The Ogun State Chapter of the Labour Party has received with satisfaction the swift action of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in updating its portal to reflect the court-ordered recognition of the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Senator Nenadi Esther Usman.

This development marks a significant and positive step towards stability, unity, and institutional respect for the rule of law within our great party. We congratulate Senator Nenadi Esther Usman and her newly recognized National Executive Council on this formal affirmation of their leadership. This decision paves the way for the much-needed consolidation and focused rebuilding of our party structures nationwide.

As a chapter, we are confident that this resolution will inject fresh momentum into the Labour Party's mission to offer Nigerians a credible, progressive, and people-centric alternative in the political landscape. It strengthens our position as a major opposition party ready to contest robustly in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.

To our dedicated members, supporters, and stakeholders across Ogun State:

We urge utmost calm, patience, and continued solidarity. The State Executive Committee is actively engaging with the newly recognized National Leadership to receive directives and a blueprint for the next phase of party restructuring and activities. We assure you that every step taken will be communicated transparently and in a timely manner.

We remain steadfast in our commitment to the ideals of the Labour Party—social justice, economic empowerment, and democratic integrity. Now is the time for unity, not division; for constructive engagement, not distraction.

Let LABOUR PARTY Breathe! —Apagun Olaolu Samuel

Let LABOUR PARTY Breathe! —Apagun Olaolu Samuel

Apagun

In an emotional  outburst during a live radio interview, Apagun Olaolu Samuel, the Chairman of the Ogun State Labour Party, made a passionate appeal to the incumbent government and the ruling party, urging them to "let Labour Party breathe." His remarks highlighted the increasing pressure the party has faced, describing it as a relentless tightening of an executional's noose aimed at stifling life out of the party.

Samuel expressed deep concern over what he characterized as deliberate attempts by the ruling party to undermine the Labour Party's influence across the states as they were dazed by her performance during the last general elections which have now become their nightmare. He revealed that there are efforts to implant individuals within the party as moles, with the intention of subverting its activities and weakening its unity. "They have implanted moles within our ranks and files, trying to supplant us from within, and we cannot stand idly by while our party is being strangulated," he declared.

The Chairman's heartfelt plea comes amidst a charged political atmosphere, where the Labour Party is navigating through internal and external challenges, unending multiple court cases from all fronts and failure of the INEC, the federal government agency in charge of political party's and elections management to adhere by the Supreme Court judgement as they still kept the name of Abure and his cohorts on their portal despite the fact that the court had severally made a verdict that Abure tenure lapsed since June 8th 2024. Samuel emphasized the need for a fair political environment, free from intimidation and subterfuge, to allow the party to fulfill its mission of representing the interests of the marginalized and advocating for social justice. He asserted that if there is nothing underneath, s fire outbreak cannot go beyond the river.

Samuel’s interview resonated with supporters and party members, who rallied behind his call for solidarity and resilience in the face of adversity. "We will not be silenced, and we will continue to fight for our place in Ogun State's political landscape, and Nigeria at large," he asserted.

As the political landscape shifts, Samuel’s impassioned plea serves as a rallying cry for those within the Labour Party, urging them to remain resilient, vigilant and committed to their cause. The future of the party hinges on its ability to navigate these turbulent waters and emerge stronger, but that requires a political environment that supports rather than suppresses democratic engagement. He concluded by reinstating emphatically that Labour Party has not enter into a coalition agreement with any political party till now, saying "Hold on to your Fold" don't be deceived, if there is any arrangements in that manner, you will be officially addressed.

THE LAST STRAW: Understanding the Breaking Point

THE LAST STRAW: Understanding the Breaking Point

Apagun

It is often said, he who undermine the cotton wool to the effect that it cannot amount to a load, simply indicate that such is having just a trimmed piece to be soaked in oil for illumination of his room. In life, we often encounter a myriad of challenges and frustrations. These can range from minor annoyances to significant obstacles that test our resilience. However, there comes a moment for many when a seemingly small issue becomes the proverbial “last straw,” leading to a breakdown or a decisive change. This concept, illustrating the tipping point in various situations, is crucial to understanding human behaviour and societal dynamics.

 The Origin of the Phrase

The phrase “the last straw” has its roots in the idea of a proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back. It evokes an image of the cumulative effect of many small burdens, considered to be lightweight, leading to a breaking point. Historically, it has been used to convey how a single, seemingly minor issue can lead to significant consequences when added to accumulated stressors. The Yoruba's conclusion of the matter asserted that a shrimps eater will never be satisfied by a piece while Wisdom cried out through the scripture that: "Three things that are never satisfied, yea, four things says it's not enough: The grave, and the barren womb; the earth that is not filled with water, and the fire that says it's not enough.

