| Sowore, Dasuki |
The Release of Col Sambo yesterday was after 4 years of unlawful detention by the Nigerian state against many court orders in Nigeria and ECOWAS court.
Major Gen. Muhammadu Bhuari's regime is known for tyranny and illegality of fragrantly disobeying every court order at will in the phantom name of national security.
In an optimistic turn of events, the duo would not be spending this Christmas festivities in detention.
The report of their release followed an order of regime's attorney-general of the federation, Abubakar Malami that the Department of State Services (DSS) should promptly release Sowore, the publisher of Sahara Reporters and convener of the #RevolutionNow protest, as well as Dasuki, the former national security adviser (NSA) under the previous administration of Goodluck Jonathan.
The statement reads in part:
“…However, my Office has chosen to comply with the court orders while considering the pursuit of its rights of appeal and/or review of the order relating to the bail as granted or varied by the courts.
“In line with the provisions of Sections 150(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), and in compliance with the bail granted to Col. Sambo Dasuki (Rtd) (as recently varied by the Court of Appeal) and the bail granted to Omoyele Sowore, I have directed the State Security Services to comply with the order granting bail to the Defendants and effect their release.
“The two Defendants are enjoined to observe the terms of their bail and refrain from engaging in any act that is inimical to public peace and national security as well as their ongoing trial which will run its course in accordance with the laws of the land...”
Perhaps it won’t be out of place to also recall that another person of interest is still incarcerated, Ibrahim Zakzaky, the prominent Shi’a Muslim leader in Nigeria, whose followers have continually protested for his release.
The fact about Buhari Regime is that unless citizens called the government names the dictator never did the needful.
Nigerians must never stop speaking out against the anti-democratic leaders and bad advisers occupying the seat of government in Abuja if truly Good governance is needed.
A government that denied the citizens the right to peaceful protests and free expression, the leaders that disregard rules of law and imprison citizens at will deserved to be constantly put in checks most especially in such situations where the other organs of the government are either been bought over or cowed by the executive.
Citizens must not go back to sleep nut must continue to maintain watch over this dictatorial regime of Major Gen Buhari.
Illegality deserved no respect, Nigerians must know.
Illegality deserved no respect, Nigerians must know.
