CIA Director John Ratcliffe of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) travelled to Moscow for unannounced talks, the BBC's US news partner CBS has reported.

He made a rare, unannounced visit to Moscow on August 25, 2026, meeting with Russian intelligence counterparts at Vnukovo Airport.

Neither Washington or Moscow have confirmed the nature of the visit or who he was due to meet.

According to a report, the secretive trip—which bypassed a meeting with Vladimir Putin—prompted Washington to ask Ukraine for a brief localized halt on regional drone strikes.

A U.S. military aircraft transported the CIA delegation to Moscow's Vnukovo airport on Tuesday, August 25, before departing later that day.

Ratcliffe held discussions with Russian security and intelligence officials, marking a rare high-level physical presence of a U.S. spy chief in the Russian capital.

U.S. officials requested that Ukraine temporarily suspend air strikes targeting Moscow, St. Petersburg, and select northern zones while the delegation was in transit.


Flight tracking data confirmed a large US military aircraft travelled to Russia from the US via Latvia on Tuesday. It departed later on Tuesday.

Footage posted on social media showed the C-17 transport plane approaching Moscow's Vnukovo international airport.

It departed Riga airport at 05:50 GMT and appeared to have landed in the Russian capital at around 07:04 GMT, according to data from FlightRadar24. It returned to Riga shortly before 17:00 GMT.

According to Donald Trump, US will "substantially reduce" joint military exercises with South Korea, citing his "very good relationship" with North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un.

He also noted on Truth Social that South Korea had recently declined to join the US in the "denuclearisation" of Iran.

"These exercises are not only costly, with much of these costs paid for by the United States of America (as usual!), but send a signal that is totally inappropriate and hostile," Trump posted.

I called the president of South Korea. I said, “Would you help with Iran? If you would like, we don’t need help.” He said, “No thanks.”

I said, “What do you mean? We have 39,000 soldiers over there guarding you from Kim Jong Un, and you are not going to help us with Iran? That’s strange.”

Then why are we involved with helping you? Protecting South Korea is costing us billions of dollars.

Seoul said it was reviewing Trump's comments, adding it hoped a favourable relationship between Washington and Pyongyang could lead to meaningful talks. Pyongyang has not yet commented.

Earlier, South Korea said the drills with the US would proceed "as scheduled".

It comes after North Korea this month conducted ballistic missile tests prohibited by the United States

He also noted on Truth Social that South Korea had recently declined to join the US in the "denuclearisation" of Iran.

Trump on Sunday said it was "too late to cancel", as the US and South Korea were due to start their annual military exercises on Monday. "While somewhat unrelated (?), I recently asked the President of South Korea if they would like to join us in the Denuclearization of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and they said, 'No thanks!'"

Trump's announcement came less than 24 hours after he posted an old photograph of himself and Kim from 2019, writing the two were great friends.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Monday, Trump explicitly linked his decision to South Korea's refusal to "give us a little hand" with Iran. We have 39,000 soldiers over there guarding you from Kim Jong Un, your next door neighbour, and you're not going to help us on a very easy military operation in Iran," he said. "That's strange".

"All I want is fairness," he later added.

In its statement, South Korea's presidential Blue House said it would continue diplomatic consultations on US-Korea military cooperation related to the Strait of Hormuz, while discussing details on joint military drills with the United States.

According to a BBC report, experts suggest the walking back of joint military exercises could carry a high cost with relatively little benefit.

"US-South Korea combined defence exercises are essential for military forces to be ready and capable of doing their jobs," said Leif-Eric Easley, a professor at Ewha University in Seoul.

Scaling them back can damage alliance coordination, slow the process of South Korea taking on greater responsibility for its own defence, and weaken deterrence against possible conflicts in Asia.

"The cost savings from downsizing drills are marginal, while the diplomatic benefits for relations with North Korea are doubtful."

Last week, US and South Korean military leaders held a joint press conference announcing Ulchi Freedom Shield.