 Political Perspectives

In personal relationships, the last straw can manifest as the breaking point of patience and tolerance. For example, in a friendship where one party continuously neglects commitments or exhibits self-centered behaviour, a trivial incident—like forgetting a significant date—might provoke an intense emotional reaction. This reaction serves as a catalyst for reevaluation of the relationship’s viability, prompting discussions about boundaries and expectations.

In the political space, the last straw can occur when a contestant, or a political leader feels overburdened with responsibilities, coupled with inadequate recognition or support. A small miscommunication, misconception, misrepresentation or a political miscalculation or disappointment may trigger feelings of frustration, leading the assumed or presumed political genius to reconsider their role and stand within the political party. This notion underscores the importance of fostering a supportive political environment, where individuals feel valued and their contributions recognized.

Societal Implications

The concept of the last straw extends beyond political experiences and infiltrates societal issues. Social movements often arise when nations reach a tipping point, catalyzed by a series of injustices. The recent global focus on social justice movements can be traced back to numerous incidents—each a straw added to a heavy load—culminating in widespread outrage and demand for change. For example, in cases of systemic inequality or police brutality, a single incident often mobilizes communities to rally together, highlighting the profound impact of cumulative frustration. The consequences is best  known by the government of the day, as "Sọ̀rọ̀-sókè" within moments birthed "End SARS Movement" which Mr. Peter Obi amongst some notable politicians, human right and social activists benefited largely from and used as a launch pad.

Coping with the Break Point

Recognizing the signs of nearing a breaking point is crucial for maintaining emotional well-being and a political spring board. Getting prepared to take advantage of opportunities that presented itself and making the best use of it sometimes makes a ready man steady in an acrobatic political  achievement and pedigree, but when the refiner's fire comes, all rudimentary elements and attachments will be done away with leaving such with the real man under the masquerade. But for some whose presence is no longer essential, it's better to bow out honourably when the ovation is loudest. What you do during your appointed time that brings honour and ovation may likely be the same thing you do to be dishonoured when your time is overdue.

In the last couple of years, we've all witnessed the rise of Julius Abure ni Nigerian political space alongside Mr. Peter Obi, but the last couples of days have been very turbulent for him as he sinks deeper by the day for his overtures, overtime and overbearing influence and grip on the Labour Party, his unabated tight fisted control wall of the party has been bombed by his dumb sycophants surrounding him, having fumbled, the political wall built around him crumbled through aerial missile warplane, while the foot soldiers are taking charge on ground. Severally he has been offered soft landing, but a head that will receive a butt, if placed in an SUV, will definitely stretched the head out of the car at Oshodi or Mushin-Oloosha. Just like Maduro, weeks before his capture, he had been offered asylum in Turkey with his wealth intact and protected, but the head that will eventually eat Vulture for dinner will not accept Turkey in the daytime.

Obi and his New Cross

The issue of politicians switching parties and the challenges facing Nigeria are complex topics. Party switching can be driven by various factors, such as:

- Personal ambition

- Disagreements with party policies or leadership

- Seeking better opportunities or alliances

In the case of Mr. Peter Obi, it is all of the above and some many more that are not visible but feasible. And it should be noted that this is not the first time he will be switching a political platform, leaving such party's licking their wounds. One of the Yoruba proverbs has stated that a woman courted through dancing skills will surely be drawn away while watching a public show.

Regarding the ability of a leader to fix problems, it's true that a leader's track record and experience can impact their effectiveness. However, it's also important to consider the role of systemic issues, institutional challenges, and the need for collective effort in addressing complex problems like those facing Nigeria. A leader is supposed to be a problem solver not the one who runs away in face of danger. Peter Obi as a political leader of Labour Party for more than three years without profering solution to the party's lingering issues has exposed his weakness and vulnerability. Like a general statement in Yorubaland, someone just returned from a warfronts, and claimed to have killed six men in the cause of fighting for his nation, as he was about stepping out, he stepped on six chicks, killing them instantly, he saw some group of people at the village square playing 'Ayo', s kind of African game and defeated six people at a row, the general opinion of the Yoruba's was that if we are not witnesses to the six men he acclaimed to have killed in the warfare, we can bear witnesses to his present exploits.

The present arrangement of using ADC as a political platform for coalition is questionable as it is a subversive subtle merger of opposition political parties, the truth was that ADC was acquired by groups of political stalwarts for the purpose of acquisition of power. This is not the first time we will be having a coalition in Nigerian political arrangement, like in 1999, Chief Olu Falae did not relinquish his membership of Alliance for Democracy before he contested using the platform of All People's Party. With this present arrangement, the identity and ideology of all political parties participating will go into oblivion without categorically stating it's a merger.

Ever since, ADC have been hustling and bustling with activities, the membership of other parties are now being subverted to build another one without any agreement by the party structures and leadership at the highest level just because those who are behind the arrangement knew they do not have a political party they could call their own. Is it not foolhardy, for a political party who has millions of vote in the last general elections to now enter an arrangement using a party in numbers of thousands? Will the foundation of this unholy alliance stand the test of time? Only time could tell. When ACN, nPDP, CPC and faction of APGA came together in 2014 to defeat the ruling PDP, what has Nigerians benefited from the arrangement? More Poverty, and the likes, and in this case most of those who are together today do not have the political pedigree to be entrusted with the Commonwealth of Nigeria.

