HIGH-LEVEL MEETING: Labour Party Deputy National Chair Madam Temidayo Nike Oriola Hosts Apagun, Sir Dele Abiola in Ogun State (PHOTOS)

 

Labour Party Deputy National Chairman (South West) ,Madam Temidayo Nike Oriola Job Played host to both the Oyo and Ogun State's Interim Chairmen of the Party Sir Dele Abiola and Apagun Olaolu Samuel in her residence in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State on Saturday 7th February, 2026.

This is a high level consultative meeting in the South West since the official recognitions of the Senator Nenadi Esther Usman Leadership of the party.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had last week recognized the Distinguished Senator Nenadi Esther Usman led National Working Committee of the Labour Party in line with an Abuja High Court as the sole Leadership of the labour party in Nigeria, putting an end to illegal reigns of the former National Chairman Julius Abure. Madam Oriola is the incumbent interim Deputy National Chairman from the South West geo political zone.

Oyo State Labour Party Hails INEC decision to comply with High Court ruling by Uploading Nenadi Esther Usman as the Authentic LP Chair

The Oyo State Chapter of the Opposition Labour Party (LP) in Nigeria has heartily congratulate the Senator Nenadi Esther Usman led National Working Committee of the party on her well-deserved recognition by the Nigeria's Electoral umpire Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Sir Dele Abiola led Oyo State Labour Party said INEC complying with the ruling of an Abuja High Court that enthroned Senator Nenadi Esther Usman as a welcome development. 

The party said both the court judgement and eventual INEC recognition is a clear affirmation of persistence on due process, internal democracy, and the supremacy of the party’s constitutional structures. 

"The legitimacy of the current National Leadership before Nigerians and the renewed confidence in the Labour Party as a credible and law-abiding political platform has just been officially confirmed.

According to a statement signed by the Oyo State Labour Party's Interim Publicity Secretary Comrade David Abisoye, the party members are confident that Nenadi led leadership will further reposition the Labour Party for unity, growth, and effective democratic participation across the country.

Oyo State Labour Party remains committed in its loyalty to the National Working Committee under the leadership of Distinguished Sen. Nenadi Usman and reaffirming our commitments to revamped the party structures at the grassroots.

OYSIEC Sets January 16, 2027 For Oyo LG Elections

The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) has announced Saturday, January 16, 2027, as the date for the state’s local government council elections, promising a credible, transparent, and peaceful electoral process.

The announcement followed the commission’s inaugural meeting with its management team at OYSIEC headquarters in Agodi, Ibadan, chaired by Dr. Babatunde Afees Adeniyi. The session provided a platform for the commission’s leadership to chart strategies for conducting an orderly and widely accepted grassroots election.

A statement issued after the meeting and shared with journalists on Thursday outlined that voting will take place in all polling units across the 33 local government councils from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the set date. Election campaigns are expected to conclude by midnight on Friday, January 15, 2027, while any supplementary or rerun elections will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2027.

The statement highlighted that the tenures of the current chairmen and councillors in the 33 local government councils will end on May 23, 2027, in accordance with the Oyo State Local Government Law.

It further cited Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended), which empowers OYSIEC to issue election notices at least 360 days before the scheduled polls. Accordingly, the commission has officially notified stakeholders of the forthcoming elections under the relevant provisions of the Electoral Act and OYSIEC Law.

Dr. Adeniyi urged political parties, candidates, and the public to support the commission in ensuring free, fair, and credible elections, stressing that cooperation from all quarters is essential for the success of the process. He reiterated OYSIEC’s commitment to strengthening democratic governance at the grassroots through a lawful and transparent electoral process.