They said the 11-day event would be similar in scale to previous years, with about 18,000 South Korean soldiers participation 

During the news conference, military leaders also mentioned North Korea's deployment of troops to aid Russia's war against Ukraine.

US military spokesperson Ryan Donald said "our training accounts for that threat", referring to North Korean soldiers returning from the battlefield. About 28,500 American military personnel are stationed in South Korea.

On Friday, North Korea's foreign ministry condemned the joint military drills as "a rehearsal for an aggressive war".

Pyongyang has accelerated efforts to expand its nuclear and missile programmes since the collapse in 2019 of Kim's high-profile diplomacy with Trump during his first term in the White House.

He became the first ever sitting US president to set foot in North Korea when he visited seven years ago.

For Seoul, Trump's post is a mixed message. On the one hand, they have been requesting Trump engage with Pyongyang and the post raises hope that he might bring Kim back to the table

But Trump is also hinting that he is unhappy with South Korea's unwillingness to make direct military or logistical contributions to the US hostilities with Iran.

He has also expressed displeasure with other allies for their hesitance to get involved in the conflict, including Japan, France and the UK.

Trump's move to downsize joint military exercises with South Korea is not without precedent.

He suspended the exercises entirely in 2018, during denuclearisation negotiations with Kim. He said at the time that the annual drills were "provocative" towards North Korea and stopping the "war games" would save the US a "tremendous amount of money."

The exercises were again scaled back in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic.

It was predicted that President Trump would suspend or scale down US-SK joint exercise, or even reduce the size of US troops in Korea.

Last week, South Korea's president proposed talks with its northern neighbour on officially ending the war between the two, which is technically still active since an armistice was signed in 1953

Trump has noted multiple times in the past that the US is providing security to South Korea without getting much in return.

He has criticised the number of troops it has stationed in the peninsula and the money spent.

This has complicated Washington's relationship with Seoul, which sees the troops as core to its alliance with the US.

Seoul tried to defuse the tension earlier this year, committing $350bn to investing in the US. And last year President Lee Jae Myung described Trump as a peacemaker.

According to reports by Military Times, the sailors are in a terrible state of catastrophic mental health crisis. They have reached breaking point over exhaustion, food shortages, water contamination, deteriorating conditions, supply shortages, lack of basic hygiene products, and poor-quality rations aboard the carrier, per Military Times.

More than majority of the US sailors and  Marines have been facing chronic depression as there is no immediate end in sight in their deployment to the terrible middle east where Iran has been conveniently challenging the American claims of superpower.

The around 5,000 sailors and Marines have been deployed at sea for more than 250 consecutive days (over 9 months) without making land due to the ongoing Iran war.

With their deployment originally anticipated to end in May but now extended with no publicly announced return date. Families describe conditions aboard as "hellish."


US CENTCOM commanders warn of an impending mutiny if conditions aboard the ship don't change for the better as Iranian strikes on US military bases have severely disrupted US military logistics for the deployed sailors and Marines.


Loma, who lives in San Diego, said her husband had been repeatedly overextended before he tried to jump from the carrier.


“He’s scared,” Loma said. “He thinks he’ll get a dishonorable discharge, and just because he was burnt out, his 13-year career is ruined, just like that. That’s not fair, that’s not right. That’s not what he should be worrying about right now.”


Loma said she initially received a call from the ship’s ombudsman after the incident but has not heard from anyone with the Navy in recent weeks.

Lincoln’s roughly 5,000 sailors and Marines remain on a deployment that began Nov. 21. The carrier has been deployed for more than eight months while supporting U.S. military operations in the Middle East against Iran.

In a separate incident aboard Lincoln, a sailor on watch saw a shipmate preparing to go overboard, and he intervened, according to the sailor’s wife, Maria Rodriguez.

Rodriguez said her husband called out to the sailor before reaching the individual and grabbing their arms, pulling them onto the deck. Her husband told her the sailor had not yet gone over the side when he got there. Three other sailors heard the commotion and came running to help.