The last straw serves as a powerful metaphor for understanding human reactions to cumulative stressors. By recognizing the potential for small issues to escalate into significant emotional responses, we can foster healthier relationships, create supportive environments, and promote societal change. Most importantly, understanding this concept empowers us to take proactive measures to prevent reaching our own breaking points, ultimately leading to a more resilient life. The Nigerian political space has been overstretch to the breaking point, which will eventually necessitate the emergence of the newest political leaders we can trust, as the old bunch of politicians are settling age long scores amongst themselves, God will in his infinite mercies appoint unto us a shepherd that will not run away when the predators are on rampage.

NIGERIAN POLITICS: The Vultures Clustering the Sculpture Depicting Our Culture

NIGERIAN POLITICS: The Vultures Clustering the Sculpture Depicting Our Culture

In a haunting tableau that many would rather overlook, a gathering of vultures hovers ominously around the lifeless body of a man—a sight emblematic of deeper societal issues lying at the heart of our culture. This stark imagery serves as a metaphor for the voracious entities that exploit the vulnerability of individuals and political parties, much like vultures feasting on carrion.

As the vultures circle, poised and patient, waiting for the clinically dead man to pass on, they epitomize the predatory nature of societal structures that thrive on the misfortunes of the weak. In this case, the man, though clinically dead, represents not just an individual lost to despair, but a wider cultural decay.  The Bible rightly stated that 'where the dead are, there the Vultures gather together.' The vultures symbolize the opportunists—be it political figures, corporations, or cultural critics—who capitalize on suffering for their gain, with little regard for the dignity of the deceased or the community he once cherished.

In the heart of a nation was placed the statue of political figure representing a political freedom fighter, dubbed the best president Nigeria never had, depicting a propagator of socialist and progressive movement, his statue overshadowing surrounding skyscrapers, a figure you cannot easily ignore. Politicians made him god, a name they always referred to as their leader, teacher and mentor to deceive in elections seasons but forgot thereafter. As I observed the great statue from a distance, I saw what many do not consider as a looming danger, vultures swarmed around it but not overshadowing it made people not to see what I am seeing, hawks were perching on its lifeless body, I can see hawks entering it through its wide opened mouth enough to give passage to the hawks and the Vultures, the hawks go on hunting expedition bringing it inside a sculpture depicting our political culture or better said party, the Vultures feast on it grabbing it from the hawks. Insects and reptiles using it as an abode takes the remnants. Can you conjure these pictures together and see the bigger pictures and what it portrayed. Yet the average audience see a man of dignity demonstrating democratic victory over tranny and transactional democracy.

This gathering of vultures is not a mere observation; it’s a call for reflection. Our culture, rich in history and tradition, is marred by those who choose to profit from its fragility. Instead of nurturing the vulnerable, we often find ourselves surrounded by entities ready to exploit these moments, turning them into spectacles for personal or political gain. Just like _agberocracy_ will plant every man mentored to believe in her system of governance and empowerment at every bus stops and streets to take charge of the corridor, so is our referred political party being hijacked by political jobbers and jabbers, trying to dominate every political space in our nation, planting their men in every available sustainable political party and lying in wait for directions and actions at the right time when _'Oga'_ as he is fondly called will shoot the gun. They have a three-pronged mission; Dominate, Amalgamate, Capitulate and Stimulate for Atikulation or Batification.

The sculpture—the embodiment of our cultural and political heritage—stands as a reminder of what was once vibrant and full of life. Yet, as vultures continue to perch, we must question: What happens to the essence of our culture when it is overshadowed by opportunism? How many more 'clinically dead' souls will we allow to be consumed before we stand up against this predation?

It is time we acknowledge these vultures for what they are and challenge their presence in our society. We must cultivate a culture that fosters life rather than feeds on death. This begins with honouring the vulnerable among us, not just in their suffering but in their potential for renewal. Just like the man led to his early grave by reason of the picture he took, resonating deeply in his mind later when he was observed and questioned at his happiest moment what he did to the dying child encircled by vultures in the desert as he simply replied 'I just left, I have a plane to catch's was his answer leaving the vulnerable child in danger. Moments later, he died. He couldn't live to bear the gory imagination of how the child left uncared for might have died.

In this critical moment, let us not be passive observers of our political culture's decline. Instead, let us take action to create a collective environment that safeguards the dignity of all individuals—one that repels the vultures and celebrates the resilience of humanity. Only then can we hope to restore our cultural sculpture and reclaim the narrative that has long been overshadowed by those waiting to swoop in at the first sign of weakness.

