Press statement: OGUN STATE LABOUR PARTY CLARIFIES STANCE ON MEMBERSHIP AND PARTY DISCIPLINE

The Ogun State Chapter of the Labour Party has observed with concern the continued discussions and individual actions regarding political affiliations following recent national developments.

While we respect the right of every individual to political association, it is imperative to state the official position of the Labour Party in Ogun State unequivocally, to guide our members and maintain order within our ranks.

1. No Official Directive to Join ADC: The Senator Nenadi Usman-led Interim National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Labour Party has not issued any instruction urging members to decamp to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The national leadership's previously stated position was one of blessings for Mr. Peter Obi's engagement, not a blanket directive for party members.

2. Individual Volition: Consequently, any member who chooses to associate with or decamp to the ADC does so purely on their own volition and personal decision, not under any official mandate from the Labour Party.

3. Decamped Members Should Exit Honourably: In line with standard political practice and to avoid confusion, any member who has decided to decamp to the ADC is hereby advised to honourably exit the Labour Party platform. Holding concurrent membership in two political parties is untenable and against the spirit of focused political engagement.

4. Strict Platform Discipline: This platform and all official channels of the Ogun State Labour Party are dedicated solely to the affairs, programmes, and communications of our great party. The posting of ADC promotional materials, information, or activities on these official platforms will not be tolerated. Any member found violating this will be removed from the platform to preserve its purpose and integrity.

5. Call for Calm and Trust in Leadership: We reiterate our call for all loyal members to remain calm and steadfast. The state and national leadership are diligently working to consolidate, reorganize, and strategize for the future. We are navigating this period with clarity and will keep members informed of official decisions and pathways forward.

The Ogun State Labour Party is focused on strengthening its internal structures, growing its membership base, and preparing to offer the people of Ogun State a vibrant, people-centred alternative. We urge our members to direct their energies towards this collective state-building effort.

Signed:

Kika Glasgow

State Publicity Secretary,

Labour Party, Ogun State.