“He said he hadn’t felt adrenaline like that in his life, and he was just so thankful he was able to get to [the sailor] in time, to stop them from going overboard,” Rodriguez said.


She did not know what happened to the sailor afterward.


Separately, Stars and Stripes reported Tuesday that sailors described an incident in which watchstanders stopped a crew member from jumping overboard. Stripes reported that the crew was informed about the incident through a shipwide announcement.


More than 200 family members attended a meeting in San Diego last week with acting Secretary of the Navy Hung Cao. During a separate virtual meeting later that evening, families raised concerns about sailors’ mental health, exhaustion and safety, according to recordings of the meeting reviewed by MS NOW.


Vice Adm. Joseph Cahill, commander of Naval Surface Forces, acknowledged the strain on sailors and their families during the virtual meeting.



“We hear you loud and clear [regarding] the impact this has on families, on service members and the long-term ability of us to stand, sustain our forces’ health,” Cahill said, according to MS NOW.



Cahill described deployment-resilience counselors and chaplains aboard warships, along with Human Factors Councils designed to review factors affecting sailors’ well-being and identify related risks.




The Navy has said Lincoln’s leadership is continuously assessing sailors’ psychological readiness and that the carrier has access to counselors, chaplains, medical professionals and other support services.



The Navy did not provide a precise number of sailors who have attempted to go overboard or engaged in self-harm aboard Lincoln during the current deployment.



Shelby Sanders, whose mother is serving aboard Lincoln, said connecting has been difficult over the past eight months. When her mother does manage to send a note, Sanders said, she can tell she’s struggling.



“When she can email me, she’s definitely down,” Sanders said. “I think they’ve had five weeks of non-stop combat operations or something like that, so that makes it really tough to communicate consistently or even know if we’ll be able to. It sucks.”



Sanders is preparing to begin her senior year of high school without knowing whether her mother will be home for the milestones that normally mark the year.



“I don’t know how to enjoy starting my senior year when my mom isn’t here, you know?” Sanders said. “Will she be back before homecoming? My birthday? Christmas? I have no idea, and that’s all that I think about.”



Manuel Guevara, whose son is serving aboard Lincoln, said he sounded exhausted, down and worried the last time they spoke.



“Us being out there keeps wars out of our country, but it sucks having your family away. It makes the homecoming that much sweeter, but the uncertainty of when that day will come starts to eat away at you,” Guevara said.



The Navy father said it is difficult to stay focused when he hears about problems aboard the ship and knows his son is worried about day-to-day circumstances, such as eating, doing laundry and having adequate living conditions.



“I don’t want to worry that the circumstances of this deployment will get the best of my son, and he doesn’t make it back home,” Guevara said. “That’s an unbearable burden on my heart.”



The Navy is preparing the USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group to relieve Lincoln, Cao told families at the San Diego meeting. Officials have not provided a timeline, however, citing operational security.



Meanwhile, Loma is caring for the couple’s three children, and her husband remains in medical hold.




“I’m trying to keep a happy face for our three kids,” she said. “They’re little, they miss their daddy, they just want to know mommy and daddy are okay. So I can’t just worry and break down, even though I want to — every single day.”




However, the US CENTCOM the report are false.

One report alleged seven Sailors died in a brawl aboard the aircraft carrier and others have recently suggested a spike in suicidal ideations. These reports are FALSE."

The Sailors and Marines of the Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group remain resilient and resolved after more than 260 days at sea, 10,000 aircraft flights, and 1.5 million pounds of ordnance expended. No service members aboard the aircraft carrier have died, and the one Sailor who fell overboard Aug. 3 was quickly and safely recovered. The rampant misreporting on Abraham Lincoln's historic deployment is a disservice to our men and women in uniform and their loved ones." 

The claims are contrary to the deployment of the new aircraft carriers by the Pentagon to the middle east. The war against Iran has been the most brutally difficult ever for the American forces since the end of the 2nd world war.

