U.S. embassy, the Al-Balad Air Force Base in Baghdad Attacked

Iran’s foreign minister Javad Zarif said Saturday the end of US malign presence in West Asia (Mideast) has begun.

In a tweet Zarif said: "24 hrs ago, an arrogant clown— masquerading as a diplomat— claimed people were dancing in the cities of Iraq. Today, hundreds of thousands of our proud Iraqi brothers and sisters offered him their response across their soil. End of US malign presence in West Asia has begun."

The statement was immediately followed by the events in Baghdad, Iraqi capital where the United States embassy and the Al-Balad Air Force Base are been attacked.

Two rockets Saturday hit Iraq's Al-Balad air base, where US troops are stationed, while two mortars hit Baghdad's Green Zone, a high-security enclave housing the US embassy, security sources said.

Sirens immediately rang out at the American compound in Baghdad hosting both diplomats and troops, sources there told AFP.

Yesterday, Iranian FM said: "The US' act of international terrorism, targeting & assassinating General Soleimani—THE most effective force fighting Daesh (ISIS), Al Nusrah, Al Qaeda et al—is extremely dangerous & a foolish escalation.

The US bears responsibility for all consequences of its rogue adventurism.