The vultures are indeed perching, but it is up to us to either allow them to feast or to rise together and defend the heart of our culture, nurturing it back to life with compassion, integrity, and unwavering resolve. Despite the fact that the political gladiators of our time are maneuvering and navigating their way deep inside the Labour Party, trying to hijack the new structure they once fractured, the rejected stone by the builders now the cornerstone that is legally on ground, waiting impatiently for her to breathe her last, ( bo ba d'ola, a ku ola) the news that will be the bitter spill to swallow for those who undermined and underestimated our political sagacity and activism, who wanted to gain where they do not pained, was that they knew those that help to water  the Iroko tree when it sprouted during the dry season rather than those who are promising waterbed in the rainy season after it has overgrown. The shadow of our tree is wide enough to accommodate all, why try to decapitate when you can help dress it up and be more attractive to those who are anticipating to have a date with the future not too far.

Press statement: OGUN STATE LABOUR PARTY CLARIFIES STANCE ON MEMBERSHIP AND PARTY DISCIPLINE

The Ogun State Chapter of the Labour Party has observed with concern the continued discussions and individual actions regarding political affiliations following recent national developments.

While we respect the right of every individual to political association, it is imperative to state the official position of the Labour Party in Ogun State unequivocally, to guide our members and maintain order within our ranks.

1. No Official Directive to Join ADC: The Senator Nenadi Usman-led Interim National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Labour Party has not issued any instruction urging members to decamp to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The national leadership's previously stated position was one of blessings for Mr. Peter Obi's engagement, not a blanket directive for party members.

2. Individual Volition: Consequently, any member who chooses to associate with or decamp to the ADC does so purely on their own volition and personal decision, not under any official mandate from the Labour Party.

3. Decamped Members Should Exit Honourably: In line with standard political practice and to avoid confusion, any member who has decided to decamp to the ADC is hereby advised to honourably exit the Labour Party platform. Holding concurrent membership in two political parties is untenable and against the spirit of focused political engagement.

4. Strict Platform Discipline: This platform and all official channels of the Ogun State Labour Party are dedicated solely to the affairs, programmes, and communications of our great party. The posting of ADC promotional materials, information, or activities on these official platforms will not be tolerated. Any member found violating this will be removed from the platform to preserve its purpose and integrity.

5. Call for Calm and Trust in Leadership: We reiterate our call for all loyal members to remain calm and steadfast. The state and national leadership are diligently working to consolidate, reorganize, and strategize for the future. We are navigating this period with clarity and will keep members informed of official decisions and pathways forward.

The Ogun State Labour Party is focused on strengthening its internal structures, growing its membership base, and preparing to offer the people of Ogun State a vibrant, people-centred alternative. We urge our members to direct their energies towards this collective state-building effort.

HOLD ON TO YOUR FOLD: PRESUMED C'OALITION IS NOT A MERGER — SOUTHWEST LP LEADERS

HOLD ON TO YOUR FOLD: PRESUMED C'OALITION IS NOT A MERGER — SOUTHWEST LP LEADERS

The leadership of the Labour Party in the SouthWest of Nigeria in an emergency meeting held on January 1st of this year, after keenly and carefully reviewing the most recent happening in the party concluded that though the leadership might be aware of the political talks in-between her former presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi, and wishes him success in his political aspirations,, that does not predetermined the fact that the Labour Party as a political party had an agreement with any political party to an extent of throwing away the party's identity and ideology to the waste bin. The region believes a political coalition is when parties coalesce and synergies to amass political gains at each others' interests and not at the detriment of  one coalition partner's interest,  as such should be led by party leadership not individual for personal interest or gains.

Here is the communique released at the end of the meeting: Labour Party South West Leadership Official Communiqué (Jan 1, 2026)

'"On Thursday, January 1, 2026, the Labour Party leadership in the South West convened an emergency strategic meeting to address the party’s deepening internal crisis especially in light of Peter Obi’s defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), along with other senior party officials.

The meeting resolved the following key points:

1. Information Flow from National Office: We demand immediate, transparent communication from the national leadership. The South West must never be left guessing where our leaders stand on national political issues. No more silence before decisions are made.

2. Nenadi Usman’s Stance & Interim Committees: the Nenadi Usman-led Labour Party fully endorses Obi’s move to the African Democratic Congress ADC. That it was pre-approved and strategic, not a betrayal. However, we insist on clarifying how this affects state-level interim committees. Also, Inaugurate the Interim State Working Committee ISWC NOW. No further delays. Restart membership validation drives across all states.

3. Rebuilding Party Structures: the crisis exposed weak ward, LGA, and state structures. The going forward is to stabilize first, then build. Coordinate logistics/materials for grassroots reactivation.

4. Alliances & Ideological Integrity: We support strategic coalitions with other parties but never at the cost of the Labour Party’s identity, foundation, or ideology. Any alliance must serve Nigerians, not just ambition.