According to Israeli channel 15, Iran launches 2–5 drones every night at US ships and forces in the Strait of Hormuz, and that the US deliberately stays silent and hides the attacks including a recent drone strike on a US base in Kuwait to avoid escalation.




Pentagon has confirmed that the department has leaned on defense contractors to speed up weapons production and deliveries. Although while the military option against Iran proved abortive, the US forces are also experiencing shortage of munitions.




That the department of war embarked on direct engagement with industry leaders to accelerate production is nothing new... But from day one under Secretary Hegseth, this department has been laser-focused on transforming the speed, capability, and lethality of America's defense industrial base, and the 'Arsenal of Democracy,'" Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell told US media.




The Washington Post earlier reported, citing an internal memo, that the Pentagon had ordered contractors to accelerate arms and ammunition deliveries to US forces. Deputy Secretary Steven Feinberg, the paper noted, gave industry just 21 days to submit plans for a major surge in supply rates.




Pentagon spox also added that Feinberg is spearheading a overhaul of what he called a "broken, antiquated, and painfully bloated procurement system" — all to ensure the US can crank out weapons "at the tempo the threat demands."

The urgency stems from the grinding aggression against Iran, where US stockpiles are being drained faster than they can be replenished. NBC News, citing sources, reported that Pentagon leadership recently convened an emergency meeting over munitions shortages, shortly after President Trump personally called Feinberg, the logistics chief, to chew him out over the delays.

More than fifty thousand American service men have been deployed to the middle east for a possible ground invasion of the Islamic republic of Iran.




Already, Gulf energy producers have completely lost faith in the Trump administration and are quietly accepting Iran's permanent control over the Strait of Hormuz — because the alternative, returning to war, would be worse, per WSJ.

Tehran leadership and IRGC commanders have repeatedly said and affirmed that Strait of Hormuz will never returned to the pre US and Israeli unprovoked aggression against Iran.

Gulf states don't like the emerging deal that formalizes Iranian oversight of inbound ships. But they see it as "the least-bad option" compared to further military escalation, which would put their energy infrastructure at risk. The conflict has left the region — vital to global energy security — with no good option for countering Iran.




Crude exports through the Strait have collapsed to 2.2 million barrels per day from 8.5 million a month ago. Pre-war flows of roughly 20 million barrels per day are now a distant memory. Gulf states' alternative export routes are also under attack — Saudi Arabia's Red Sea pipeline hit by Houthi strikes, Egypt's Damietta port struck by drones.




Iranian officials have declared the new Iranian order in the Strait is "irreversible," and the U.S. has no alternative but to accept it or face "costs much greater than in the past." Iran already holds effective control over the strait, with commercial shippers refusing to cross without Tehran's assurance.




The WSJ's conclusion is stark: Gulf states are adapting to a new normal where Iran's veto over their energy exports is permanent. The U.S. has been pushed out of the Gulf militarily. And the alternative to accepting Iran's control — a return to full-scale war — is worse.

US Vice President JD Vance and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine both raised concerns about escalating the war in Iran as President Donald Trump weighed the possibility during a White House meeting on Friday, a source familiar with the matter and a US official told CNN.

Many of Mr. Trump’s advisers, including Jared Kushner, his son-in-law, say there is a plausible alternative pathway with less risk, e.i continuing negotiations and economic pressure on Iran over a longer period of time."

The US has proposed a temporary ceasefire with Iran to revive the suspended Memorandum of Understanding, possibly including Yemen and the Houthis.

Iran is reportedly unlikely to accept, having rejected all talks this week, while Trump has simultaneously warned of a massive upcoming US attack on Iran.

But what seemed to be of more truth is that Trump decided not to escalate the conflict with Iran, fearing that an extended war could deplete interceptor stockpiles, US officials said.

