No fewer than 16 Senior Military Officers have been detained over an alleged coup plot to Overthrow President Bola Tinubu.
According to Sahara Reports in an exclusive report, at least sixteen senior military officers have been detained by the Armed Forces of Nigeria for allegedly planning a coup d’etat to overthrow Nigerian President.
However, the Nigerian Army in a press statement on Saturday said the detained officers under investigation were arrested and detained for professional misconduct been activities linked to the Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary but was never linked to an alleged attempted military coup, called the report a spurious one.
The statement signed by the Director Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau in Abuja, the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) categorically stated that the claims of any coup attempt are entirely false, malicious, and intended to cause unnecessary tension and distrust among the populace. The decision regarding the cancellation of 65th independence anniversary parade was to allow Mr President attend a strategic bilateral meeting outside the country and for members of the AFN to sustain the momentum on the fight against terrorism, insurgency and banditry.
Nigeria witness the first military coup d'etat in January 1966 where the first generation of the country's leaders where brutally assassinated. A coup d'état is an overt attempt by a military organisation or other government elites to unseat an incumbent person or leadership.
The present socio-economic, political and State of insecurity in the country is at alarming rates as the government policies and programs are basically anti masses. The Nigerian citizens are hoping for a democratic change of government by 2027 if the electoral umpire will be impartial with the electoral processes as majority are tired of the APC led pro Terrorists Regime.
However, the opposition political parties are in comatose with the agents of the ruling party APC destabilizing both Labour Party (LP) and People's Democratic Party (PDP). The hope for a peaceful and democratic change of government via a free, fair and credible elections are becoming slime.
Neighbouring countries in West Africa like Mali, Bokina Faso and Niger Republic are currently under military juntas.
Despite APC mis-governance and maladministration of the highest order,, support for any military intervention will be very minimal especially among the elites and those who either witness or are part of the June 12 1993 elections and struggles that claimed many lives before the the country returned to democracy in 1999.
The decades of military rules and unchecked corruption lead the country to this present Golgotha where the country is regarded as the global capital of poverty.