5. Defining Leadership Direction: The National office must issue clear, binding directives to regional/state leaders on post-Obi exit. There has to be no more confusion. However,  one voice. One plan. Especially ahead of the Jan 19 court judgment.

6. Impending Court Judgment (Jan 19): This date is critical, and the outcome will determine the legitimacy of Usman vs Abure leadership. Also, determine the legal standing of Obi’s ADC move and the future of LP’s national structure.

7. Guarding the Party: the diehard members must protect LP from opportunists and political merchants exploiting the chaos. Ŵe have to stay vigilant, and steadfast.

8. United South West Front: the South West leaders must speak with ONE voice united, unequivocal, and formidable. We have to present a clear, collective position on all political complexities.

9. Membership Drive & Revalidation: the earlier the better we immediately launch, coordinate, and start registration/revalidation. We suggest we go digital cum physical channels. And mainly we target youth, women at home, and in the diaspora.

10. Logistics & Materials Chart: There is a strong need to draft a state-by-state plan for the registration kits, banners, and flyers. While doing this we have to consider mobilizer transport, data capture technology, and security. Moreover, the timeline is significant probably 2 weeks to rollout, 4 weeks to complete the exercise.

Expectations:

The South West leadership’s resolve is crystal clear: we stand firmly behind Senator Nenadi Esther Usman’s Labour Party however that loyalty hinges on bridging the communication chasm and getting real-time, actionable direction from the national office. We’re not just pledging support; we’re demanding clarity, responsiveness, and accountability especially on the 10 critical points raised in our Jan 1 meeting. Until the national leadership treats us as partners not spectators our solidarity remains conditional. Let’s turn talk; into action: respond, implement, and rebuild together."

BREAKING: Ogun Labour Party Issues Red Alert – Engagement with Abure, Arabambi Poses Legal Risks, Supreme Court Ruling Confirms

BREAKING: Ogun Labour Party Issues Red Alert – Engagement with Abure, Arabambi Poses Legal Risks, Supreme Court Ruling Confirms

By Glasgow Kika

Apagun

ABEOKUTA  — The crisis within the Labour Party (LP) in Ogun State has reached a boiling point, with the party's legitimate leadership issuing a stark warning to the public, institutions, and its members: "any dealings with ousted former National Chairman Julius Abure and his expelled associate Abayomi Arabambi are fraught with significant legal and financial risks."

This alert comes in response to Arabambi's recent attempt to establish a parallel "caretaker committee" in Abeokuta, a move condemned by the legitimate executive, led by the Chairman, Apagun Olaolu Samuel. This action has been denounced as criminal impersonation and lacks any legal standing, as Samuel's leadership is recognized by the Senator Nenadi Usman-led National Interim Executive Committee.

Supreme Court Ruling: Abure’s Authority Nullified

In a revealing and explosive interview on Fresh FM's "OSAN MONDAY Ayinla Egba's program, Apagun Olaolu Samuel underscored the severity of the crisis, emphasizing a landmark Supreme Court ruling from April 4, 2025, which invalidated Abure's claim to leadership. "Those aligned with Arabambi are loyal to a discredited figure; the Supreme Court has decisively sacked Abure," Samuel stated.

The ruling confirms that leadership is an internal party matter and dismantles any structure, appointments, or committees instituted by Abure as null and void. Hence, Abure should by now concern himself with the case of Perjury, Forgery and Criminal Conspiracy imminently hanging on his neck since 7th of March 2025 as issued by the Attorney General of the federation and the IGP should dust out the file to do the needful as in a normal clime.

Defining Legitimacy in Ogun LP

The situation has clarified the distinctions between legitimate and illegitimate leadership within the party:

- **Legitimate Leadership:** The Interim State Working Committee, led by Apagun Olaolu Samuel and recognized by national party authorities.

- **Illegitimate Actors:**

  - **Julius Abure:** Ousted chairman with no legal authority.

  - **Abayomi Arabambi:** Expelled member, currently unauthorized to engage in any party-related activities. "His expulsion from the Labour Party is final," affirmed Samuel.

 Legal Actions on the Horizon

Samuel emphasized the commitment of the legitimate party to pursue continuous legal action against the imposters. "The South West leaders of the Labour Party might be provoked to seeking an injunction to prevent Abure and his appointees from misrepresenting themselves as party executives," he announced.

This expected injunction, alongside the Supreme Court ruling, aims to curtail the activities of these individuals, enabling law enforcement to intervene if necessary.

 Public Advisory: Risks of Association

The interim leadership of Ogun State Labour Party has highlighted the severe repercussions for anyone—members, aspirants, or contractors—who engage with the Abure/Arabambi faction:

1. **Legal Nullity:** Any contracts or agreements made with them are void and unenforceable.

2. **Financial Risk:** Funds paid to this faction are at risk of loss, as the legitimate party will not honor these transactions.

