Elderly women protest Sowore’s continued detention in Abuja

A group of women protested, on Thursday, in front of the Federal High Court in Abuja to demand the immediate release of the #RevolutioNow convener, Omoyele Sowore and Olawale Bakare.

While protesting, the elderly women removed their blouses, revealing only their bras to drive home their demand.

According to the women, Sowore their ”son,” had not committed any crime, therefore, President Muhammadu Buhari should order his immediate and unconditional release from the detention of the Department of State Services.

Sowore has been in DSS detention since August 2019.

Following the commencement of his hearing today, the Federal High Court in Abuja has given the Department of State Service 24 hours to release online publisher, Omoyele Sowore, and his co-defendant, Olawale Bakare.

According to Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, the DSS has no justifiable reason to continue to hold them in custody after she signed the warrants for their release from custody.

The judge also awarded the cost of N100,000 against the prosecution to be paid to the defendants for foisting “frivolous adjournment” on the court.

Ojukwu adjourned the matter till Friday but she blamed the adjournment of trial on the prosecution which she said failed to comply with her order of November 6 directing them to serve some documents on the defence team led by Mr. Femi Falana.
