Urges Nigerians to buy Punch Newspaper
Former Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Activist and founder of SaharaReporters Omoyele Sowore has commended a popular Nigerian media outfit Punch Newspapers for its revolutionary reportage.
Sowore endorsed Punch Newspapers as the voice of the people. The Activist was seen reading Punch Newspaper Nigeria with some members of #RevolutionNow and advises followers to buy and read the only paper that have decided not to betray the masses which made FG and General Buhari not to place adverts on the News paper.
He hoped that at least one million Nigerians can purchase a copy of the paper each to appreciate PUNCH for all that it had done to promote rule of law and free speech in the country.
He said: "Today we decided to buy and read @mobilepunch newspaper and hope at least 1 million Nigerians can purchase a copy of the revolutionary daily paper. The Punch has become the newspaper of the people and we have a duty to help sustain their conscientious style of reporting. We did this because the Nigerian Presidency decided in its pettiness not to place an advert in PUNCH because of their uncompromising position on tyranny, free speech and civil rights.”
The News paper Punched at the face of Tyrants when on December 11th 2019, it announced that it would refer to Buhari’s government as a "regime" over its increasing dictatorial tendency and “disregard for the rules of law”, citing among other cases, the detention of Omoyele Sowore, convener of RevolutionNow Movement, despite two courts granting him bail.
Buhari led federal government fragrantly disobeyed court orders at will.
Sowore was later released on Christmas eve. He is being accused of insulting Major Gen. Buhari and planning to bring down his regime. His court trial resumes weeks from now in a case brought against him by the Buhari led Federal Government.
The Popular Newspaper also concludes to prefix Buhari’s name with – major-general – his rank as a military dictator between 1984 and 1985. An indication of military dictator in civilian garbs.
The Paper was therefore conspicuously missing among the major national dailies that got front page advertorial from the regime on Wednesday.
The advertorial contained the New Year message of Major Gen. Muhammadu Buhari to Nigerians. While the content splashed on the cover page of other major dailies, the Punch, which describes itself as the most widely read in Nigeria, had images of New Year celebrations across the world and other stories.
It’s widely believed that PUNCH was deliberately omitted by the presidency, therefore Sowore has urged Nigerians to continue patronizing and buying the Punch Newspaper.