3. **Political Consequences:** Aspirants engaging with this illegitimate group face disqualification and potential expulsion from the Labour Party.

4. **Criminal Liability:** Supporting individuals involved in impersonation can lead to criminal charges.

 A Call for Vigilance

Apagun Olaolu Samuel urges:

- **The Public & Media:** Verify the authenticity of any party representatives, and regard all statements from Arabambi as fraudulent.

- **Security Agencies:** Remain alert to these activities to prevent public disturbances and investigate impersonation claims.

- **INEC & Government Entities:** Collaborate only with the recognized leadership by law as proclaimed through Supreme Court judgement in favour of Senator Nenadi Usman.

"The Labour Party in Ogun State remains united, focused on serving the people," concluded Apagun Olaolu Samuel. "We refuse to be swayed by the actions of those whose time has passed. The law is on our side, and our future is solidly grounded in legitimacy."

SUCCESSFUL FAILURE: The Paradox of a Political Tramp

SUCCESSFUL FAILURE: The Paradox of a Political Tramp

Apagun

"Ile njo, asiwere nlánlá fún agbara. . . Wọnni ṣe ohun tó kàn nìyẹn, ọ ni toun ni won yóò padà sé kehin"

Literally, a big conflagration is busy consuming a mansion, and a foolish man is busy making trenches, when the foolish man was being challenged of his actions, he laughed hysterically and asserted that it's his actions they will all adopt at the end of the day.

In the complex tapestry of human experiences, the phrase “successful failure” encapsulates the journey of a man whose overestimation of his own cleverness led to gradual self-destruction. This is the story of a political tramp—a figure who, in his quest for success, ingeniously orchestrated his own downfall through a series of misguided choices. It can only be best imagine for someone to put the chariot before the horse or be engulfed in misplacement of priorities or better still misguided actions or inactions.

*The Dream of a Mansion*

The story of Obalola started when he was born, though from a noble home, Ifa priest was consulted for divination and spiritual guidance in respect of the new born baby, the priest said he will be king in the nearest future, and a child that will beckons on one while thousands will answer him, but bàbá warned that:

_"Eni aja ba wa, oun laja nba lo, a dífá fún èjì koko ìwòrì, tii tẹju mọ akapo rẹ girigiri, ifa tẹju mọmi, ọ womi rẹ, b'eji koko ìwòrì tìí tẹjú mọ akápò rẹ girigiri"_

The oracle made attestation to the fact that the child in question named Obalola will surely be king but must be focused, and must not engage in divided loyalty, he further stated that _"okan pin-un l'obinrin dun mo, bo ba di meji a d'owu, bo ba di meta a di etaanu, bo di merin a d'ẹrin woroko. . . '_

The man, Obalola, envisioned a life of grandeur—a mansion filled with luxury, power, and admiration. Yet, rather than laying the groundwork to achieve his dreams through hard work and dedication, Obalola chose to dwell in a fantasy world. He believed Mo on the prophecy rather than the process of walking the talk. He was enamored with the idea of success, but utterly unprepared to build the foundation required to realize it. He imagined himself being hosted in extravagant parties and programs home, and abroad. Hosting guest in his opulent home, surrounded by the accolades of political allies and the envy of his adversaries. However, dreams do not construct themselves, and reality would prove unforgiving, as _"eni ọ ṣe bii alaaru l'oyingbo, ko le se bíi Ajigboro l'ọja Oba"_ meaning, he who did not work himself tirelessly like a pawn in Oyingbo market cannot walk majestically like Ajigboro at the King's market

*The Illusion of Smart Choices*

Believing he could outsmart the system, processes and the principles, Obalola devised a strategy he thought was foolproof. He attempted to manipulate the political landscape, often opting for shortcuts at the expense of genuine development. Rather than engaging in meaningful dialogue with constituents or secretly investing in his political party that would later be the platform for his kingship, he resorted to moving without direction, dashing out giveaways outside his immediate constituency . The allure of apparent success clouded his judgment, as he convinced himself that the prophecy is sure, that these tactics would secure his position of power. Ironically, in his pursuit of being clever, he outsmarted himself. Yoruba rightly concluded that _'when wisdom gymnastically jump over Iroko and Boabab trees, she will disgracefully landed herself at the backyard of foolishness'._

The truth, however, is that brilliance without substance is hollow. His clever maneuvers alienated not just his supporters but also those who once believed in his vision. Many destines that were attached to his dreams were bruised and disillusioned. While trying to play the game, for name and fame same way he was known for, he failed to realize that true leadership requires commitment, integrity, and a willingness to face adversity. He forgot the game changer who specializes in altering rules of the game is right inside the pitch against him, visibly controlling the referees and the supposedly unbiased umpire who are now eating the crumbs from the table of the Emperor.