Already, during the last two weeks of attacks and retaliations, Iran’s IRGC claimed it destroyed 11 U.S. fighter jets and helicopters at regional military bases over the past 15 days. Ammunition depots of the US army in the middle east were targeted and destroyed with ballistic missiles by the Iran's IRGC 

Tehran also said additional aircraft, including an F-15, P-8, C-17 and refuelling planes, were destroyed, and claimed U.S. fatalities exceeded 200. These claims have not been independently verified.

Therefore, The U.S. concerns are that escalating the war could lead to a serious depletion of the Pentagon’s already declining stockpile of Patriot missiles and other air defense munitions in the Middle East which may result in more casualties and fatalities for the American soldiers.

General Dan Caine, warns Trump that a widespread escalation of operations against Iran could dangerously deplete the capabilities of the U.S. Central Command in the Middle East, and the President still prefers a diplomatic solution.


The New York Times reported on Saturday that Gen. Caine privately warned that resuming major combat operations against Iran is possible but could dangerously deplete US air defense supplies in the Middle East.

Expanded operations could reduce the availability of Patriot missile interceptors and other air defense systems used by US Central Command. The concerns were among factors considered by President Donald Trump and senior advisers as they weighed further escalation.


Military operations are currently "on hold," and the weapons shortages can only be attributed as the main reason behind the pause in strikes.


Trump said after the meeting that US officials continuing negotiations with Iran but warned that the military could resume or intensify its bombing campaign, while some Persian Gulf countries urged restraint as the administration weighed its options, the report added.


Diplomatic efforts between Iran and Oman aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz are reportedly making progress, although negotiators say more time is needed before any agreement can be finalized, according to two regional sources cited by CBS News.


The discussions are focused on restoring maritime access through the Strait of Hormuz and surrounding territorial waters, a critical route for global energy exports. The report also says the current pause in U.S. military operations is intended to avoid undermining the ongoing diplomatic process as regional mediators continue working toward a breakthrough.


The repeated Ceasefire request by the US in the war initiated by American is a short of strategy for re- equipments of weapons as continuous and further escalations mean fatalities and real blows to the northern hemisphere forces.

Iran’s recent strikes on three Amazon Web Services data centers in Bahrain show a shift in Tehran’s targeting strategy, Fars News reported.

The Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards said on Sunday that they had forced six vessels to stop in the Strait of Hormuz after issuing what they described as firm warnings, saying they had established "full control" over the strategic waterway.

The Guards' navy said vessels that violated its instructions were ordered to anchor after ignoring initial warnings.

An Iranian General, Abolfazl Shekarchi who is the spokesman for Iran’s army said on Sunday, the US has failed to achieve its goals “in the Strait of Hormuz and in weakening Iran”, adding that “the situation is chaotic and undesirable for America.”

Meanwhile, President Trump has rejected the reports that the US is running low on munitions in its campaign against Tehran. "We have far more munitions than anyone in the world, and far more than we need," he told The Wall Street Journal.

According to Trump, “President Xi, at our recent meeting in Beijing, China, told me that he would not, under any circumstances, give or sell Weapons to the Islamic Republic of Iran — And that statement included Chinese Companies,” Trump wrote, referring to Chinese President Xi Jinping.




He Said, “Considering our relationship, I take him at his word and, besides, l am doing him very big favors, also. Likewise, President Putin … told me that he would not sell Weapons to Iran.”




“Therefore, two major Countries that people speak of often in terms of Iran are, in my opinion, not participating. If they did, it would be very bad for them — Certainly not in their best interests.” He said.

The new duties will generally range from 10% to 12.5%, depending on whether the targeted economy has adopted or committed to adopt forced-labor import restrictions.

The measure applies to major US trading partners and is being introduced at President Donald Trump’s direction.

The additional duties are set to take effect on goods entering the US from July 24, 2026, with limited exemptions and a short transit exception for products alredy shipped.

The US aggression in the middle east against Iran continue, according to a report, US forces began a new wave of strikes against Iran at 6 a.m. ET on Wednesday, targeting military capabilities used to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, US Central Command said.

