic State forces in Nigeria

Donald Trump Confirms US Carried out "powerful and deadly" Strikes against Islamic State forces in Nigeria

American President Donald Trump said Thursday night that he'd launched a "powerful and deadly" U.S. strike against Islamic State forces in Nigeria, after spending weeks accusing the Bola Ahmed Tinubu led pro Terrorists government of failing to rein in the persecution of Christians.

According to the US President: "Tonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS Terrorist Scum in Northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians, at levels not seen for many years, and even Centuries!"

The president posted on his social media site. His post did not include information about how the strike was carried out, nor what effects it had. But the U.S. Africa Command posted on X that it had "conducted a strike at the request of Nigerian authorities in Soboto State killing multiple ISIS terrorists."

"Lethal strikes against ISIS demonstrate the strength of our military and our commitment to eliminating terrorist threats against Americans at home and abroad," its post said.

The Defense Department did not immediately answer requests for comment.

In response to Trump's previous criticisms, Nigeria's government says that people of many faiths, not just Christians, have suffered attacks at the hands of extremists groups.

However, the truth remains that the primary targets of the northern Oligarchy sponsored terrors are Christians and have surfer thousands of casualties while the APC led federal government weren't serious about the fight against the insurgents. Thousands are in IDPs.

Still, last month, Trump said he'd ordered the Pentagon to begin planning for potential military action in Nigeria following the claims of Christian persecution. The State Department has also announced it would restrict visas for Nigerians and their family members involved in mass killings and violence against Christians in the West African country.

And the U.S. recently designated Nigeria a "country of particular concern" under the International Religious Freedom Act.

"I have previously warned these Terrorists that if they did not stop the slaughtering of Christians, there would be hell to pay, and tonight, there was," Trump wrote in his Christmas night post.

He said that U.S. defense officials had "executed numerous perfect strikes, as only the United States is capable of doing" and added that "our Country will not allow Radical Islamic Terrorism to prosper."

Nigeria's population of 220 million is split almost equally between Christians and Muslims. The country has long faced insecurity from various fronts including the Boko Haram extremist group, which seeks to establish its radical interpretation of Islamic law and has also targeted Muslims it deems not Muslim enough.

But attacks in Nigeria often have varying motives. There are religiously motivated ones targeting both Christians and Muslims, clashes between farmers and herders over dwindling resources, communal rivalries, secessionist groups and ethnic clashes.

The U.S. security footprint has diminished in Africa, where military partnerships have either been scaled down or canceled. U.S. forces likely would have to be drawn from other parts of the world for any military intervention in Nigeria.

Trump has nonetheless kept up the pressure as Nigeria faced a series of attacks on schools and churches in violence that experts and residents say targets both Christians and Muslims.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth posted Thursday night on X: "The President was clear last month: the killing of innocent Christians in Nigeria (and elsewhere) must end."

Hegseth said that U.S. military forces are "always ready, so ISIS found out tonight — on Christmas" and added, "More to come…Grateful for Nigerian government support & cooperation" before signing off, "Merry Christmas!"