 *The Price of Avoidance*

Obalola's fear of injury led him to avoid the political fights that would forge respect and rapport. He craved the trophy of a winner—a position of authority and recognition—yet shied away from the battles necessary to earn it. Each time a challenge presented itself, he would sidestep it, hoping that with enough avoidance, he could change the narrative, emerge victorious without the scars of conflict. This approach left him stagnant, and the accolades he desired became increasingly elusive.

In essence, he sought to claim a win while remaining untested, ultimately exposing the fragility of his ambitions. The unwillingness to engage meant he never stood firm for his beliefs, and as a result, he lost the chance to inspire others, weakening his platform, by unnecessarily starving them of funds, and leaving himself vulnerable to those more willing to fight for their convictions.

*The Cost of Complicity*

Despite working diligently day and night, Obalola became complicit in eroding the very foundation of what he sought to build. In focusing solely on future aspirations—a mansion of influence and prosperity—he neglected the present, sabotaging his own efforts. The overextension in chasing dreams without investing in reality took a toll. Relationships soured, trust dissipated, weaknesses exposed with time, and his political aspirations became a mirage.

Working tirelessly without purpose culminated in a paradox: his perpetual endeavour to secure a bright future paradoxically led to the destruction of the very opportunities present today. Instead of solidifying his position, he unwittingly undermined it by failing to cultivate genuine connections and delivering on promises. When his followers needed a word in season, he kept mute, dragging his feet as he wallowed in valley of decision, unnecessarily delaying in allaying our fears as his shadows were being double cast, he seems to appears or being represented in several political platforms. Who is this man, and who can outrightly understands his ways?

*The Realization*

Ultimately, Obalola’s story is a cautionary tale. Successful failure embodies the delicate balance between ambition and reality. His journey serves as a stark reminder that success requires more than clever manipulation and dreams of grandeur; it demands hard work, resilience, and the willingness to engage with the present.

As he stands at the precipice of his political career, pondering the remnants of his ambitions, Obalola is left questioning whether the fantasy of a mansion was worth the price of his integrity and prospects. The lesson is clear: one cannot build a future on the foundations of avoidance and illusion. True success is achieved through authenticity, grit, and a commitment to facing the battles ahead, not by simply wishing for a mansion without laying any bricks, and walking away as a trademark at any point of stiff opposition and imaginary danger. Somebody rightly stated emphatically; power is not served, it is deserved, fought for and won.

In a world where many aspire for the accolades without effort, Obalola's tale serves as a poignant reminder that genuine achievement is rooted in reality—what we build today ultimately shapes the legacy of tomorrow and not by surreptitiously implanting some people to supplant a host in the nearest future, that the Yoruba proverb may not ultimately come to pass as they believed "Obalola may never becomes the king".

Labour Party: The Patriots and the Traitors, A Tale of Loyalty and Betrayal

Labour Party: The Patriots and the Traitors, A Tale of Loyalty and Betrayal

By Apagun Olaolu Samuel

Apagun

History is often defined by stark contrasts, with figures emerging as either champions of their cause or betrayers of their ideals. The dichotomy of patriots and traitors is a powerful narrative that reflects the complexities of loyalty, identity, and moral dilemmas within societies. This article explores what motivates these individuals, the impact of their actions, and the lessons we can draw from their stories.

The Patriots: Defenders of Ideals

Patriots are typically characterized by their unwavering commitment to a cause, a nation, or a community. They are individuals who stand up for their beliefs, often at great personal risk, driven by a vision of a better future. The passion and sacrifice of patriots can ignite movements and inspire generations.

Throughout history, many have been celebrated as heroes for their courage and sacrifice. Figures like George Washington, Mahatma Gandhi, and Nelson Mandela exemplify patriotism by fighting for freedom, justice, and the rights of their people. They rallied their communities, becoming symbols of hope and resilience. The motivation behind their patriotism often stems from a deep-seated love for their homeland and a commitment to the common good.

However, it is essential to recognize that patriotism can also be a double-edged sword. In some cases, it leads to exclusionary practices or justifications for violence against perceived enemies. The challenge lies in balancing devotion to one's country with the principles of inclusivity and justice for all.

The Traitors: The Shadow of Betrayal

In contrast, traitors are often portrayed as individuals who abandon their principles, betray their communities, or side with oppressors. The term evokes strong emotions and is frequently used to vilify those who oppose the dominant narrative. However, the motivations behind acts of perceived treachery can be complex.

There are instances where individuals label themselves as traitors because they challenge the status quo, advocating for change that is necessary but unpopular. Historical figures like Benedict Arnold, who defected during the American Revolution, are often reviled for their actions. Yet, what is often overlooked is the internal struggle they faced, the circumstances leading to their decisions, and the potential necessity of their actions within a wider context.

Some traitors may act out of self-preservation, coercion, or manipulation, making their motivations more sympathetic in some narratives. For instance, individuals who collaborated with occupying forces during wartime may do so under duress, with their choices reflecting the harsh realities of survival.