THE TOLL-KEEPER OF HORMUZ: HOW AMERICA JUST BURIED ITS OWN DOCTRINE

The most important response to Trump’s Hormuz announcement did not come from Beijing, Brussels or the United Nations. It came from Tehran, and it was four words long. “POTUS is absolutely right.”




That was Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, replying to the President’s declaration that the United States will henceforth be “THE GUARDIAN OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT” and will be “reimbursed” at the rate of 20% on all cargo transiting the waterway. Araghchi agreed that whoever secures the Strait deserves compensation — adding only that Iran has always been its true guardian, and that 20% was too much. Iran, he said, “will be fair.”

Understand what just happened. The two states now fighting for control of the world’s most important oil artery are no longer arguing about whether ships must pay tribute to pass. They are haggling over the rate.




For seventy-five years, the entire edifice of the “freedom of the seas” rested on the opposite principle. Yesterday, its chief architect demolished it in a single post.




I. WHAT THE LAW ACTUALLY SAYS




I practised shipping law for over three decades, and I want readers to grasp how radical this announcement is in legal terms.




The regime governing straits like Hormuz is called transit passage, codified in Part III of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. Its roots go back further, to the International Court of Justice’s very first case — Corfu Channel (1949) — where the Court held that warships and merchant vessels alike enjoy a right of passage through international straits that coastal states may not obstruct in peacetime.




Two pillars hold up this regime:




First, transit passage cannot be suspended. Not by the coastal state, not by anyone. Article 44 of UNCLOS is explicit.




Second — and this is the provision every reader should remember — passage cannot be taxed. Article 26 permits charges upon foreign ships only for specific services rendered to that ship, such as pilotage or towage. A general levy for the privilege of passing is flatly prohibited. Even for coastal states.




Now consider the American position. The United States has no coastline on the Strait of Hormuz. It is not even a party to UNCLOS — for four decades Washington has insisted that transit passage binds Iran as customary international law, enforced by the US Navy on behalf of all nations.




Oman and Iran, the actual littoral states, could not lawfully charge a single dollar for mere passage. The United States now proposes to charge twenty percent of cargo value — from ten thousand kilometres away — as a matter of what the President calls “FAIRNESS.”




That is not the enforcement of the international waterway doctrine. It is its replacement by tribute.




II. THE TRAP TEHRAN SPRANG




Here is where Araghchi’s four words become lethal.




Customary international law — the only legal basis America has ever had in Hormuz, since it never ratified UNCLOS — is formed by two elements: the consistent practice of states, and the belief that such practice is legally required (opinio juris).




When Iran instituted its permit-and-fee regime for the Strait earlier this year, Washington’s legal position was simple: no state may condition or charge for transit passage. Iran’s regime was unlawful per se.




That position is now dead. Killed not by Iranian missiles, but by an American post. If the “guardian” of the Strait may lawfully charge 20% for security services, then a fortiori the coastal state — with genuine sovereignty over the waters in question — may charge for the same service. Araghchi grasped this instantly. His reply conceded nothing and captured everything: you have adopted our legal theory; we now dispute only the price.




The United States has spent decades building the customary law of the sea through its own state practice. It is now dismantling that law by the same mechanism. Every future tribunal, every future crisis, every future power that wishes to tax a chokepoint — the Bosphorus, Malacca, Bab-el-Mandeb, the Panama approaches — will cite July 2026 as the moment the precedent was set by Washington itself.




III. A BLOCKADE WITHOUT A WAR: THE UNDERWRITER’S NIGHTMARE




There is a second legal absurdity buried in the announcement that only those of us from the maritime world will fully appreciate.




The President declared the reinstatement of “THE IRANIAN BLOCKADE” — stopping not only Iran’s ships but Iran’s customers. Blockade, in the law of naval warfare, is a belligerent right. It exists only in a state of armed conflict, it must be formally declared and notified, and it must be effective and impartial. The San Remo Manual sets out these requirements precisely.




