Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian recently delivered a defiant message regarding his country’s nuclear program amid escalating tensions with Israel. In a televised speech from the western city of Ilam, Pezeshkian declared that Iran would not yield to what he described as “America’s coercion and bullying,” and by extension, Israel’s military pressure. -
This statement came in the wake of a dramatic escalation: Israel launched a series of airstrikes targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, including key enrichment sites like Natanz and Isfahan. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu framed the strikes as a preemptive move to cripple Iran’s ability to develop nuclear weapons.
In response, Pezeshkian emphasized Iran’s resilience, referencing the country’s endurance during the eight-year Iran-Iraq war. He insisted that Iran’s nuclear program remains peaceful and warned that any further aggression would be met with a “powerful and legitimate response”.
Iranian military leaders echoed this stance. IRGC Commander Hossein Salami warned that any Israeli attack would trigger a “history-making” retaliation, while Quds Force commander Esmail Qaani asserted that Iran’s military capabilities had significantly advanced since previous confrontations.
The situation remains volatile, with both sides trading strikes and rhetoric. Iran has also signaled that ongoing nuclear negotiations with the U.S. may be off the table, calling them “meaningless” in light of Israel’s actions.