The Intersection of Loyalty and Betrayal

The lines between patriotism and betrayal can often blur, with historical perspectives influencing how we interpret these identities. Betrayal is not always clear-cut; each individual's circumstances and motives shape their actions. What one group may see as treason, another may view as a courageous stand for justice.

Moreover, societal values shift over time, prompting a reevaluation of who is deemed a patriot or traitor. For example, many civil rights activists faced condemnation in their time but are now celebrated for their efforts to push society toward equality and justice. Thus, the narrative of patriots and traitors is not merely about actions but also about the societal context and perceptions that surround them. But in our own case as a political party, crafting the ideals and ideology of a political party has now become the simplest thing, but been ignored seems to be the starting point of political traitors, manipulating constitution of a political party.

Some years back, after the demise of the late Chairman of the Labour Party, a treacherous act was implanted in Mr. Sunday Abayomi Onigbinde popularly known as Arabambi to nominate Mr. Julius Abure as the National Chairman against the constitutional provision of making the first Deputy Chairman an automatic Chairman. The seed was sown in deep darkness when men were asleep, by dawn the job had been perfected and sealed. Because of the manner by which Abure came in, he became a fish bone hanging in our oesophagus, with the aid of Arabambi, believed to be his henchman, the indivisible twins toying with the destiny of millions of the citizens of Nigeria who so much believed in the rescue mission of the Labour Party.

As we are battling with the duo of Arabambi and Abure, another deadly snake is rearing her ugly head up, a man widely believed to be a mentee of Arabambi, who took him from Ogun State to contest in Lagos State under the banner of our party, who was believed to be preparing ground for Arabambi peradventure we wriggle the keys of the national Secretariat out of the dirty hands of Abure, having succefully implanted four out of the five slots given to the southwest in the recently released Interim National Working Committee and who was believed to have submitted a parallel Interim State Working Committee's name across the states in the southwest, a self acclaimed southwest leader of the Labour Party, a member of the house of representative from Ọjọ Constituency in Lagos, Hon. Seyi Sówùnmí.

This man has been working against the party by trying to be the only one nominating who must be who across the southwest. Let it be clearly known that we are no longer in the dispensation of dashing out political offices to girlfriends and family members but those who truly deserves it unlike that of Lagos State. We are on the lookout, any attempt by him to corner the party to his side shall be vehemently opposed. _Ani ka pa awọn ẹjọ, koro ọ tán, sebe loun saba lowo, ibà bimo náà tán nko, kilo féé ya?

Arabambi and his co-travellers are the greatest undoings of the Labour party. They have no intention of winning but of dining and wining with the APC's. It has become an opened secret that wherever you see Yayi, the upcoming gubernatorial candidate of APC for 2027 in Ogun State, you see Arabambi, working for his emergence. Who does that? And such a person is been acclaimed to be the Deputy National Chairman, an office for negotiations?

The tale of patriots and traitors challenges us to think critically about loyalty and sacrifice. It compels us to consider the motivations behind our actions and the consequences they may bring. As societies navigate conflicts and change, the legacies of both patriots and traitors remind us of the need for dialogue, empathy, and understanding in the pursuit of justice and truth.

In an increasingly polarized world, recognizing the nuanced motivations behind both loyalty and betrayal can foster a more compassionate understanding of history and an appreciation for the complexities of human nature. Ultimately, the stories of patriots and traitors serve as powerful reminders of our shared humanity and the enduring struggle for a better world.

*Petition Against Hon. Seyi Showunmi’s Unilateral Actions in the Southwest Region*

Dear Madam,

I am writing to formally express my concerns regarding the unilateral political activities of Hon. Seyi Showunmi within the Southwest region. It has come to my attention that he has been nominating members of the interim national working committee for the Southwest without proper consultation, with the exception of Ogun State, which has been an integral part of our party from the beginning.

Furthermore, it is alarming that he is also presenting nominations for the state working committees without engaging with key stakeholders and local party members. He claims to represent the Southwest leadership of the Labour Party, yet his actions suggest a self-serving agenda which undermines our democratic principles.

His antecedents in Lagos are also a clear example of his undemocratic tendencies.

If these actions continue unchecked, we risk creating a similar situation to that of Abayomi Arabambi, wherein one individual manipulates the party framework to benefit personal interests rather than those of all party members throughout the region. It is crucial to note that Hon. Showunmi’s jurisdiction is limited primarily to his role as a House of Representatives member in the OJO Constituency in Lagos. His attempts to exert influence across the Southwest should be scrutinized before he succeeds in destabilizing the Party.

We urge the national body to take immediate action to address these issues and ensure a fair and representative process for all nominations within the Labour Party in the Southwest. It is essential that we uphold the core values of democracy, inclusivity, and collaboration that our party represents.

Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. I look forward to your prompt response.

Yours faithfully,

*Apagun Olaolu Samuel*