Yet Washington simultaneously insists it is not at war with Iran.




Consider the position of a shipowner, a P&I club, or a war risk underwriter this morning. A “blockade” that is not a blockade, imposed by a state that is not a belligerent, targeting “customers” of Iran — an undefined class that could sweep in any tanker that has ever lifted Iranian crude. Meanwhile, Iran’s Persian Gulf Strait Authority has declared passage “currently unfeasible” and maintains that its own permit system is the sole lawful route through the Strait.




Two sovereigns. Two permitting regimes. One body of water. Every vessel in the Gulf now sails under competing assertions of authority, each of which the other deems an act of war. War risk premiums do not price legal theory — they price uncertainty. And there has never been uncertainty like this.




IV. THE GUARDIAN AND THE PROTECTION RACKET




Readers of this page know my argument: the “rules-based international order” has not been destroyed by its challengers. It is being liquidated by its author — sold off, asset by asset, for cash.




The freedom of the seas was the crown jewel of that order. It was the one rule America enforced with genuine consistency, because it was the rule from which American power flowed. The Royal Navy built the doctrine in the nineteenth century; the US Navy inherited it in the twentieth. Its moral force rested on a single proposition: the guardian takes nothing for itself. The seas were policed disinterestedly, and that disinterest was the legitimacy.




“Guardian” is an old word. In the waters I have worked in for thirty years, everyone understands what it means when an armed party offers you “safety and security” in exchange for a percentage of your cargo. It is the oldest business model on the sea. We did not used to call its practitioners guardians.




The Strait of Hormuz will remain open or it will close; the ceasefire will be rebuilt or it will collapse. But the doctrine — the idea that the world’s waterways belong to the community of nations and may not be farmed for revenue — died this week. Not because Iran closed the Strait.




Because America opened a toll booth.




The rules were never the order. Power was the order. The rules were its receipts.

Retired U.S. Army Major General Randy Manner says the Hormuz standoff exposes a stark reality. While Washington says the strait is open and Tehran says it’s closed, CENTCOM data reportedly shows traffic has fallen from around 140 ships per day before the war to about 140 per week.

On diplomacy, he argues the administration lacks a credible negotiating team and sees neither a military nor diplomatic solution.

His prediction: Trump eventually pays Iran billions and quietly accepts Iranian control over its side of the Strait of Hormuz.

President Donald Trump announced in Ankara, Turkey during a NATO submit that the United States will give Ukraine a license to manufacture Patriot air-defense interceptor missiles.

President Vladimir Putin of Russia and President Donald Trump of the United States have managed to maintain a constructive dialogue despite their differences: "They maintain a truly constructive dialogue despite the differences they might have."

Russian Putin calls for continued massive strikes on Ukraine’s military-industrial infrastructure

Russian President has called for continued massive strikes on Ukraine’s military-industrial infrastructure in response to the Ukrainian terrorists attacks against Russia.


“Massive group strikes on the infrastructure of Ukraine’s military-industrial complex must be continued,” Russian President Vladimir Putin said while visiting an auxiliary command post of the Joint Group of Forces.

Vladimir Putin stated that Russian forces have fully completed the "liberation" of the Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) and are continuing to destroy Ukrainian Armed Forces units in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), as well as in Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions.

According to a report by the Sputnik, Putin confirmed that Russian forces have liberated 133 towns and liberated, along with more than 3,000 square kilometers of territory in the Donbass and Novorossiya since the start of 2026.

Konstantinovka is one of most important logistics and defensive hubs in northern Donbass.


Together with Slavyansk and Kramatorsk, it forms a heavily fortified belt that supports Ukrainian operations across the region.

The American led NATO war against Russia in Ukraine have not been able to crush or for for Moscow to retreat from its special military operations in Ukraine.

Tehran is prepared to respond if necessary - Iran’s parliament speaker dismisses Trump threats

The Iranian parliament speaker who is also the head negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has dismisses the US threats, saying Tehran is prepared to respond if necessary.

