PRESS STATEMENT : ABURE FACTION’S PLOT TO DISRUPT STATE CONGRESSES FAILED; FRESH PLOT TO DISRUPT 28TH APRIL NATIONAL CONVENTION UNCOVERED — SOUTH WEST CHAIRMEN RAISE ALARM

Friday, 25th April 2026

ATTENTION: National Leadership, Labour Party | INEC | DSS | Nigeria Police Force | General Public.

We, the State Working Committee members of the Labour Party across the six South West states, wish to alert the National Leadership, INEC, security agencies, and the general public to a sinister plot by political contractors loyal to the Julius Abure faction to disrupt the activities of the Labour Party.

Our Findings:

1. Failed Disruption: The Abure faction attempted to disrupt the State Congresses held across the country today, Friday, 25th April 2026. Their plot failed due to the vigilance of party members and security agencies.

2. New Threat: we have credible intelligence that the same elements, many of whom earlier defected to the ADC, are now mobilizing to stage protests and cause chaos at the National Convention scheduled for Monday28th April 2026.

3. Bad Faith & Hypocrisy: these individuals abandoned the party but rushed back only after recent court rulings affirmed the Nenadi Esther Usman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha-led National Working Committee as the authentic leadership. On record, Julius Abure conducted his own congresses in December 2025 without involving us. Despite several reconciliation attempts, they rejected peace and now demand inclusion after the process is concluded.

Our Position:

1. The Ward, Local Government, and State Congresses in the South West were duly organized, conducted, and concluded. New executives have emerged to pilot the affairs of the party.

2. We call on the National Leadership not to allow these political contractors to derail the party. They were the architects of Abure’s travails and must not be allowed to distract us again.

3. We urge INEC, DSS, and the Nigeria Police to secure the venue of the 28th April National Convention and prevent impostors from undermining the party’s democratic process.

The task before us is enormous: grassroots outreach, mass mobilization of Nigerians into the Labour Party, and strategic planning to win elections. We refuse to be distracted by elements whose only trade is crisis.

The South West Labour Party is united, focused, and moving forward.

Forward Ever, Backward Never.

Signed:

For and on behalf of the State Working Committee Members
