OPPOSITION LEADERS ADOPT ADC TO UNSEAT TINUBU, NAMES DAVID MARK, AREGBESOLA AS PROTEM LEADERS

OPPOSITION LEADERS ADOPT ADC TO UNSEAT TINUBU, NAMES DAVID MARK, AREGBESOLA AS PROTEM LEADERS

After a high-level meeting in Abuja in Tuesday, major opposition coalition of political heavyweights in Nigeria  ahead of the 2027 general elections have adopted a New party to rescue the country from the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led APC federal government.

The realignment of Nigeria’s political landscape, top opposition leaders adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as their new political platform, nominating former Senate President David Mark as the party’s protem national chairman and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as protem national secretary.

Prominent leaders present at the meeting of the official adoption of ADC include former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, former All Progressives Congress National Chairman John Oyegun, former Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Cross River Governor Liyel Imoke, and former House Speaker and ex-Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal.

Others in attendance include influential political figures like Kashim Imam and other senior stakeholders from across the political spectrum.

Sources at the meeting described the development as a convergence of politicians from across party lines, driven by a shared determination to unseat President Bola Tinubu and dislodge the ruling APC in the 2027 elections.

The coalition includes former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, among others.

They argue that President Tinubu’s administration has failed to deliver on its promises, citing economic hardship, insecurity, and what they call “renewed hardship” instead of “renewed hope”.

The coalition aims to unify opposition forces across party lines to present a single, formidable candidate in 2027. Their rhetoric frames the movement as a rescue mission rather than just a political contest.

In June 2025, the coalition applied to register a new party called the All Democratic Alliance (ADA) with INEC. The application included a constitution, manifesto, and a maize-themed logo symbolsiing prosperity.

Two different groups submitted applications for parties with the ADA acronym—All Democratic Alliance and Advanced Democratic Alliance—which could complicate approval.

Facing delays and uncertainty around ADA’s registration, the coalition has now adopted the ADC as its platform.

This is getting very interesting! What happened in 2015 general elections, is it going to repeat itself in 2027?

It'll Be Good If Peter Obi Takes Coalition Ticket, Obi And Atiku’s Deal Not Possible—Lawal

It'll Be Good If Peter Obi Takes Coalition Ticket, Obi And Atiku’s Deal Not Possible—Lawal

Babachir Lawal

A former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal has stated that the new opposition coalition is not focused on making Atiku Abubakar the presidential candidate, during an interview with news men.

The former SGF explained that the coalition is not built around one person, but around a collective effort to build a strong platform for the 2027 elections.

According to Lawal, it is wrong to think the group is pushing only Atiku and noted that other politicians with presidential ambitions are also part of the talks.

He mentioned Peter Obi, who was a presidential candidate in 2023, and Rotimi Amaechi, who ran in the APC primary and came second.

Lawal questioned why people think Peter Obi or Amaechi would support a plan that only benefits Atiku.

He said they are part of the meetings because they believed in building a fair and open political system.

He added that his own support in 2023 was for Peter Obi, and he has not changed sides.

Lawal also said not everyone in the coalition wants to be president.

Some are interested in running for the House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, or governor in their states.

They simply want a platform where they have a fair chance.

He explained that the coalition will hold a national convention.

There, they will choose leaders who will guide the selection of candidates.

The goal is to allow a democratic process to produce the presidential candidate, not handpick one.

He said Atiku is only one of the active members, and his efforts are seen more because he strongly believes in building a strong opposition.

On the rumours of a secret deal between Atiku and Peter Obi, Lawal said clearly, “It isn’t possible.”

"Why should it be about Atiku? I know some of the people that I suspect, have presidential ambition that are attending the meetings. Peter Obi is there as a presidential candidate himself, and I can’t see why he would join a coalition to build up a system that will benefit only Atiku. I suspect too that Amaechi has a presidential ambition.

It will be good for Peter Obi if he takes the ticket. For me, I am coming into this merger from the background of somebody who worked very, very hard in 2023 to make Peter Obi president.

We have heard speculation about Peter Obi and Atiku’s deal, it isn’t possible!" Lawal said.

POEM Deepens...
If you had time to study the HE Peter Obi and Labour Party final address on one hand and the HE Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party's own on the other, one would notice a path of unity in almost all arguments. Both addresses were in response to HE Bola Ahmed Tinubu and HE Kashim Shettima's own final address in defence of the heist called the February 25 presidential election conducted by the Prof Mahmood Yakubu-led Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Both petitioners' sets of legal teams brushed aside the arrogance, provocation and threats from the rabble-rousing team led by Wole Olanipekun, SAN to dwell on issues of their respective petitions. Drawing from both the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and the 2022 Electoral Act, both teams cleanly pushed the dagger through the arteries of the Respondents by providing proofs evidently beyond every reasonable doubt in matters relating to non-compliance, Tinubu's drug-related forfeiture business, forgery of certificates, Shettima's double nomination and the matter of 25% votes in the Federal Capital Territory.

Most interesting of the arguments can be enjoyed from digesting the submissions both ventilated while supplying proofs upon proofs, including citations, of the intentions of the drafters of the constitution by the use of *AND* in reference to 25% of the votes cast in at least ⅔ of the 36 states of the Federation and the FCT, Abuja.

Though choosing their different sets of words, both teams arrived at exactly the same conclusion - any president of Nigeria *MUST* obtain at least 25% of the total number of the votes cast at the FCT in addition to other constitutional requirements, to be declared president-elect. Tinubu did not, and both parties are crying foul.

It is significant to note here that even when Atiku and the PDP did not get up to the required 25% votes in FCT, they stoutly defended the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Kudos to Atiku, the PDP and their legal team for insisting on the right thing even when they would not benefit directly from the move. A new Nigeria is indeed POssible!

The Justice Haruna Tsammani-led five-man Tribunal is on the spotlight. Expectations are quite high that they should rise to the occasion and deliver equitable justice. The nation is all eyes as much as the international communities, especially the European Union, who sunk a whopping €38 million into the exercise, having been convinced by Prof Yakubu and his INEC that the election was going to be free, fair and credible.

Tsammani has the yearning chance to clean up the mess of Yakubu and let the country enjoy the confidence of the EU and the watching world. No country lives in isolation from the rest of the world, and a country of over 200 million should not be an exception.

#2023Election: Let Atiku Answer this Question and stop his useless campaigns

*👆🏽An intelligent Nigerian youth slammed Alhaji Atiku Abubakar with a difficult question, quoting the former President Olusegun Obasanjo's recommendations about his personality in his book, "My Watch",  Pages 31-32.*

*This is what the former President Olusegun Obasanjo wrote about Atiku 👇*

"What I did not know, which came out glaringly later, was his parental background which was somewhat shadowy, his propensity to corruption, his tendency to disloyalty, his inability to say and stick to the truth all the time,a propensity for poor judgment, his belief and reliance on marabouts , his lack of transparency, his trust in money to buy his way out on all issues and his readiness to sacrifice morality, integrity, propriety truth and national interest for self and selfish interest."

The smart youth placed Atiku in a very tight corner by asking him;

"If you're an employer, and someone came with such a bad recommendation your principal  wrote about you, will you go ahead to employ the person in your company?

I feel bad for Nigeria!

We're ignorant of truths contained in books, perhaps because we don't read books.

How can we employ such a person with a terrible written submission from his former manager to be our President?

*God forbid Mr. Corruption!