The Tehran’s delegation walked out of the talks with the US in Switzerland in protest against threats made by US President Donald Trump, Iran’s state-affiliated Tasnim news agency reports, citing a source close to the Iranian negotiating team.

American President Donald Trump has threatened the Iranian officials in Switzerland that they won’t make it back to Iran if they close the Strait of Hormuz while Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu bombs Lebanon.

According to Fox News, Trump says he spoke with Iranian officials and told them, "You close the Strait of Hormuz and you won't have a country." He also told them, "You won't even make it back to your fucking country."

Despite this claim Iran has closed the Strait of Hormu adding that the ceasefire agreement must be respected by both the US and State of Israel.

Ghalibaf has said the US should be careful with its statements, warning that Iran’s armed forces are "ready to respond".

Tehran dismissed claims that an agreement has been reached with the United States on reducing its enriched uranium stockpile, insisting that nuclear issues are not part of the current round of talks and will not be discussed until Washington fulfills key obligations under the memorandum of understanding. 

Iran's Fars reported that Tehran insisted that implementation of commitments related to Lebanon, sanctions relief, maritime restrictions, and frozen Iranian assets must come first. 

Iranian officials also stated that IAEA Director Rafael Grossi has no role in the ongoing negotiations.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Sunday that $6 billion frozen assets in Qatar will be returned to Tehran as part of a preliminary deal between Iran and the US. “With the start of the negotiations from today, the $6 billion we have in Qatar will also be unfrozen and returned to our country,” Pezeshkian said in statements carried by the state broadcaster IRIB.

Meanwhile, Iranians are just coming out of American and Israeli war more stronger than ever. American allies refused to join the war against Tehran.

Iran's negotiating team led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has left Tehran for Switzerland ahead of technical talks with the United States, which Pakistan says will start on Sunday. US Vice-President JD Vance is also expected to join them in Switzerland, CNN reported citing a US official.

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is also part of the Iranian delegation, according to the reports by Tehran outlets.

The team also includes Central Bank Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati and Ali Bagheri Kani, the deputy for international affairs at the secretariat of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.

Kazem Gharibabadi, a deputy foreign minister, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei and Deputy Oil Minister Hamid Boord are also accompanying the delegation.

Following Israel's continuous bombing in Lebanon, Iran's Khatam al-Anbia Headquarters has announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to maritime traffic.

Tehran said the move was taken in response to what it called a U.S. violation of the war-ending memorandum of understanding, ongoing Israeli ceasefire violations, continued killings in southern Lebanon, and Israel's failure to withdraw from the area.

Lebanon health ministry confirmed over 4000 killed by Israeli attacks.

Iran described the closure as only the "first step" and warned that further measures could follow if the situation continues.

US to Investigate Disappearance of Nuclear Scientists

 

US President Donald Trump has said he held a meeting regarding unconfirmed reports about missing nuclear scientists.

Trump said on Thursday that he had just held a meeting to discuss reports claiming that a number of scientists working in the nuclear field had gone missing.

Speaking to reporters, Trump said: “I just came out of a meeting on this subject,” describing the matter as “very serious,” according to The Hill.

In recent days, questions have been raised in scientific circles over unconfirmed reports of the death or disappearance of several experts in space, defense, and nuclear energy fields, with no confirmed link between the cases.

According to media reports, including Newsweek and Daily Mail, a veteran scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Michael David Hicks, reportedly died in 2023, with no official cause of death disclosed. Newsweek noted that this case is part of a list of nine deaths or disappearances involving American experts in space, defense, and nuclear-related fields.

Trump added: “I hope it’s all random, but we’ll know within a week or two,” saying that “some of these were very important people.”

His comments came after White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt hinted on Wednesday at the possibility of opening an investigation into the reports.

She said during a press briefing: “I have not yet spoken to the relevant agencies about this matter, but I will certainly do so and we will get you an answer. If these reports are confirmed, it would be something worth investigating by this administration.”
